dude i didnt say that the only way for people to advertise cars is in GT of course Porsche havent bombed because there not in GT have they missed out on getting there product placed in a game aimed squarely at there next generation of customers.. yes they have.. if your in a GT game your putting your company brand in millions of homes and its going straight to the people who are intrested about it.. fact thats a sales departments wet dream..

and where did i say you test cars out in GT.. its brand awareness, if you like it in the game as a child/teenager you end up remembering the brand just in the same way in the old days if your dad had a ford you liked ford because thats what your dad had..

So true. Its an absolute "no brainer" for a car co. to have every model possible in a driving platform sim with potential sales of 10 million or more.
Not only that but in GT, the one with the best reputation out there. (Thats why NASCAR is in GT5)

That kind of exposure is invaluable. Or as you put it, (forgive the paraphrase) "a marketing dept's best wet dream".

I can't imagine Porsche letting this opportunity get away under any circumstances.
 
so now were taking it as the renderd block is meant to be from the main picture aswell as the crank and pistons? if so then its a VR..

the 3.5 350z engine did come with a single TB but i have got a magazine article of it pre launch with the duel TB inlet manifold later used on the 3.7 and GT-R

as far as im awair the only difference between the VQ and VR is in the block which as quoted is closed deck and doesnt have liners..

Yeah but the 350z 3.5, actually I think all 3.5s had a single outlet facing the firewall then curving towards the driver side fender.

No the later VQ35HR's had a dual inlet.
 
Well it appears that a media outlet like GT doesn't really add much to your knowledge judging by your statement that Porsche has been around since the seventies...........
Please do some research as Porsche was established in 1931, their first car was build in 1938 ( a one-off racer ) and the first production car ( and the proper start of the company as it is today ) was in 1948.

when was the first 911? You do some research. Porsche's looked like VW bugs. They weren't big or even that relevant until the 70's like I said. That's when sports cars from over the world became more popular in america. I wasn't talking about Porsche's beginning. I could care less how long they've been making cars. They weren't relatively 'popular' nor was other brand until around that time period.

I've done my research so I can tell you the 911 originates from 1963 and they were quite big and relevant before the seventies and the world doesn't begin and end in America.
Don't care much for your opinions but at least you should get your facts straight when claiming a supposed fact like "Porsche has only been around since the seventies" not implying it only extended to America ( which is also incorrect as Porsche was already a well-established company in the US before the seventies, at least in racing circles ).
They only got huge saleswise until the eighties arrived.
 
Opinions since we don't know for sure of course: Do you think we will be able to completely remove the rear wing/spoiler on some cars? I think that the mid to late '90's Supra looks better without the spoiler/wing. Also, I am pretty sure that we will have wheel options since that feature has been in most GT games, but does anyone think we will have the option for a staggered wheel setup? Wingless Supra with staggered wheels = :drool:

And removing the stock wing on a MkIV Supra is sacrilege! But, as an option I think it's viable, since you can (since GT4) put after-market wings on instead, by swapping the model. Just swap for an empty model and shazaam!

Well, you did ask for opinions :dopey: But I would like to see both things you mentioned, assuming I've assumed right about the staggered wheel thing.

It's true, different sized wheels affect handling performance quite a lot (Both width and diameter).

e.g. The Lotus Elise S2 was designed with smaller front wheels (16" front, 17" rear). But the Opel Speedster/Vauxhall VX220 which used the same chassis and many components, had 17" front and rear wheels (For aesthetic reasons). Guess which one handled/performed better :sly:

The Supra just looks odd without a spoiler/wing of some sort, but I think the stock one looks awesome.

shut up! your not aloud to have or remeber cars or brands from GT people intrested in purchasing or liking cars must go to every dealer and test drive everyone.. you sir do not live in the real world!!

the lotus handels better but for being different i would still go with the VX220 as it has the big advantage of a 2.0 turbo sat in the back not an aging rover 1.8..

a set of wheels and suspention is easyer and cheaper to change than an engine 👍

but going back to wheels id like to be able to change the sizes.. but as long as where still on a level with GT4 ill be happy! i also want the old wheel second hand wheel feature of GT4 as they had some awsome old school wheels on there!

No there are not more questions than answers
Normal tyres are tyres which you put on normal cars
like on a opel :D or Ford or what ever
this tyres are not special and they are not good on a racing track

why you are confused if the sport tyres have 4 options and the racing slicks only 3 ? you don't need to be confused
I think the racing slicks have only 3 options because they are very good
Hard Medium and Soft this is enough

and i never saw soft rain tyres :D you can't find soft or medium rain tyres , rain tyres are all the time hard like in F1

Actually rain tyres in F1 are soft to the best of my knowledge. When it rains it gets cold and thus the rubber needs to be softer to generate heat. This is part of the reason why they suck in the dry.

But anyway, 'normal' to me is confusing because where does normal fit in the comfort (old n1,n2,3) range? Is it even comfort? Because normal for a car like the viper in that pic would not be a regular street tyre I assume.

Plus why have more compounds for sports tyres than racing tyres?

We need clarification as to how the pre race tyre selection maps to the tyre tuning screens.

First off, you wouldn't actually be being all that different. I see just as many VX220s as S2 Elises.

The only thing the Ecotec offers that the K doesn't is less vibration and a lazy torque curve. The K series engine was technically ahead of its time, so isn't as dated as you might think - plus it's only 1.8 vs. 2.2 / 2.0 turbo litres ;) The only real problem with them was a tendency to rot the cooling system and blow a head gasket :scared:
More a problem with the cheap ancillaries than the engine itself. (Good old Rover, typically exuberant despite the shoestring budget :P)

The only reason Lotus stopped using them (oh yeah, they're Toyotas now - is that better?) is because Rover got shafted and went under, along with the subsidiaries responsible for the blocks etc.

Engine swaps don't have to be expensive, either. Ecotec engines aren't exactly in high demand...

I'd still take an S1 over any of the S2 derivatives, anyway. :D

Similarly, the second-hand wheels ought to be in the size appropriate to their source; e.g. putting the centre-locking race wheels from the CLK GTR onto an EG civic with sports tyres (so, 15" wheels...) is a bit silly, unless you have the magic shrinking ray from GT4! :sly:

Yes, by staggered, I mean the same height, but different widths. I would want them mainly for looks in photomode, or for just cruising around (which I do from time to time in GT games), but not trying to set a fastest lap record with it. Here is a pic of my Challenger with staggered 22's, and a pic of the Mustang I used to have with staggered bullitt wheels.

Notice the bigger lip in the rear.

I guess these guys need to be shot out of a cannon? I think wingless with staggered wheels look great. I do think that wingless with stock wheels does look odd though.

Is the tuning shop gonna sell stuff like turbos and superchargers? I think one of the my favourite things to do in the new game will be to take small, slow cars and turn them into like...wolves in sheeps clothing.

I think it will take effect visually as well. Look at those tuned cars from Prologue, many of them have titanium racing mufflers. Maybe in the final game, we can install body kit on some premium stock cars to look exactly like those tuned cars in Prologue.

Someone said the exact same thing earlier. I don't know we've never been able to see a difference in the past GT titles. But I hope so. Maybe the PD guys thought of everything :)
 
Staggered = Front 17x8, Rear 17x9. Where as Non-staggered = Front 17x9, Rear 17x9. Then you have staggered tires where they would be 225 in front and 245 in rear or non staggered hellafunctional 255's all around...
 
Or staggered offsets which would make the car look better/worse and improve fitment and the track of the car.

But I don't think PD will go that far. But I really hope you can choose Size and width of wheels, followed by individual tire sizes
 
I really agree on that engine pic being the VR38DETT from the R35 GT-R. It certainly looks pretty much the same to me.

they must have been popular round you then.. i havent seen a VX in months! i pass a maroon S1 every morning and there are 2 s2's owned by brothers near me.. and i saw my first evora(spelling and name may be wrong) the other day..

a good lotus is what 7-8K you could perhaps knock a grand off that to get a good VX220 so your already a decent set of wheels and tyres and a tracking session up on the lotus as it is. plus for a daily driver i would preffer the nice lazy 2.0T over a buzzy 1.8..
dont get me wrong i love elises but i just think you get abit more bang for your buck with the VX220 and the ability to get abit more power with ease.. as tunning the 1.8 can get expencive for little gains and as you have pointed out there not exactly the most reliable engine on the planet,
when an intercooler exhaust and a re-map on a VX would make it feel like a whole different car, and most likely see me wrapping it round a tree being a pillock :sly:

confused about your engine swap comment though.. i was refering to swapping the engine in the lotus as this seems more common place now as a means of getting them up to a similar power of a VX... dont know what that means about the availablility of ecotec engines.. :ill:

I think they've just used the pic of the Rex as an example to show what that modification does and/or what areas of the vehicle it affects. As said by Reims it's too early to make assumptions. Also, personally I guess it would be more time consuming in the development process for them to model every single car to appear in that particular menu. Just easier to use a simple picture of one car as an example.

Just my view on it. :)

I'd like to do the same thing, since it's all about balancing the car's appearance, and can probably help the dynamics, too - depending on the choices made.

There was a spate of VX220s round my way a year or so back. I've not seen any Elises or VX220s in some time, actually. Oh, apart from an S1, but they don't count in this instance. I saw the remnants of an S2 Exige that managed to find its way into and around an old oak, though.

Yes, as a daily driver the Vauxhall is (predictably) better all around. But that's not what I'd buy an Elise for. Not sure what you mean about the tracking session (surely that's a good idea with any car?) and I disagree about the wheels and tyres comment - a lot of VX220 owners opt for 16"s up front, for a wider choice of tyres, and most say it handles better that way. Other than that the tyres are the same on the two cars (same compound and width). Then the hubs on the VX220 are 0.5 kg (each) heavier than the Lotus...

The K series is perfectly reliable as long as it's kept "cool" (like any engine) the problem is that, these days, "nobody" services their cars anymore, so the coolant issue (which starts off as a gradual leak) goes un-noticed.
They can be turbo'd, too, with a bit of work.

Though, if you're going S2, you're better off all 'round with the Toyota anyway (servicing / insurance etc.) but it apparently is "harder" to squeeze power out of.

Just imagine if all of this is possible in GT5? You really would get the chance to be "different" ;)

maybe didnt type it clear but i meant if you took the price difference into account you could use the spare money to pay for a new set of wheels and tyres and a tracking session to bring the VX up to par grip wise with the lotus thus only spending equivalent money and you have more power ontop which is why i would go for the VX as you say you can turbo and get power from a K series but thats more money than a car with a nice turbo lump sat waiting for a fettle.. my choice of cars today is based purley on price nowadays..

if i had an elise and the money for any kind of engine swap i would be truly different and use what i know and drop in an SR20VE lump which i have sitting at home..

unlike others though i think we both know deep down engine swaps wont be in there... i can see displacment increases but no way engine swaps in GT5..
 
Is everybody pretty confident that we will indeed be able to change the wheels on our cars? I haven't seen any screenshots are proof otherwise. I know it has been a feature in every other GT and I would assume that it will be in this version, but i could rest easier knowing that it is in.
