I'm with you. Individual parts, aftermarket vendors, that would be a dream. Since it's GT though, I don't see it happening. I don't even see it being as good as FM3.

I just noted that the pictures are in English with the NA currency rates. I believe these are from the North American version of the game.

It says Cr., it's not real money, like all previous GT games. Or am I missing something?
As for it being in english, yeah, they have been like that for quite a while.

Yeah, dude, I have two eyes and can read. But, the Japanese version always has like 35,000,000,000cr. or something like that listed 'cause the credits are based off of the Japanese yen. The screens in this one seem like the credits are based of the US dollar. Although, I guess it could be based off of the British pound. I don't know.

The one picture of the GTLife main page we have is also in english yet the money there shows 3,500,000. I'm guessing that one is a photoshop they put together.People don't point out these tiny minute details cause they aren't really important.

EA, creator of Need For Speed Underground has tuning using real life vendors.
BUT
Polyphony Digital, creator of the god of racing games "Gran Turismo" one of the best selling racing games of all time gets stuck with stupid Stage 1,2,3 tuning. I mean comon. I'm not even as excited anymore after watching videos of people testing it and crashing or spinning out every damn video. Maybe their just bad drivers?

So you rather have plain, boring and simple "Stage 1 , Stage 2 and Stage 3 upgrades" then actually real parts that you can purchase in real life so you can replicate your car or something. I admit, I'm a kid but definitely not a ricer or a fan of the Need for Speed franchise due to it being unrealistic. As I kid I want to use Gran Turismo 5 as something like an alternative to real life racing and car tuning. In real life I'm not going to go in the store and say, okay... I want stage 3 engine upgrade. No, I'd say I'd like Skunk2 camshafts, Hondadata Intake manifold gasket,Wiseco pistons and stuff like that. I want Gran Turismo to replicate real life car tuning.

By Underground, I thought you were referring to that modifying and ricing culture hence by gigantic N-O. And last time I checked Underground didn't have any detailed tuning. Though I may be wrong, having the name of the parts' manufacturer won't do **** if they all do the same thing. Makes no difference tbh.

I think it's more along the lines of him seeing NEED FOR SPEED and automatically dismissing the idea. It's a natural reaction that most GTPers seem to have.

Not NFS, rather Underground.

quoted for truth its amazing how just baecause in NFS they gave you a list of manufactures to choose from its somehow "detailed" tunning.. it didnt matter which damn brand you chose it still did the same thing! or was it a pacebo effect..

i dotn want a list of manufactures i want actual parts with specs.. IE camshafts that are listed in deg's and lift not just a list of makes which all give you a 20BHP increase for stage 1..

i want N/A exhaust manifolds with different primera diameters and lengths and different style merge collectors and secondry lengths.. not just some brand name..

but i also realise how hard somthing like that would be to simulate so will be happy with just being able to tune the cars in the same way we have for the last 4 GT's

Haha! Weight reduction is an absolute bargain now compared to GT4. :D

It most likely isn't. The $500 for stage one most likely is a basic setup that takes off minimal weight and then you add the hood and it's already $4500.

One thing I would really like to see is an adjustable steering rack, so we can change ratios. One thing that bugs me a little is that the G25 steering is not 1:1 as a real race car would be, its all tuned to road car ratios. While I love the ability to turn my wheel 900 degrees, this is racing and I should not really have to take my hands off the wheel that often or ever in the case of an F1 car. I should be able to turn 90 degrees and get full lock on a race car.

My best example is Suzuka, in the F1 car I kept running wide on the hairpin and could not figure out why. I was turning what I thought was a normal amount to avoid wheel lock but couldn't hit the apex. Turns out (no pun) it wasn't enough, the game requires you to turn almost 45 degrees further than you would expect to hit the apex in tight turns and the degree of error increases as the angle of the turn increases.

Does anyone know how to adjust this in case I have missed it?

I don't know what to tell you, but I agree with your idea of that option. For now though I'll just say thanks for posting that.

I've been deciding on what wheel to get and that actually helps in the decision.

You have to get a FANATEC wheel to change the ratios. Just hope you wheel never breaks or has issues.

Wow are you serious? thats awesome, so I could actually adjust the Fanatec on the fly to have a ratio similar to an F1 car or touring car even? Thats all I need in this world.

What does turning angle in quicktune settings do then?.. I always thought it was steering ratio.

The DFGT/G25/G27 can adjust steering lock via software. So if PD really wanted to, GT5 could automaticly set the ratios for each car on the fly to it's real values!
But knowing PD they won't...

I hope that the tuning just works correctly, I like tuning and getting my car setup to just how I like it. I agree with the tuning your car to high HP and must having the transmission changed to support the power increase. Sure FM3 has all the named parts but believe me when I tell you, it matters not about the names, it's about how well you can get that car to balance between acceleration, top speed and grip/braking.

CoolColJ, I have seen those settings, but do they stick with the steering wheel if its not running a PC game, meaning can I set them for whatever ratio I want on my PC and then switch it to PS3 and it will retain those settings?

It's done through the drivers on the PC - the wheel sets its travel to what the software wants / requests when it connects, or at any other time during use - LFS does it fairly transparently. PD would have to add the feature for it to work in GT5.

It doesn't seem to be something hard to implement. Surely the lock-to-lock steering angle of cars isn't some kind of secret data that cannot be easily obtained.
900 degrees as a general value for most road cars might be ok, but for open wheelers or some racing cars most of the time it's really excessive.

At the same time I want more options then GT4, but not as crazy as some other games.
With 1000 cars, I do not wanna spend a long itme to mod a car after a car after a car. Besides Tunning Options are very good for the transmission and suspension. Wish we could tune the CPU chips ourselves.

So whatever GT5 will offer I will be happy.

For me, the best thing that could possibly happen on this front would be the return of "race modification". The ultimate would be to have "race-mod" broken down into different categories:

- Remove interior trim and passenger seats
- Aerodynamic body parts: Undertray, canards, splitter etc...
- Carbon panels
- Expand wheel arches (this would open the door for larger racing wheels)
- Lexan windows
- Chassis stiffening
etc...

That, and to choose realistic wheel / tyre sizes/types, depending on the car, would be fantastic. It doesn't seem like a huge ask for this area of the game really, considering how far everything else has advanced since we last had customisation, in GT4.

It would give us a lot of options when creating online championships - e.g. Production cars, wheel arch modifications allowed, weight reduction mods allowed, aero parts banned, Power limit = 540hp, min. weight = 1000kg, "semi-racing tyres" allowed.

Body kits are customization, not tuning.

Remember that snippet we recovered from the E3 2010 trailer? The word "customisation" on the scrolling "It only does..." list. I wouldn't count anything out just yet.

Personally I would like to see a system exactly like the one in GT2. Basically if any racing livery for that car was ever made, we could use it. So for example there were BTCC liveries for the Peugeout 406, Renault Laguna, Vauxhall Vectra etc. and NASCAR liveries for the Ford Taurus and I think a couple of other cars. It was like buying a whole new car when you gave it a racing modification. It was a feature way ahed of its time. As for body modification, I did enjoy the Need For Speed Underground series, but full-on bodykits are not really right for GT. I expect some light modification, perhaps things like spoilers, rims and rollcages, but I doubt we will be able to add neon underglow etc.

No, I was saying that body kits are not associated with tuning. I wasn't saying to expect or not to expect anything. Talking about tuning and bringing up body kits is like talking about baking and bringing up soup.
