Was finally able to get back to this. Haven't been able to run it since earlier in the week. Pretty cool setup Zikwik came up with. 👍 I modified it slightly to be less understeery, but it's a damn fine setup he put up.
Already have 360 miles on the odo. Been a while since I ran that much for a WRS race, but this one is tons of fun! Well anyway, I got a lap I'm pretty happy with. Saw a few 51.6's and one 51.5, but doubt if I'll have another chance to run, so will probably submit this.

T1: 15.695
T2: 51.757

And now I see right above me.........51.245 Dan????? That's frickin' insane man!!!👍 :)

360km (225miles) on the clock and i finally get a breakthrough!! Past 3 laps were

16.040 ____ 16.060 ____ 16.045
52.417 ____ 52.470 ____ 52.404
x'xx.xxx ____ -.095 _____- .051

Countless other laps with in that .16 as well!! grr!

THEN finally

16.055 (yeah yeah, i dont know what you guys are doing to get sub 16's)
52.163 (Oh hello!! fastest ive seen)
-.335 (yay beat my goal, decently!!)

Seen a 15.7, so possible to get another .3 but realisitically unless i spend a crap load more time i aint gonna get much faster. Will probably submit this.

Very happy with my time for only 360km on the clock (2hrs? gameplay?) Can definetly get close to my limit sooner now, which is always a good thing.

Will also update the board.

Dan, your just too fast mate
Minorshunt, wonderful splits mate!! 👍 👍

Well done to all who are giving it their all on this combo, its pretty tricky to push 100% the whole lap and have a mistake free run!.

Well, I am almost ashamed to post my splits after all these 52's and 51's, but the hell with it. It's my first time with the DFP and I am sticking to this excuse at least for the next three weeks :D

Here are my fantabolous splits (clean lap, finally)

T1: 0'16.981
T2: 0'54.420

This was in 45 minutes, tonight. Yesterday I could not even break 56 seconds @ T2, so I call that quite an improvement.

Maybe I'll race some more tomorrow...

The Wizard.

👍 for persisting with the wheel big guy ... it's not easy when you know you could reach for the DS2 and shave 2 seconds off your time immediately. Stick with it and you'll be back on top in no time.

Hey "Fryz,"
Those aren't bad splits you're posting either. 👍

Everyone must be enjoying this week, I'm glad to see that flat-out delivered a brilliant combo.

I've really enjoyed working on suspensions this week. :dopey:
Those railroad tracks and rumble strips are constant enemies. :(
In fact, I find it faster to stay off the rumbles for most of this lap.

One thing I find strange is where people are having trouble with traction... For me it is at the left-hand turn after T2, it doesn't seem like other people have mentioned that spot much. Keeping traction there is hard for me if I'm not careful about my gearing and throttle input.

In any case, I submitted earlier tonight... Just wanted to get a time in for this week since flat-out gave us the chance to vote. 👍

Good luck all.
(btw, I can't wait to see the top times this week even though I know they will make me look really bad :ouch: ).

Thank you for your comments, Natalya 👍
Yes, you are right about the DS2. I am aware that I could easily trim some time, right now, since I am not that skilled with the wheel, yet.

But the way I see it, right now what matters to me is not really the final time per se, rather becoming experienced with the wheel.

I have been away from the WRS for a long time (unless you count the odd week here and there), because I could not find most of the combos fun, anymore, with the DS2. Now I am actually enjoying this one - if we don't count the frustration factor coming from those damn walls :D - and that's saying a lot. If I can enjoy this race just thanks to the wheel, I think I will be able to enjoy even the ones to come, and maybe I will be able to race more often.

I really hope it is as you - and a lot of other people - say and that I will be up to my standards eventually, if not a little better (that wouldn't hurt, now, would it ;))

Anyway...

Later.

EDIT: I actually just realized that I should change the wheel in my avatar to an actual DFP 💡 I guess I'll do that, when I find some spare time :D

The Wizard.

WOW!!! I am by no means an extremely smooth driver with the DS2, and it is showing BIG time now that I'm messing around with the DFP. After my first half an hour driving with only about 4/5 throttle(wasn't going full throttle for some reason), I could tell that I'd be fast because of the speeds I was holding through the corners and such. But WOW! I reset the game, pushed the pedals all the way through their motions kind of aggressively by hand, and it's working. And WOW, I've *only* seen 16.6xx at T1, and 53.6xx at T2, but WOW! My fastest lap, dirty, has been almost right on top of my previous fastest lap from BEFORE last night's session. So, I'm just over .6 off my DS2 fastest time, dirty, with the DFP! I'm shocked... I don't know why I'm so fast with it off the bat... Maybe from playing all the racing sim games I could in the arcades when I was younger? I dunno, but wow, this is freaking awesome. I don't know what this means for me, we're having a LAN party coming up soon, I wonder if I'll be using the wheel. Woah woah woah. What the heck.

Sorry, I think I'm going to go try and go faster, clean... 👍 👍 👍 :BIG SMILE!:

Well just being listed last night I have yet to hit the track but will have a good stab tonight. I was hoping that my qual would have been in the div2 but it was not to be, so my guess is i'll prob get whipped by most of you.

Although now I feel I could have pushed it a little more. Still haven't got my skill level as high using the DFP as compared with my DS2. But am improving slowly. Thing that annoys me about it though is that it's much harder to correct yourself with the wheel. Mainly cos the when the wheel jerks you gotta fight to stablize the car. No such prob with the DS2, just a subtle vibration that is far less distracting.

I notice a few of you trying to conquer the wheel too. I know the pain, already finished the game a while back with the DS2 and got all gold in the licenses but now with the wheel a chunk of silver and bronze. But tis fun all the same.

Anyhoo enough crapping on. I hope to do well first time out. Not my fav track but the cars sweet.

Will post my sectors tonight. (If their worthy of posting.)

Damnit. I've been going at it hardcore. Changed my diff settings and raised the ride height another 5 in front and back because I saw my lap from last night scraping a good bit... So yeah, with my increase in confidence in myself with the wheel, I turned off the ASM and TCS completely, and was enjoying it... Then, maybe after a half an hour of no clean laps, I decided to turn the stuff back on. And in comes Pat... Kicks me off after doing a lap that had one little dirty icky part, following my fastest ever T1 of 15.9xx(went deep on braking and went wide on following left turn, so it wasn't a good, fast T1...), but continued to match my fastest lap, and pass it here and there, and if only I had more time.... But Patty's gotta watch some movies before bed. ARGH!

Insane. Loving it. And I thought I was just about done. :) 👍 Amazing stuff.

Man I am so frustrated with having one good lap then a few crappy ones before another good one comes along.

Nice times Kolyana, especially t2.
Well after a couple hours here's my progression.

T1 - 17.397
T2 - 56.334
T3 - xxx.xxx

T1 - 16.945
T2 - 55.515
T3 - -1.748

T1 - 16.857
T2 - 55.039
T3 - -0.106

Still yet to pull together a perfect lap, had a few where T1 & T2 were better on separate occasions.

Oh and btw Flat-out stated at the start that the car should reach 726hp but with all the trimmings mine only comes to 691. Have I done something wrong?

Last night after running half an hour without TCS I decided I wasn't making any progress, but with TCS on the car was too understeery. So I decided to get some more help from the driving aids. I used 6 on understeer, 1 on oversteer and two on TCS. That's with Zikwik's settings.

I improved my lap quite a bit with this setting, and I reckon I can only improve my new fastest lap by .3XX now. In fact I did, but I was stupid enough to touch the wall at the most dumb place on the track to do it - the inside wall of the back straight bend. :dunce:

Anyway, I didn't take notes of my split times but I'll post them whenever I can.

MisterWeary
Smells like an oil change to me

Hadn't thought of that. Maybe. I'll see if it makes a difference. I wouldn't have thought that would make such a significant gain on the numbers though.

Anyway thanks for the tip.

MisterWeary
$10 says I'm right :sly:

hehehe, he is right. I've seen cars gain 25hp with one $50 oil change and this is one of them :) It'll bring your times RIGHT down.

Talking of which, Brad has been driving my car so much this week, I've lost 1hp permanently because of the near 1000 miles on the clock! (oil changes and chassis refreshers don't bring that puppy back).

That's a lot of miles.

I haven't put over 500 miles on a WRS ride since way back in the day.
This week I've probably only done about 100 miles. :ashamed:

Luckily this car is one of the "easier to win" prize cars... Just 3 races that are about 3 or 4 laps each. 👍
German races A, right?
I used an Audi A3 to win those races and by only adjusting the suspension (and a few other things) I managed to pull something like 140 a-spec points on each of the races. 👍

Regarding this particular race though... :scared:
The bumps kept me on my toes for every second of this race. The M3 did a good job of dealing with the course but even so, the course was hellish on the car. All those bumps really made it hard to keep traction in the right spots.

How does the TCS work with the bumps?
Are you all dropping RPMs on the bumps or is the TCS doing a good job about keeping RPMs relatively high?
(I ran with tcs off)

*personally* TCS handls the bumps well ... I can stay with the accelerator down and not have to worry about wheelspin on hitting the rumblestrip; no feathering, no loss of speed. The only place I've seen it *not* help was the small 'jump' on the long back straight. With TCS off here you go faster through this jump-and-kink, while with TCS to 1 there is a slight loss of speed. However, on the rest of the track and all of the rumbles, TCS 1 eats them alive.

As for my mileage ... I've put more miles on this car than I have with most (with perhaps the exception of the Bentley 8 speed *cough*), but Brad always beats me hands down ... the man is an animal when he gets a bee under his bonnet. I'll put 60% of these miles down to him, easily.

Sorry but I don't know who brad is.
I assume brad is another WRS'er that you know in real life (and not just on the boards)?

I bet there are tons out there who feel the same as I do when I say...
I wish I had someone to race with in real life! :(
(not just on the boards)

That would give me the chance to actually race a 2 player battle for once, which is something I still have not done on GT4.
Actually, I rarely did that in GT3... I just don't have any friends who play GT. :(
(friends other than the good people here at the gtp  )

Regarding TCS...
That (what kolyana said) sounds exactly like what I would expect. 👍
Makes me wonder,
If I wasn't so picky, would I have submitted a better time? :ouch:
No big deal though. :sly:
Unlike some people (implying no one specific), I can actually handle doing poorly in the results. :P

In fact, I don't think I've had a "good" finish in the results since week 29 (I think) when we did the Aston Martin on the Ring.

Like I said though, it's no big deal...
I race here to have fun, winning is a secondary priority. :D

Pitt, Brad Pitt. :P

Oh, I didn't know it was this short, otherwise I would race it instead of downloading a 100% save. :D

i´m a very miserable and sad WRS racer.:( :( :(

maybe picked the worst week to try to step up and win...

latest (and probably last) splits are:

15´600
51´643
finish - 👎

but i KNOW that i didn´t beat your time dan, i saw your posts and the second barriers you said you broke, and i know i will finish bad. probably zikwik and steve will also finish higher, so after a hard effort i might end up 5th or worst.

boo for me:grumpy: (yes i´m am a fierce competitor, so i HATE to lose)

i might leave for a new job next week that will cut 80% of my PS2 time, so, very little WRS for me... that´s why i fought so hard this week. well, maybe in the next 40 weeks i choose a better and less alien crowded week to go for it:tup:

anyway, moving for the 4th time in the last month:yuck: so i doubt i can play this again...

@ holl - don´t need to record a 50´9 split to make me feel worse... take it easy man!

Well "Brad" is my b/f and he plays GT4 once in a while, and when he does I can't get near the damned thing.

I also live near Jump_Ace, KLR and Tuff240 (all Portland lads) and we go up to BobKart's every 3 months for a LAN fest (http://forums.gttimes.com/viewtopic.php?p=178196#178196). So I guess I'm pretty spoiled in this regard :(

I used to live in Lake Charles, LA ...

I didn't know you lived around all those other racers or in LA at one time.
Lucky girl to have all those people to play GT with (as well as to have a LAN party with).
(especially in the setup bobkart has)

If I lived in that area (and could actually be invited  ), I would definately come out just to get stomped in real life and not on the Net. :P

I'm sure you know I live in LA right now.
(from Virginia though... If I had grown up in LA I think there would be many more errors in my grammar ;) ).
(no offense meant if you grew up in Lake Charles)

Anyway, sorry to go so far off subject from the race. :ouch:
I'll let you all get back to the racing now. :D

Good luck in the results everyone. 👍

I feel you, Kent. Here in the Engineering Department nobody that I know plays GT4 (or any GT games, for that matter), and since I am in a foreign country and in a city in which I didn't grow up, I don't know anybody besides (some of) the people that are in my major(s).

I really wish I had somebody real (notice the Italics - I am not meaning the people here in GTPlanet are not real) to compete against. That would be super cool.

Anyway, I am the same way about the results, too. If I get a good place, then good, else, no big deal. I race online because it's more fun than actually playing the game. But I don't really race for the points.

Well, I have some assignments to take care of, now, so I better leave.

Later.

I used to have real people to compete against, but that was long ago. Since I joined the WRS, they can provide no competition anymore : they're just clever AI who can quickly move out of my way when I'm passing them. :D

Flat-Out,

What's horrible about the group I used to be able to play with (long before I got on the gtp or had internet), was that they couldn't keep up with me before I joined the GTP and the WRS. :P

I actually remember a quote of my good friend andy.
"I'm not bad but I can't do an entire race without crashing... One crash and Kent will beat you, you just can't mess up." (when speaking to another friend who was challenging me to a race)

Takes me back.
Of course, I remember the same group of fellas always ruining my endurance races from before the days of "B-Spec." :banghead:
Back with GT1,2,3 it was you and only you doing the endurance races (no bob to help).
So naturally I would switch off with my buddies to get the race completed (since I wouldn't risk pausing a ps1 for long).
It always ended up being a close race because I would build up a great lead then lose it when my friends took over. :(
Luckily they weren't "that bad" after some practice and inturn, they helped me beat GT1 by just renting it. 👍
GT2 was a purchase of course. :D

Anyway, sorry for the off-topic memories. :ouch:
later ;)

Btw,
Kolyana,
I used to think it was something about American women when it came to GT (since I thought none of them would play).
That's thanks to "Lotus350 and Exelero" (sp?).
I guess you've stumped me now that I've met an american girl who plays GT. I suppose they had to be out there... I just haven't met any (or dated any  ).

Would have made things a lot easier if the girls I've dated had played GT (or the girls I will date in the future).
I'm sure there's one out there somewhere.

(reminds me to give respect to Mr. P / Ron and Lotus350 / Kelly... Married with kids and still playing GT together)

Regarding use of TCS and this week's race...

I would've sworn that TCS was a dead necessity at Opera, however Veil managed to tame the beast. Hat's off to him.

This week? I tried most of the week to run without, but I quickly dropped more than a half a second once I turned it on. I think you gain so much through the tracks and through the left leading down the stairs that this more than negates the better power through the straights. I hope Curtis and Veil and any other EBE No TCS drivers take time to try this week so I can rest in the knowlege that TCS, in the right hands, is ALWAYS slower.

Probably not the case, like ABS and TCS in RL racing, but one can dream, right? :)

I'm done this week. Bring on next!

-SHig

Lol, Kolyana's from England... :sly: I'm going to sit back down at the wheel, try and put down a new fastest lap and clean now... So far I've still been .6 off(twice), and dirty.

PS. About the traction, I don't know what gearing you guys are using, but with it at Auto 9, and my LSD setting, I can get around the track as needed without the TCS on, and just as fast, if not faster... It's just that it's a bit more complicated... And, I've got enough complication with the transfer to the wheel as it is... But, with my LSD settings(6/15/15) and the gearing at auto 9, I thought it was doable(never drop into second gear). I could floor it around the last turn without breaking out, and on the turn after T2, you can usually just get it to spin the wheels a little bit, so it's actually a good bit faster than the TCS through there. I really want to get a clean lap more easily though, so I'm going to use the TCS and ASM Under 1 settings...

She's from England. :ouch: :dunce:

Just put everything back to the way it was I suppose. :D
I guess American women don't get into GT as much.

Of course, I'm being foolish about it... There's no big difference between UK girls and US girls. I just haven't met any US girls who play GT in real life, that's all.
Come to think of it, I haven't met any UK girls in real life. :ouch:

On topic...
TCS really isn't that hard to get away from with most cars in the game.
Only a handful really need it and usually that is dependant on the course you are driving.
I don't use TCS much at all anymore, that can be a problem though. Last week I coudn't even come close to the times being posted and half of it was the wheelspin (I would like to think the other half was the stock settings being used). :sly:

This week didn't seem like it needed TCS.
In fact, I felt like the lack of tcs helped me in the final corner for most of my laps. 👍
