I noticed the postings about the gears strategy and realized I have never raced with manual transmission. Do most of you race in manual mode? And do you find that cuts down on your times? Or does it depend upon the car. My apologies to the mods if this post is inappropriate here.

Thanks!

Way back I was able to win a couple of D2 races using automatic. However in most facets of intense online competition you want to use every advantage at your disposal - and the ability to shift gears to select proper engine speed, engine braking and what not shaves off precious tenths 👍

Eracer:

I like you never used a manual tranny. "Sjaak" convinced me to give it a go and I can only echo "kennythebomb" in that it has made quite a difference here at least. 👍

At the outset my times went in the toilet but have rebounded nicely and have improved beyond what I could have expected. If you care to give it a try as I did go back and redo all your lic exams with a manual tranny that will give you a real feel for what can be accomplished........eventually.

As for week 99, I keep picking at it:

T1 - 25.613
T2 - 1'00.723

The second split is giving me fits eh?? :grumpy: :banghead:

I race using manual all the time. You should give it a shot, it's more fun and more real 👍

Wow! Guess it's back to the license tests for me with a new gear box. I'm eager to see how this will effect my lap times. I drive manual IRL so I suppose I'll have some sense of it in the game. I think I'll redo week 98 just as a test and, along with the license tests, it would probably be good practice for me.

Thanks for all your advise on this!!👍

Heck yeah man! Since you already understand the concept of shift points and all of that, the only challenge for you will be getting the coordination down. Adjusting your finger position and re-learning how to use the controller = far less harder than gaining the intuition in knowing when to downshift and upshift :)

Thanks for all your advice on this!!👍

No problem :)

Here's my T times so far.
T1-25.482
T2-59.346

That's with 320 gearing. And TSC :ouch:. Oh well. I'm hitting just the right points to brake to. It's awesome. I love this car. Driving is so relaxing. But that's me. That's why I race to Superbeast and Getting Away With Murder. :D

Later.

It's been a long while since I raced a WRS event, for numerous reasons I won't divulge here. Nevertheless, an arcade racer of the Ford GT40's calibre is not to be passed up, so rusty as I am at WRS, I'll be giving this one a shot!

First clean splits for me are:-

T1 24.650
T2 57.731

Good to see ya in here Smallhorses!

And Sammy, good songs... 👍

And, for whoever updated the leaderboard, you put me with Jetboy's original splits... Mine are over a second faster than that:
24.414
57.028

I'm using 330 gearing, for what it's worth, and using second gear for everything that's slow.

6 gears and GT Mode would be nice to fine tune things, but you can't have everything!

Thanks for fixing my time, James. Seems you left yourself out though...

What's this experiment, part 1 stuff?

After a lot of "I think I will race this week", but never getting around to it I finally did it.

26.045
100.671

I normally prefer arcade mode because it prevents me from screwing up the settings too much, but this car really need something to keep it from bouncing so bad when you hit the curbs. I try to take those double lefts before T2 as one big turn, always cutting it a little too tight, and then I bounce of the curb, by the time I get it back under control I have missed the turn in for the next turn and then I can't get a good start to that back straight... Not that I would know how to change the settings to prevent that.

This is FUN, at least if you remember the brakes are '60s-vintage and the engine runs out of effective steam right about the redline ;)

T1 - 0:24.937
T2 - 0:58.073

Thanks for the gearing hint, Kyle. I've found leaving it in 3rd for the right-hander onto W. 57th St. is a bit quicker for me though.

Wow! Looking at the leaderboard I might just submit already. :D jmgyro is posting up some fast stuff....

Cheers,
Jetboy

smokin' splits Kyle...

Love this car for the way it handles with these tyres on but im not keen on the roundabout. Hang on one sec, since when have they used roundabouts in the states???? Anyway here are my splits from wednesday.

T1: 24.293
T2: 56.849 (56.6##)

Washington, DC is full of roundabouts (aka carousels) and NY definitely has a few.

Actually, we've never had roundabouts...just traffic circles :sly:

The one in the game specifically is Columbus Circle, and I can't speak for the rest of the country but in the Northeast they are quite common.

Splits:
24.406
57.824

trying to put it all together here, but to no avail..

24.165 / 56.413 👍 ( seen 56.2 and stuffed it at the last turn before the final straight ) :(

I'll get another session in before the end

24.279 / 56.556

Quite frustrating combo, I've ruined some good laps at the last corner, this car is a simple nightmare as expected.

Edit: update
24.239 / 56.416

What's this experiment, part 1 stuff?

I wasn't in a good mood at the time, so I was going to run it just once.
But I changed the song I race to and I did better. As for the "experiment",
I was going to see how well I did over a few weeks to see if I should keep racing.

Edit:
Forgot this.

IF you enjoy racing with us James why stop and we all know your are fast, you even won one race out right 👍
Cheers guys i didn't know you had traffic circles but i know now :sly:

Extreme fun. there's a bit or two here and there to gain but so far I'm quite pleased with my progress this early.

24.433
56.703

Thanks Jake! But looking at some of the latest splits, it doesn't seem so great anymore... I'll have another go before I submit, and PLAN on getting faster. We'll see.

And yeah, we have "roudabouts" but they're pretty rare compared to in Europe.
Thanks:), I think I needed that.
I thought you already knew!? :sly: 👍
