GT5 becoming more of collecting than racing?

I dont care about how others play their game. As my orig post, its just my observation about how this game is becoming so far.

But if you don't care about what others are doing and don't dupe or don't trade then your game is exactly as it has always been.

Well you know what? I got both my X1's by trading cuz i wasnt about to be assed into smashing my already crappy controller on some ridiculous races. And neither was i about to waste my ps3 time on bspec or nine hour endurances rather than actually enjoy the game.
So really, let people do what they want, it does not affect you.

Well thats your problem and its not by any mens affecting me.. If you cant win it.. cheat it...👍

I don't see how you can say that duping doesn't affect the game. It totally removes the worth of any car which is important for trading. Everybody knows that finding ONE car in the UCD can be hell of a long wait, so you trade others to get what you want with cars of equal value or special interest. Duping takes a small part out of GT5 which is working for cars that you really want. Yeah I could probably have 7 X2010's by now but what's the point of getting them for free? It's removing the challenge and time that you spent money to play. Nowadays everybody expects to get what they want RIGHT NOW or else they throw a fit. But hey you paid for the game, you do what you want, but just sayin...

You have just given me a new signature, Ill take that as new year's present.. Happy new year everyone :)

You just quoted your own post and then put that quote in your signature? Are you Xhibit by any chance?

There may be no point for YOU, but there is a point for ME. We aint the same person bro

Yeah I know, that's why I finished my 2 cents off with "You paid for the game, you do what you want." I'm not telling you what or what not to do or what the point of duping is (obviously to get what you want quickly). But when people say that duping doesn't affect others they are wrong, the dead marketplace is evidence enough.

I have 522 cars all of them hard earned it took me two days of contiously doing the euro cup in b-spec so i could have 4 mill credits to buy the car i wanted for a race and then that car came second oh well will have to do it all over again but thats what i love about this game i want every car in the game but i want the sastifcation that i put in the hours needed to get them not by trading or using this birthday thing

You get out of the game what you put into it. Some people are happy just to take one car out on Nurburg and get the perfect tune. Other people need cars. Enjoyment of the game comes down to attitude, no matter how big or small your garage inventory is.

I cant let this stupidity pass.. If you have a commonsense, u would think that I might have already changed my signature before I post that comment

Oh, now I see. You have such a fragile ego that you need a game like GT5 to make yourself feel like you are better than others...

Not so loud, E38 might hear you. :dunce:

The GT series always has been about car collecting, what are the 2 best things about the Gran Turismo? The amount of cars and the graphics. Polyphony call it a simulator, if they were just focused about the cars and graphics then they'd make it play like an arcade game similar to the Need for Speed series.

Even the maker of the series admits he collects cars, he drives a Skyline and some people wonder why there's so many of them in GT5 :ill:. He loves Skylines, deal with it, he's the boss.

Also a lot of car games have dance type of music in the game, usually good to drive to but far as I know Gran Turismo is the only car game which has a lot of different background music for when your in a menu. That same type of music fits perfectly when your looking at a car........standing still, not driving.

why it's killing the game ?

If the other have fun collecting cars good for them, in what way what others do kills your pleasure to race ? I dont get it.

I'm playing the game at my pace, getting the cars I want for online play and online events, having fun discovering new car to go faster, going online to race people etc..

Geez and stop with those skyline comments, it's getting annoying. GT5 always been a Skyline/Evo/impreza/RX7 game more than anything, especially the first ones, now you got Lambo, ferrari etc.. so be happy for once damnit.

Car collection is one of the great features of GT5 I agree, as long as it was done the "legal" way. Its kills your drive to work hard for the car you really want since you can easily get it from the "duped-car-trading" marketplace anytime.

What stupidity? You said:

Besides, it was just a joke.

Gah, getting satisfaction out of the game however you enjoy it is was exactly the point I was trying to make. My ego comment was about your seeming fascination with making sure that you were better than everyone else and wanting to prevent people from enjoying their game. But, if want to get all butt-hurt about everything I say, then more power to you.

I have only scanned the thread and I'm not entirely sure what the OP's real complaint is, but the Gran Turismo series has been first & foremost a Car Collecting Sim from day 1.

The focus on car collecting (by the game devs and then by the players) has always been detrimental to the racing aspect of the game and GT5 is no different than its predecessors in that aspect.

I hate grinding, feels too much like work. I work enough. I want to collect cars, then race my friends online while talking smack. So what if some of my cars were dupped, how exactly does that degrade the game? It doesn't, so clean the sand out of your girlie parts and enjoy the game the way you enjoy the game.

I just traded a BMW McLaren F1 GTR and an M3 GTR for a X2010. I am not at level 30 in either a or b spec. I made the trade because I am tired of the grind. I want to race cars I like, on tracks I enjoy. I do not want to feel obligated to do certain races over and over because of the credit or experience payout. Now I have an X2010 to do the grinding for me while I do other things.

So, according to the OP, I am not doing it the "legal" way. Except that I traded my hard earned cars for something that someone else earned(or not, I don't care). How is that "cheating"?

So do u still have those 2 cars?if yes then u didnt traded but you cheated.

OK I am going to show my "nerd" side with my response to this OP.
I don't think it is killing the game at all, and people who do, just don't trade. I think that, at least for me, it is a whole other game inside the game. I am still grinding B-Spec trying to get to Level 40 when I am not trading (currently Level 37 doing the 9hr race while at work ;)) and I also earned my first S.Vettel the hard way by completing bronze in the S.Vettel challenge. I never thought I would earn the gold in that event so I jumped at the chance to pick up the prototype when I could and then it sort of snowballed into collecting the colors with the more X2010's I had the more weight to trade for color's I needed. O and who thinks 20 million credits for 1 car is worth the grind, not once but 20 times? Not me, nor my wife ;) thinks it is worth it.
I will still try and beat the Vettel Challenge, and ultimately the game, but now it will just be after I get all of the colors and Level 40 on B-Spec. So to me I am enjoying it just as much!

Thoughts?

For me it's always been about collecting cars, to the point of the actual racing almost being a secondary aspect of the game, a means to an end if you will.

I guess for me I love cars and have done since I was a kid, old cars especially. Playing GT5 on Christmas Day for the first time I was getting excited about the sort of cars it had in it, like the 512BB, Muira, original Bertone Countach and so on. When I was about 3 I used to religiously watch The Italian Job *every day* and the opening scene (where they trash the Muira) actually used to make me cry (I was too young to figure out it was just a shell).

Sad though it is, GT5 is as close as I'll ever get to owning or probably even driving a Lamborghini Muira, so for me the hoarding and collecting aspect of the game is a massive element. Why shouldn't it be?

I mean, it's great that the physics are realistic enough to make it handle like the real thing, which brings even more to that 'almost-like-owning-it-for-real' effect, but whether I get the car by grinding or by trading, I'm not really fussed. I probably won't get 100% completion, in fact definitely won't. I doubt I'll do half of the endurance events, they're too long and my girlfriend would probably snap the disc in half if I actually had the thing running for days on end (even though she bought it for me).

Some of the trades I've done have seemed ridiculous to me - paint for a car, and a damn good car at that - how does that work? But in any market something is only worth what somebody is prepared to pay for it. Although I personally can't understand it, it seems that these paints are worth a lot to some people. I offered to trade a chrome paint for a Toyota 7 and the guy said no, and frankly I don't blame him - I'd have laughed in my face, but you don't ask you don't get . . .

Is it immoral? Ruining the game?

No - why should it? Play how you wanna play, don't try and project your standards or expectations on other people, you'll only end up bothering yourself.

As long as you're playing your game and enjoying it, what does it matter what everybody else does?

I love racing, especially the FGT championship. It's almost like F1 race, real track.
I love collecting car too, but i hate grinding. It's seems like you become the slave of the
game. So if there anything to exploit for that matter, I'll do it.

To set the record straight, I'm not against car collection, trading, gifting or whatever you want to call it. Its this cheating by the form of car duping is what took my enthusiam away from this game. Its a free world.. Even if its just a "game", you can still have some sense of accomplishment out of it.

At the end the day, dupe your entire garage for all I care. Its your life. If youre a born-cheater then so be it..

Yeah, I kinda know what you mean about that.

I haven't duped, mainly because I'd probably wipe my entire PS3 harddrive if I tried to do anything like that, but even if I knew what to do I'm not sure I would do it.

There is a certain sense of gratification knowing that you've earned something, even if that is a little hypocritical coming from somebody who buys cars twice because he thinks he might be able to trade them for something else

This has all come around because the game is not big enough, truth is there could have been twice as many championships in the game by simply running the tracks in reverse For instance "Sunday cup Reverse",or the game offers a car similar to that of you'r oponents for you to do the race or championship and by using that car you get double money and points or go with your own choice for half the reward. They just didnt think it through or maybe got too caught up with things like the track creator and weather which in my opinion is pointless
