GT5 - Aussie content mentioned by KY

... the unfortunately not anymore existing Longford Circuit (available as mod for some PC sims, incredible track) ...

Sadly, that's the case for many circuits of up to and including that era. I have many favourites. Sadder still, I'm not well versed in Aussie circuits (except the old Adelaide street circuit, Melbourne and Mt. Panorama.)

Incidentally, and somewhat off-topic, which sims is it available for? I'm always looking to expand my library...

Would you prefer a Mitsubishi Diamante then?

(got to love the bumper fitment on the above picture)

LOL Agreed on the bumper! I only just noticed that, and now you mention the Diamante I'd much rather the Magna given a choice.
It's gotta be the 380, not the Magna!

Or we could stick an Aurion in there!

:D

Yes! Aurion for the win! 200 killer wasps!

All I'm saying is... Australian cars have been featured in GT3 and GT4. Why not some Australian (or maybe even New Zealand) venues? Even GT2 featuring Tahiti (of all places) was semi-smart in including a French course or a French territory. Even if there are fantasy street courses around Sydney and Melbourne, at least SOME Australian track would suffice.

And I apologize for failing to mention Phillip Island in my last post. Completely forgot about that track.

Fantasy course in Sydney over the Harbour Bridge, under the tunnel and onto the Sydney Opera house - yeah I wouldn't mind that :)

Didn't PGR2 or 3 have a track in Sydney that went over the habour bridge, I remember it because in usual Australian style there was a fuss made from some group or media saying it promoted hoon driving on our streets and the game should be banned....

Haha.. Mitsubishi Magna for GT5! Not!!!

1_600.jpg

That has to be an absolute low point for Mitsubishi Australia. Boulay I think was the guy who was lead designer at the time and destroyed all that was good styling wise in the mitsubishi range.

Anyhow if they were going to put in a magna/diamante I'd be happy if it was the TJ. Used to have one myself few years ago.

In reality though I hope they don't waste any space on Aussie cars. They have their charm for some but they don't make anything good compared to the rest of the world.

I don't know about PGR but NFS2 did have a track that from memory part of it was very loosely based on the harbour bridge.

Perfect thread to hail one of the greatest racing videos on YouTube - real life One Lap Magic Race:

Aussie cars are a bit like Aussie wildlife I guess, some similarities with the rest of the world but each with a unique twist.

I do wonder since this is all about Holden and Ford, whatever happened to Plymouth ( or Chrysler in general ) in Australia, the Valiant also was a legendary racecar at Bathurst, right?
Did they disappear and therefore the fans too? Or are there only Ford and Holden fans over here?:)

Or you could read my post, the one I posted literally right before yours, where I mentioned Valiant.;)

I must be the only guy who'd like an AWD Magna in the game. With more power and less weight I might be able to make it good.

May as well throw in the TMR 380 and TRD Aurion, despite the fact they probably made worse all-round vehicles, they were still faster and looked better.

-> ...

Bolwell-> So I'm considered as a die-hard Aussie car enthusiast? :sly:

Maybe you are!

Why have special treatment for Australian tracks? Most of them are pretty blah and lack character. Only Bathurst is of note. There are plenty of better tracks in other countries that aren't in a GT game yet.

See next quote:

Hmmmm, matter of taste I'd say, Phillip Island is great fun too and there are others that are pretty unique and fun. Like Hidden Valley, the unfortunately not anymore existing Longford Circuit (available as mod for some PC sims, incredible track) and Sandown. There are many more though, with amazing layouts.

In reality though I hope they don't waste any space on Aussie cars. They have their charm for some but they don't make anything good compared to the rest of the world.

Hey, come on. You want some world challenging Australian cars? Valiant Charger E39 and E49, GT HO Phase III, FPV F6, HSV GTS E2 Series, Torana A9X, Torana XU-1, Elfin T5, Skelta Spyder, just to name a couple, all are comparable with other cars of their time period.

Dont forget about the VL Walkinshaw, VS GTS-R or the VE W427.

You know I've got no idea how the VL or the VS compares to other cars of a similar time period, so I left them out.

Oh noes, Paulie is defending Holdens and Holdens alone again by pointing out a reasonable assessment, he must be some bogan-faced blind fanboy.

VL Walky would be a fantastic addition. That car plus Bathurst (or Bath hurst if you're Jeremy Clarkson) would be great. Not sure if I said anything about this but some time ago I emailed whoever is in charge of the Mt Panorama track asking them if Polyphony Digital had been there to model the track or if it would be in the game. The reply I got was probably not the reply I was expecting. Unfortunatly at that time PD had not been there to do anything. But that was last year sometime so things might have changed since then.

The Bathurst 12 Hour race is going to accept GT cars as of next year, so that could be an opportunity for Kaz to learn the track.

Btw, sorry for going OT, but since many Australians are viewing this thread - are there any ways to order the collectors' edition from an Australian store (if I purchase it from America, then the DLC probably won't work cross-region)

You can pre-order the Collector's Edition from EB Games and (I think) JB Hi-Fi. I'm just waiting for Australia to get a solid release date and information about what editions we will be getting. I will wait until JB Hi-Fi has GT5 advertised all over their catalogues saying PRE ORDER NOW!! That's when I'll pre-order it. It's not like they will run out of Collector's Editions, it would have to be advertised in Australia first which is why I'm not worried about pre-ordering mine now.

I do want to put as many HOLDEN cars and other Australian models into the game as possible but Australia happens to be quite far from Japan. It's actually hard to get our staff over there to do a lot of the testing that we need to do. We're gonna keep making an effort to get there.

lolwut? I've been to Japan. Cost me a few bucks, and I arrived on the same day I left Australia. Our timezone is pretty much the same as Japan, too (I think there is 1 hour difference between here and Tokyo).

Why do they make it sound like a lunar mission?

Because they're own country is so small and tiny so they think 50 kilometers is a long way to drive. We drive 2,000 kilometers and think nothing of it. Therefore a plane flight overseas is.. well as you said a lunar mission.

They don't seem to focus much on Australia aye?

Nope! When do we ever get taken notice of? Everything is always for North America and Europe. We don't exist apparently. Not to be rude towards Americans or Europeans as I'd be insulting myself, but Australia does get forgotten a fair bit when it comes to video games. New Zealand don't have their own car but have tracks like Phukacowee (sorry for my bad spelling) and that street circuit the V8 Supercars now race on. That AU Falcon HAS to go.. there's no way they can have that horrid, ugly, piece of garbage again.

We're the 53rd most populous country in the world. Hence why we're a small market to appeal too. Sudan almost as twice the population we do. Why do you expect to be taken notice of? In any case I'd prefer to race around interesting tracks then the flat paddocks that are most V8 Supercar tracks.

Flat paddocks? Hmm okay.. well in my opinion I don't think Mt Panorama is a "flat paddock" or any other Aussie track for that matter but that's just my opinion. Certainly not flat in any sense (Believe me I've driven around it). And Australia is a far more advanced country than Sudan, the amount of people doesn't really make a difference. We're far more advanced in every aspect of life. We have high tech automobiles and Sky scrapers, they have donkeys, horses and mud huts. ;)

Actually, New Zealand do have their own car but it's presently struggling for funds to reach production. It's called the Hulme CanAm and I believe uses an LS7 V8. I'd love to have it in GT5 as well, represent the Kiwis bro!

@Casio Motorsports Land like?

@Paulie Is that really a concept car made in NZ? Never knew that exists here. 👍
