This week is special because it's the 3rd anniversary of the WRS (race #1 was posted by boombexus on Feb. 18th 2003), and we will run a special combo for that occasion. Special because the track is a fantastic one, and special too because more than 720 cars are allowed this week.

wow, interesting selection of cars we have!

now which one shall i choose first!

wow, something fast!

and gtmode!

now i have to get my PS2 back and start learning le sarthe...

and veil, c´mon, race this week, don´t be depressed

lots of cars to choose from...

We had last year a similar race for the 2nd Anniversary, on Complex String (GT3). It was a good opportunity for many fans to use their favourite car (the Mini Cooper 1.3i for instance was widely used although it had no chance to compete against the F1).

This week is again a good opportunity and I'd find very disappointing to see only discussion about LM race cars in this thread.
So I'm ready to accept several submissions per driver (but only the fastest one will be taken into account on the leaderboard), as long as they are in different categories. I didn't want to define categories in post #1, I'd rather see how the thread is going on, and define categories later based on what you want to drive. There's no need to create an FF category is nobody drives FF cars, but it'd be worth creating a WRC category if many racers use WRC rally cars for instance.

Finally, I'm ready to extend the deadline by another week if you think it's a good idea and you'd like to have more time to use more cars.

I've tried a few cars and came out with one I really like so far. Here are my mediocre beginning splits with the '91 Le Mans winner in stock trim. ;)

T1 - 0'30.560
T2 - 1'04.529
T3 - 1'31.283
T4 - 1'53.526
T5 - 2'20.675
T6 - 2'49.934

Could it maybe be laid out in categories instead of divisins this week? 1-200 201-400 401-600 & 601-850 hp? ;)

Well had a quick stab at it with the ds2 , but i was just testing out a few cars and the frech ps2 pescarlo looke pretty fast at 846hp with oil change, so maybe that is the fastest car available, the audi r8 maybe better as it has higher RPM and is 836hp oil changed. i must say it will be frsutating trying to be fast while still keeping 2 tires on track.

will give a number of cars a try and post my quickest sector times in this post: fastest times overall will be in Bold

1.) Pescarolo Judd C60 Race Car (GT4 Livery) - 3 Laps - 846hp

T1: 27.996
T2: 59.847
T3: 1'25.587
T4: 1'47.177
T5: 2'14.130
T6: 2'42.937

2.) VW W12 Nardo Concept '01 - 6 Laps - 812hp

T1: 30.501
T2: 1'05.523
T3: 1'32.522
T4: 1'55.099
T5: 2'23.744
T6: 2'53.611

3.) BMW V12 LMR Race Car '99 - 10 laps - 839hp

T1: 27.635
T2: 59.237
T3: 1'24.778
T4: 1'46.212
T5: 2'12.716
T6: 2'40.913

Hi guys and gals

It has to be said that this race is gonna be the only reason for me to get my poorly-sick ass out of bed at the minute. (got the Flu):ill:

I have a suggestion!

How about splitting the cars into 3 Era's?

1800's-1969

1970-1989

1990-2003

That way those of us with the urge to race a classic, get to do so against other classics.

Also a two week deadline would be fantastic, as it would

a: let us learn the track properly, in multiple cars (let's face it, each different car will require us to race the track differently)
b: let us use multiple cars from different era's, and try something that would never usually be used
and
c: As it's in GT-mode it would give us the time to tune each car we try, without forcing us to do a half-assed job because we don't have the time.

Just an idea, but what do you all think, especially you Cyril?

Neil

I'm taking bets on who's gonna (seriously) try this challenge with the RUF Yellowbird!!!

There are a million ways to distinguish the categories, but I think these 3 are the biggest:

Era
HP (actually Power/Weight ratio might be better)
Racing car or Street car

You could do two grids, racing and street cars. Each with Era (as suggested by ballstothewall) along the X-axis, and P/W ratios (something like what TimBrad suggested) running down the Y-axis.

That might be too much (about 24 categories), but it would cover what I think are the 3 major factors that would decide a car's performance. And it would give everyone a chance to pick out a category they think they'll be particularly good in, as well as give those who are way too fast for their own good (hol...:sly:) a challenge in trying to get top times in all 24 categories.

AWESOME! I'd definitely love for this to be a multiple week race, as I've not much time these days to race... And, because I'd LOVE to have multiple submissions in different cars! And, that idea of using the RUF YB(nevermind, it still sucks at braking, no fun) around this track isn't so bad... 👍 Well, I haven't tried it yet, but I want to, lol. I also want to try out the R8, or maybe the Sauber because I haven't driven it yet.(if it fits the rules anyway) Or maybe a superfast road car, like that Nardo... Haven't driven that yet, and I want to... And then a slower car too, hmmm.

I like the three eras thing, that'd be awesome. I could work that into what I want to drive... :-D 👍 👍

Hmmm...GT Mode *AGAIN* eh? May give it a go here. Sarthe is one of my fav tracks :)

Jerome

I'mma be late for work, thanks Cyril! Jeez.

Lol, Pat's Nardo had too much HP, so I hopped into the Volvo 245GLT:
T3 was 2'11.xxx
T5: 3'25.961
T6: 4'07.822

First lap out, with a car that was un-tuned. Modified, yes, but definitely not tuned to how I'd have liked it. And it was the first lap, lol. Maybe I'll get Pat to race this week though! I betcha I will... Sure hope so anyway.

But yeah, I think we need to limit the T times that we use, so the leaderboard people don't have to keep up with it all. Or maybe, no leaderboard this week because we'll be using multiple cars? Anywho, freaking awesome. Thanks!

Definitely 2 weeks for this race Cyril. 👍 There's too much of a smorgasbord to sample properly in one week.

I'm thinking of some vintage can-am with a certain Toyota 7 maybe? A couple of Chapparals? The old GT40? 👍

May? Pfft, you freaking better. And you should use your R8 cause you love it so much. Go get first overall, start now!

AHHH! WORK! PEACE! :grumpy:

just did a few laps with the ps2 car and i reckon its the faster available car to choose, the splits i didnt take down but they were something like

26.4xx
57.3xx
1'23.7xx ect ect ect

the setup i used the default suspension, and just pushed the gears to the max, and chucked off the lsd, and pulled back the aids, and tinkered with the front brake balance, and adjusted the tires to R55, and left the downforce to default setting.

personally, i would have preferred to race this track in arcade mode, and allowing to cut the red section also, i much prefer arcade mode, as u can just hop straight in the car and drive, and u dont have to worry about oil changes, and the stupid settings also

29.243
1:02.044
1:28.499
1:50.022
2:17.262
2:44.068

There's my very first lap and to say the least I had WAYYYY too much wheelspin during the first chicane, but everything else was okay for my first lap. Using a 834HP Audi R8 Race Car (one of my fav's 👍) Settings I'm pretty happy with:

Tranny: Didn't even touch
Brakes: 5/5
Aids: 0/0/0
LSD: 5/5/10
Downforce: 63/88
Spring Rate: 14.2/14.0
Ride Height: 80/86
Shock Bound: 6/7
Shock Rebound: 6/7
Camber Angle: 2.5/1.4
Toe Angle:0/0
Stabilizers: 5/5

Now I"m off to Jury Duty for the day....:indiff: O well my first time in it, hopefully it will be fun eh? lol
Oh and I couldn't agree with Dan about it being in arcade mode....we've done TOO much sim mode lately IMO...but that is life.

VERY COOL RACE! Can't wait to try it. I really would love to see this race go two weeks, but I'm willing to bet that the frontrunner car will probably be figured out relatively quickly, but who knows?

Chapparal? GT-ONE? Nissan R92? Minolta? I guess it really comes down to if the car can mod into the slot well or not. So much candy...

You know, when i read this week, stock yellowbird came to mind...just for the heck, after last week & doing some runs on infeon with it, i'm falling in love with that crazy *****!

i dont suppose anyone out there knows how to get my favourite car to 850bhp???

my favourite car is a honda beat btw!

gonna see if i can find a classic thats up to speed cos i get fed up of the usual rubbish handling, flat looking, no nonsense cars!

:dopey: Oh La SArthe :dopey: hhmm, with some testing i had done some weeks ago, will have to go with the Nissan R89 (the one with the side skirts over the rear wheels) This thing is alot faster than it looks and it handles great though not sure of the horse power rating (at work)

I'm afraid there's no way to have the R89 under the 850hp barrier. :(

Maybe street car and race car categories? Nah, street cars will have racing tires so what would be the point in that.

Personally, I'm headed to check on my Nardo, Saleen, Zonda, and one other "special" car that needs some attention. 👍

Those are going to be my cars for this week. :sly:

I may also give the "Mini Cup Car" a run. ;)

In any case, this is an excellent combo and setup Cyril.
Also, thanks for bringing up the big dates from the past... Boom's first race was a classic (arcade Castrol Supra @ Trial Mtn), Boom's one-year mark race was also a classic (arcade 787b @ Midfield), and even though it might not be as specific as those, I would like to think of my week 100 race as a classic as well (I used the R-tune @ over 400hp as well as the Castrol Supra @ 970hp).

btw, week 100 was the "no restrictions" race and week 104 was Either of The Supras @ Grand Valley. 👍
(week 99- the 100k budget race, and week 100- "no restrictions" were both more fun than the week 104 race if you ask me ;) ) (and I can say that too since I was the one to moderate them ;) ).

Brings back some great memories and makes me look forward to the great memories that are being built up in this new era of the WRS that we call "GT4."

I'm still happy about that Castrol Supra @ Complex String Lap (although I think it may have been complex string reverse that we raced on   ).

Wow! Nice idea having a more or less free choice of any car in the game. I reckon this format should attract a record number of participants. As for making it a 2 weeker, i think it's a good idea. Anyway I've chosen to use an FF car this week.

Dodge SRT4 '03 - FF - 511hp - Div2 - DFP

T1 - 0'36.726
T2 - 1'16.787
T3 - 1'49.031
T4 - 2'15.605
T5 - 2'48.963
T6 - 3'24.009

OK, this is brilliant. I can try something I've been wanting to all along. I think I've found the best handling car in the game. What does everyone else think of the Honda S2000 LM Race Car?

Max it out, and it's got 580 hp, and has the most amazing response to steering. I think that's gonna be my main vehicle for this week.

I think my biggest problem with this week's race is that the paved areas behind the rumble strips are not part of the track. I love La Sarthe, and race there alot, but I'm always putting the car behind the rumble strips. Going to have to get used to that...

Still sorting out which cars to use,

Gonna be the 4 times winner (1966-1969) the Ford GT40 for the Classic Era
Already got a T2 1,11.2xx with it.

Not yet decided what to use for the 'Golden' Era (1970-89)

or

for the 'Modern' Era ('90-'03)

Too busy watchin SG1/Battlestar and over there for the next 3 hrs to pick yet.

EDIT
Splits done in one lap between programmes

Ford GT40 '69 @ 695 Hp
T1 33.795
T2 1'10.510
T3 1'39.197
T4 2'04.166
T5 2'35.174
T6 3'08.044

Sounds great, and a fun way to celebrate the anniversary! 👍

For my first week in the WRS I think I'll race a 'fun' car rather than going outright for the fastest time this week - I'll have a look and see what's down the back of my garage. There might be an older, low slung machine down the back under a cover if I remember correctly - I hope she fires up alright...

Finding the car I want to run with may be the most difficult part. I'm thinking European to stick with the Le Sarthe theme, but may be swayed into something from the far east? But, American manufacturers have also had success through the Corvette and others...

I'll let you know what car I settle on in a couple of days, then it's just a matter of extracting the best from her. Better get to it then!

Great race 👍
I think the first car I might try would be the Toyota Denso Supra, just for old memories sake: Week 100 was my first in the WRS and the Denso was my car of choice, there :D

So many cars to choose from and to try - I think the two week extension is probably a good idea 👍

Anyway, I am going to try this one right now.

EDIT: Of course, I am going to try out some Italian cars, too :D

The Wizard.
