Back to some GT Mode, with some AI on the track. But since we can use racing soft tyres, AI should be a lesser problem than the bumpy curves before the tunnel.

First post! 3 laps! I'm loving this Cyril, El Capitan is my favourite track in GT4. Should have fun with this one!

You have certainly picked a race with the most aggressive and stupid AI I have ever encountered here Cyril :ouch:

It has taken me about 10 attempts to just make it to the second corner without the RUF RGT either ramming into the rear of my car, or steaming up alongside and then just plain deciding to try to occupy the same piece of tarmac as me and pushing me off the track!

If I start the race and go to the LEFT of the Celica (which is in front of me), and stick to the left of the track, the RUF pulls alongside and pushes me off the track (CONTACT & FAIL:ouch: ).
If I start and try to pass the Celica on the right, the RUF then tries to squeeze me into the celica (DOUBLE CONTACT & FAIL:ouch: :ouch: ).
If I start and pass the Celica on the left and then move across the track to the right (so as to let the RUF have the racing line in the kink), the RUF runs up behind and either drives into the back of me, or pulls slightly alongside and takes a swipe at the rear-quarter before taking the racing line to the kink (CONTACT & FAIL:ouch: )

And as to the Opera performance S2000! What a PITA that one is!

Nice car, nice track! Terrible AI!

This is going to be a frustrating week.

I know we had problems regarding relaxing of contact rules in the past (La Sarthe comes to mind).
But if an AI decides to drive into you when you are doing nothing wrong, every start or at some point in the lap..........

It's not your fault is it?

Neil

Do you run on racing soft tyres ?
I'm staying on the left part of the track, blocking the 6th car so that it stays behind and doesn't rub the right side of my car, and then I overtake all 4 cars in the long right-hander. Only the pole Ruf remains, which is pretty easy to pass before T1.

Here is a view from the front : W71_start.mov (9 Mb, Quicktime vid). You'll probably still have a fair amount of dirty starts, but I find it pretty easy to get clean ones with this method.

Edit :
New vid of the start, with a gear ratio at 7 and a different line-up (no Ruf's). W71_start-2.mov (8 Mb)

Ah!

You must have a different line-up than I do, Cyril.

I have
Opera Performance S2000 '04
Spoon S2000 '00
RUF CTR "Yellow Bird" '87
Trial Celica SS-!!(ZZT231) '03
RUF RGT '00

Maybe an exit out and back in will get me a better field.

Oh and yes, on softs & 296Hp
Neil

Sounds like alot fun the only problem I have is the AI. O well now only if my arm can heal before the deadline. Still don't know what is wrong with it but i have a doctors appointment today. Hopfuly its nothing serious I will post when I get back.

I have roughtly the same layout as you have Neil, except that I have the RGT instead of the Yellow Bird, and the Falken RX-7 instead of the Celica.
And I'm at 299 hp.

I'll try this out tonight, since my sister is out at a friend's house.

Let me just understand a thing I never understood about GT-mode racing: All parts, that don't upgrade power, are allowed, and parts that do are only allowed at long as the total power doesn't reach above 300HP? By which system? PS? BHP? And what is the meter for the power, the tuning section or the garage?

EDIT: Also, one lucky thing I took the Nardo to El Capitan reverse just a couple of days ago... Awsome track, both directions. And this car is a sweetie, too. Nice one there, Cyril.

EDIT 2: Guys, help me pick a color. Lime Green works well, but it's too common. Nurb' Blue seems nice, but I already have 2 S2000s with that color...

I have an Amuse which is on 300 BHP and the replay shows 295 BHP.

Since I didn't use the oil change and some may use other tuning parts ,is it possible that other racers have different BHP numbers on their replay?

Nice video Cyril. I'll be taking that line probably. Dunno when I'll get an attempt though, I'm busy until at least Friday morning! :scared:
Shouldn't WRS be at the top of a persons life, rather than after other, less important things?

Why of course. Because what are school, work, family, love-life, and other games, when such an excellent combo is running?

First notes:
AI is no trouble... Only the RUF BTR, which starts second (after a red Skyline) but gains 1st place at the start. 5th place is another S2000, which occupies the line I'd take at the start - however, after a couple of seconds, I'm able to take it's place. The whole field is overtaken at the right-hand sweeper, and the only the RUF remains (close). Overtaken normally at a tight left-hander - sometimes causes problems since it runs into your line. Basically, what I had to do is invent another line that, while not the tightest and fastest, will give me superior speeds. El Capitan is perfect for that...
Field (by starting-order):
NISMO Skyline GT-R R-Tune (R34)
RUF BTR
Opera Performance S2000
Mine's Lancer Evolution VI (6)
Spoon S2000
Me, a dark-blue Amuse R1.
Nets me a nice and cozy 109 A-spec'ers.

Track: Perfect. The uphill before the tunnel can only be described as extreme fun. Braking isn't that neccessare, and when not braking, a fun flight into to tunnel will happen. The rest of the track is excellent.
Car: Even at almost stock state, it's a smothie on this track. Good braking (using a 5/3 balance), sticks to the road (sadly, no downforce), and has one hell of a turn-in - precise and quick. Mine has 296HP (28x on the replay), since I oil-changed, port-polished and added a racing exhaust. I'll buy another one without the change, to get a clean 299/300. Easy to win, but hard to overtake the RUF. Other than that, it's easy to get consistent laps.

Tuning:
Height: 75/75
Springs (F/R): 11.5/12.0
Camber: 2.0/0.5
Toe: 0/0
Bound: 4/4
Rebound: 6/6
ARB: 4/4
Brake-balance: 5/3
All non-power parts, Oil Change, Wash, Stg. 3 Weight Reduction, Roll-Cage, Chip, Port Polish, Racing exhaust.
Zero Aids
Still haven't figured out the right gearing.

Hope this helps. Setting are pretty much my style - grip, with lots of rumble-strips (when I get to them). Hard braking on slight elevation-changes might induce oversteer, which I find good.

And last thing: I received a mail today from Play-Asia.com, that my order is shipped (order being a MaxDrive).

Came out of the race, and re-entered!

Now have:
Amuse S2000 Street Version '04
HPA Motorsports Stage II R32 '04(phew!)
RUF CTF "Yellow Bird" '87
Mazda BP Falken RX-7(D1GP) '03
NISMO Skyline GT-R R-tune (R34) '99(deep breath)

Nicer line-up!

If I get the start gear-changes absolutely right.........
I get infront of the Nismo and slipstream right the way down the SF straight,
get round the outside of the Mazda and the HPA in the first corner,
the outside of the RUF at the exit of the next,
and the inside of the Amuse at the apex, of the first, of the left-left combo!

Splits!

L1
T1 44.522
T2 1'22.858
L2
T1 35.385
T2 1'13.700👍
L3
T1 35.273
T2 1'13.158👍 👍

Got a sweet setup, and now I am really enjoying this race!

Very, very nice Combo, Cyril!

How did I ever doubt you?

I'll post the setup, if the splits stand up! If not I'll wait till They do.

Neil

Some newer stuff: The RUF forgets his brakes on a right hander that leads to a bridge, causing him to mess up that turn and crash into a sharp corner which can't be wallriden - it's one of the best overtaking opportunities, since only a much faster exit speed might allow you to overtake him - and exit speeds are made by driving on the line, which is occupied...

Just found a sweet gearing - Auto 17. The start is quicker now, so I have to watch out for the Spoon on the right, but the right-hander can be passed by a quick dab of the brakes, followed by a long full-throttle throughout the sweeper at 4th gear - the Skyline R-Tune will be overtaken at the end, enabling you a free fight against the RUF starting from the quick left-handed "corner-jump" (which can be taken at full throttle, by violently steering left - the excellent turn-in will make the car miss the sand by a couple of millimeters (at my best run, I was so fast I had two wheels outside the rumble strip). The next set of fast turns won't need a gear-change, and can be taken at full throttle. On the next one that blinks, brake, turn, downshift and floor it - by now you should be extremely carefull not to run into the RUF.

That's it for today, still no splits. Good night.

Oh, and Cyril: I'll worship you if you get another combo like this anytime soon. Just get the RUF out next time...

Just get the RUF out next time...

GOD!!!!!!!

You're one sick little puppy, ain't cha? ;)

That thing should only deserve to be in this game still, if PD hadn't taken Complex String out of the track list!

CFM did a combo (I think?, if my addled memory still serves) of the RUF, around one of the city courses (S. Central, I think, again?, bloody memory!) and it was Bloody Awful!

Any of the RUF's suit a flowing track, a track that rewards smoothness!

Anyway, rambling!

Neil

Who, me or the RUF? ;)

Really, I hate RUFs. Atleast, the in-game ones. Lucky Cyril had a combo or two of RUFs, otherwise, who knows. I might have to race them. :scared:

RUF yellowbird @ the green hell.......trying to recreate a certain video? ;)

Not had chance to try this one out yet, I'll give it a go before bed though...watching Apocolypse Now...Erm...Now.

Nico combo Cyril, one of my favourite cars. Prolly because it's got a bike engine. 👍

PS. Any chance of them set-ups Neil? :sly:

Sjaak : an oil change and racing exhausts give 299 HP, 281 HP in the replay.
I tried several combinations of parts + oil change, and found no way to reach 295 HP in the replay.
I must admit I tried several combinations on a brand new car without an oil change, and couldn't reach exactly 300 HP.

I know a regular S2000 can reach exactly 300HP without turbo or N/A, but not this one.

Polish, Chip, Exhaust and Oil end up 301 - I took off the exhaust, ended up with 296HP. It's fine. I don't want that torque-drop that's supposed to come with the Racing-exhaust only.
And BTW, what's that weird power-curve? Kinda funny...

Just had a new line-up with no RUFs :
  • Trial Celica SS-II (ZZT231) '03
  • Amuse S2000 Street Version '04
  • Mine's Lancer Evolution VI '00
  • Opera Performance S2000 '04
  • Nismo Fairlady Z Z-tune (Z33) '03

With a gear ratio set at 8, I'm in third place at the end of the straight, behind the 2 other S2000's.

8? Do you still have gears for the straight? 17 gearing was alright down the straight - only slightly slower than the opposition, but then again, outcornering with this sweet car is the way to go. What gear do you take the first set of corners at? Does it redline somewhere? If it doesn't, I'm moving to it.
Gotta hit that line-up. Really, no Skyline and no RUFs...

Oh, and I'd like to remind everyone that due to the nasty AI and the many re-starts, either a backup save is needed, or not saving, for anyone who cares about the Win-ratio... Mine dropped from 85% to 80%, so I didn't save.

I'm in 4th gear most of the time. I use 6th only in the main straight and I don't even reach the red zone (top speed 235 km/h at the end of straight)

Edit :
7 is even better.
I still reach 234 km/h at the end of straight (but redlining this time), and shaved off 7 seconds from my race time.

Splits :
44.931 - 1'23.224
35.702 - 1'14.106
35.563 - 1'14.451

I can see consistent 34.8 - 1'12.4 on laps 2 and 3.
Having 3 cleans laps in the same race is another thing :ouch:

New splits :
43.479 - 1'22.272
34.565 - 1'12.593
34.804 - 1'12.100

Newer splits :
43.258 - 1'21.035
34.196 - 1'11.933
34.437 - 1'12.326

Lap 3 was a bit overcautious since I had just run my 6 best sectors for tonight in laps 1 and 2 (best T1, best T2 and best lap time for a first lap, and best T1, best T2 and best lap time for a flying lap). Strange thing is that the start was slower than usual.
The brand new Platinum White Pearl S2000 I bought tonight now has 155 km ; I haven't raced that much on any combo for ages.

Colby, would you be so kind as to initialize the leaderboard so that I can see my name on top of it for the first time, after 2.5 years spent in the WRS ;)

Edit : bollocks, I've just seen the post below. :irked:
