Very nice fasj. 👍 I couldn't get the taller gearing to work for me. Using 210.....

I haven't run in a few days, but I might have to give it another go now that the sharks are circling.

Nice to see so many with good fast runs. Should be a fun finish! :)

210 for me as well. I had no luck with the 230+ gearing. Car position is everything this week it seems to me.

And braking. ;)

Yes! And early braking so you accelerate as you wizzz by the rumble strips on the inside ;)

I tried to set the gearbox at 240, and managed a T1 at 42.660, more than one second faster than my best saved lap.
The lap was IMO perfecty clean when I ran it, yet I wasn't that sure after having watched the replay and I was certain that it was dirty when I looked at the data logger. :grumpy:
Too many walls on these city courses.

I wasn't going to run the combo again this week but i just worked out how to get PS2 sounds coming through my surround sound home cinema thingy i got for x-mas. So, spurred on by the heightened sense of realism i managed this:

Auto with 210 gearing no aids
0'41.798

I might try the 230+ gearing people have had success with too.

0'43.317

I have an unexplainable blip in my logger, though. I've replayed the corner five times. I got a bit sideways going into it, but the problem is at the exit of the corner. My only idea is in counter-steering, the car decreased speed because of the momentum shift.

Seems like the perfect situation to try the method I discussed here. You should be able to clearly find out where the "blip" comes from.

Hope this helps, welcome aboard too 👍

I hate blips. I didn't know the word before I searched for it but I hated it only from the sound it makes when I read it :D

Speed drops can be due to :
  • releasing throttle
  • braking
  • shifting one gear up
  • hitting something

The first 3 options are legal. The 4th one and any other one I didn't mention (like shortcutting on the grass, drifting sideways on the sand...) are not legal and result in a disqualification.

...and sometimes the contact is not visible on the replay.

The log doesn't show any release or braking.

I don't usually shift out of corners.

I wasn't near the wall on that turn (it was the 150 degree right-hander going into the tighter left one in the middle of T1).

I think it was caused either by countersteer or (a long shot) the bumpy road.

If you want to avoid submitting a doubtful time, just PM rotbarsch1979 or MinorShunt or TheWizard, they're NTSC and they can check your replay and give you their opinion.
And since they are the ones who usually check NTSC replays when they are posted, if they're OK before submission they'll be OK after too :D

40.344

but it looked like i didnt gain the fullest of the lap... but yet it was the quickest out of my hour long session

might try some more

There goes the neighborhood. :D

Nice split. uber tough to do that clean. 👍

Can't catch my ghost anymore so I'm submitting. I'm fairly sure I've got hotboi covered though

Good luck to those still racing 👍

okay, time to have a 3 hour session, i'm yet to play this combo but will now!!!!!

i plan to use the ds2

i'll be back in a couple of hours :)

Well I have a dilemma...

My ps2 in dying, slowly but surely. I just did about 6 laps and my best sector was a 40.4, there is an EASY 0.5 in my lap for sure BUT when I go back to the menu I get an error load and cannot save the replay. This has been happening since Friday.

So I need to either get a new PS2 (yeah right), or phone a friend or something like that. If all fales I will just have to bomb out of this round... damn :banghead:

EDIT: Despite the lack of ability of being able to save the replay: 40.381

EDIT: 40.153

ahh, no good with ds2, best i got was 40.4 with a slight wall touch though, will have to try the next wrs, came too late on this one 👎 happy new year :dopey:

Here you go matie!

See here to sort your PS2 read errors

Also a few cotton buds and a can of zippo fluid, de-natured alcohol or meths(at a pinch) can be used to GENTLY clean the lens!

Neil

I added a link to that page in the FAQ thread, so that Neil you can in the future redirect people towards the FAQ where there will find all useful answers 👍

I dont think it is the lense because when I tilt the PS2 it sometimes works. That doesn't happen very often though.

This problem has occured before but as I said all I did was rock it a bit...

Thanks for the link BTW, I will add that to my Favs ;)

Submitted also, purely because i want to do some ring-running!

Neil

LB Updated, I put up drivers times eventhough they were considered 'dirty' just so you have an idea of where you are. But remember to submit a clean one in the end 💡

Kart,

Regarding not being able to save, try over-writing a file. I've found that if you load a replay onto a card and the sequence number of that throws off the file system (I'm guessing here) the PS2 gets confused. I've had this problem in the past and really stressed out due to not being able to save a hot lap. You could try another memcard as well.

Hope this helps,

-SHig

p.s. BLOODY HELL! Fast times man!

Despite the fact I haven’t really played GT4 since April, after seeing it on Top Gear, I thought I'll give this a go.

Anyway, on Sunday I played for a couple of hours and got a rather respectable time of 42.511 (no aids, auto gears, DS2).

I was going to play some more today, but my neck is killing me, so I'll send my time in now.

Great combo btw! 👍

The problem isn't the mem card. The problem is that I cannot get back to the menu...

I solved the problem by getting a new PS2 (silver, slim line 👍 ) anyway because this has been happening for a while so it was a matter of time before I needed a new one.

My first PS2 "lived" for 2 years and a half, and I had to buy a new (slim) one last year. I never tried to clean the lens or anything, I just installed the new one after I packed the old one back in its box, and put it in the cellar, next to my 2 Nintendos N64. It starts to look like a video game cemetery :D
