No CD has 500GB storage capabilities... Now, the MHD is a whole different ball game.

As for the impact on our beloved GT series, I haven't read the article but I'm sure it's all very good if you don't mind waiting a decade for the game to be released!

Yeah lol, Bluray can have more then two layers.. all can be uncompressed and 400 GB so far. As everyone knows, its hard to scratch a BD disc unless its dont on purpose.. Just because BDisks are expensive now, dont mean in a year or two prices will drop dramatically.. Same story was with DVDs

I will pass on that CD 500 gig for this generation.. Maybe in 5-10 years we will see them. Sure they say it's cheap... but I bet they will have high prices once its out. As welll in 5-10 years from now, we will see more DL content over Hard copies like Discs.. Maybe it's too late for the Mighty CD?

That would men all cars ever created, all tracks ever created, an unlimited amount of features, and 10 long years to get everything on the disk.

So you're saying that the new beetle would look something like...

This? :sly:

I think it was in GT4 in a couple variations(RSI & Beetle Cup).

Also, I don't think there will ever be a need for 500GB discs in video games, unless it's a collection or something.

I highly hope that those "theoretically everlasting" and practically unreadable after first scratch discs will be dumped in next generation with something able to read much faster, more durable and storable.

A CD is a CD. When are people going to stop calling any media that is disc shaped, a CD?

You mean a "Compact Disc"...

Seems to me that a BR and a DVD falls into the definition of "Compact Disc"?! i.e. it is both a) "Compact" and b) (as you point out) disc shaped?!

C.

if GT6 gonna use 500GB blu-ray disk

thats mean we r gonna see next GT after 8 years - or more -

more disk space = more years 4 creating The next Gran turismo

no thanx pioneer, we dont need this disk

that is what they thought about dvd's. There will always be need for more space, not now but in 5 years with ps4 who knows.

didn't Bill Gates once said: all you need for internet is modem of 64 kbps, and now we have 24Mbps connections etc.

I am pretty sure that we are going to be using 250+gb for game storage in a couple of years. When the first person thought about holding games on dvd, everyone told him "you dont need that much space". And a few years later, MGS4 struggled with a Blue-Ray disc, and i assume that PD is going to need more layers to put GT5 on one CD (and when i say CD im refering to compact disc as yeti said).
Now it seems ridiculous to think of a game on a 500GB disk, but.... just wait and see

With the rate at which technology improves, it doesn't seem that far out there.....
Who knows what GT10 will be like.... maybe like the holodeck in Star Trek!!!!

Yeah, I'm sure that comment will come and bite me down the road when they have a hard time fitting it on 1 500gb disc.

I just have to make a couple of comments.

1. Every generation of gaming, the space requirements jump tremendously. Final Fantasy XV may need two or three dual layer Blu-ray discs, or one of the new holographic media.

2. The thread title is WAY misleading. :P

Somewhere I read, that our black lady allready can read 8 layer blu-ray discs, so 200 GB schould be enough

With downloadable updates that we have now, wouldn't PD and Kaz just keep that format going, for as long as they want.

Why bother with another disc,... whatever you call it.

Yeah true.

Hey guys by the way.. that CD ... Is it Compressed or uncompressed data?

On blu-ray you can have both right?
