Carl, I was going to send you a msg today and ask for specifics for rfactor!
What a great resource you Kentuckians are!

I do have 1 good question: Where is all that information readily available?

Plus buying their crappy wheel or the over priced Fanatec. Cuz Mr Gates made sure of finding yet another way to screw people over by not allow Logitech's wheels to be usable on the 3shi##y.

You do realize that the 360 uses a totally different FF system than PC/PS3 right? Hence why the Fanatec Turbo S wheel needs a dongle to work with the PC/PS3.

I get it, you don't like Microsoft, you can still at least be informed about how it works.

Thank you sir 👍 Here is a link to rFactor's main website http://www.rfactor.net/

And here is a link to rFactorcentral, where you can download literally hundreds of cars and tracks for free http://www.rfactorcentral.com/

Boy, rFactor should think about doing some advertising.
This is the 3rd or 4th time I've seen people on the forum
who think you have to pay a subscription to play rFactor.
Nothing could be further from the truth. rFactor is so cheap,
it's mind boggling. If you buy a new DFGT or G25/G27, you
get rFactor FREE with the wheel. If not, you can get it for
$10 (used) on eBay or about $25-$30 new. After that, all the
mods (tracks and cars) are free to download from various places
on the internet. And you don't need a $2,000 supercomputer
to play rFactor either:

rFactor is a great game. But I got a Disc with my G25, and it's only a trail version.. it lies on the box. But yeah, game is very cheap, not to mention it has like a billion mods out there! rFactor is better sim over GTR series.

Not to mention rFactor 2 is as long in the making as GT5! or so it seems LOL! rFactor 1 was released few months later after GT4 US version came out. So basically we are waiting for rFactor 2 as long as GT5!!!!!!!!!!

No need to buy GT5 then huh? You could sell your PS3, make a tidy bit back on your investment and buy Rfactor and race to your hearts content.

If you choose to do that. But if already have G25 (or a DFGT) wheel as I do, a PC that could run rFactor (in my case a pretty good macbook pro also running Windows along with OS X) and a PS3, and you don't have to support a drug habit then you don't have to sell the PS3. Buying a 360 would mean a new investment in a wheel (and if it's Fanatec, even more), a new console and if I want to download any further DLC or even play online, a subscription to xlive. I know because I did exactly that and while it was worth the few months that I did spend in FM3 (albeit without xlive), after a while I naturally went back to both rfactor and even GTR2 to compliment GT5 TT.

To me GT has always been about car first and racing next and personally, I'm a car nut first and a racing nut next so the the attraction to both these games are quite complimentary. With Forza 3, I've yet to grasp the concept of what T10 is trying to do other than it's a pretty good game.

There is version of rFactor that's only available to professional simulation (F1 team, for example) that sits between the current one and the upcoming rFactor2. I believe it's called rFactor Pro (obviously).

I don't have a gaming PC. Can you use an HDMI cable from an HD video card to use directly with your HD TV? If so, does it perform well?

Cheers

Yeah, you can use an HDMI cable to connect to your monitor/TV if your video card has an HDMI output. And many ATI video cards also carry sound through the HDMI, eliminating the need for a separate audio cable, but don't count on it until you have it hooked up and know for sure. Some video cards with HDMI outputs also require you to hook up audio via an SPDIF connector. Or, you can just run your audio cable from your computer to the RCA jack, or HDMI sound port on your TV.

I don't know if you have one already, but you can get a good graphics card--with HDMI outputs--for about $50, and it will really make the game look better. Here is an example of one you can get--Radeon 4650 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161303

Upgrading your graphics card is the cheapest, easiest way to be able to play games with better graphics. Most current games are more dependent on you GPU power than CPU/RAM power right now.

Carl, I'm taking the dive!

During my free trial hour, most of my time was spent wondering in confusion. Then, I realised you could buy all kinds of cars, and then I realised you could tune most of them, to varying extents. Granted I only used the keyboard buttons, but it seems very fun. And with the butt-ton of stuff available on the innerwebs, it should be enough to keep my addiction under control until GT5. I should have listened months ago! Shake and Bake!

Also, this game on my computer sounds real cool. The different cars are very distinct sounding. One last thing, the graphics are nt on GT's level, but the tires on the open wheelers look true to life, in my opinion (duh). I was stunned how good they looked.

Side note- I loved 'deviled ham' when I was a kid

Just had a look on the argos website (argos is a uk chain of retail stores) and they have a release date of may 2010, tbh to me it show's how much sony and the developers actually care about consumer's. they think we will buy it anyway when they decide to release it... but sorry sony and p.d thing's aint like that anymore most gamers will get annoyed and buy other consoles simply because company's like msoft don't mind spending to give gamers the stuff they want. the fact most retailers are already discounting an unreleased game tell's us something !!! if it is after may and more like xmas 2010 as most people seem to think by the time it is released it will be almost out dated and pd will have to update all the car's i think tbh the point when retailers start losing confidence in the games release or pre orders start to get cancelled the game will get it's release. the game may be good but the publicity surrounding it is starting to go bad

Thank you for the information. I will look into it since with a PC I can still use my current G25. The alternative is an XBox, but it would require a new wheel and second rig. Either way I'm probably looking at $400+. If only GT5 would release :banghead:

Cheers

I dont know what type of racing you like but here are some good mods you might like to try out.

Enduracers (American and European GT and LMP Racing 2006-2008)

Historic GT & Touring Cars (some great racing from the 60's and 70's, you need the disk for Simbins GTLegends as some cars were imported from this game.)

Touring Car Legends (needs a little polishing but great fun none the less, Includes most of Group A touring (missing R32 GTR, XJS Jaguar amongst others though).

Formula Nippon (Great Openwheeler mod).

Is it fair to say that a lot of the ambiguity and lack of information might be to do with Sony being worried about how specific news about problems in production/design of this game and `unoptimistic' sounding release dates might affect their share prices?

The chess player Garry Kasparov has a conspiracy theory that IBM cheated
in order for their computer to beat him in that series of matches they played. Immediately after the computer had won, IBM's share prices rose dramatically, adding hundreds of millions of dollars to the company's value.

After 5+ years, anything is fair to say. It's fair to say they didn't seriously work on GT5 until 2008. It's also fair to say that GT PSP required more time than expected and thus, GT5 was neglected. It's also fair to say many other things.

I wouldn't get too wound up about all of this. I wouldn't be surprised if, like the US, Japan's financial year actually started before the calendar one does (meaning that we're already in 2010). Even if that isn't so, there's still a strong possibility that there was a simple translation error, either by direction or culture.

Take into account the possibility of this being (at least partly) true, the original release date and completion percentage of the game, and I think that a delay of over a year is very unlikely, to say the least. In fact, I had to restrain myself from using the term, 'extremely unlikely'.

Japan's 2009 fiscal year ends on 3/31/2010. So it's still 2009 in the terms of this conference call.
