HOWEVER - I have pre-ordered, and my order summary page now gives a dispatch estimate of 24th - 25th March 2010. I do not recall seeing this information on Amazon UK previously...
It's a bit early to pre-order for me. I know they can be cancelled, and I suppose it makes you feel one step closer to ownership, but right now, we know nothing about special editions, nothing about the prices various retailers will charge, and nothing about any pre-order bonus items that might be offered. I'd rather just go into a retail store and buy it on the day, but, if it a special edition can be had cheap with some extras online, that would be enough to persuade me.

Yep, I know, it's GT5 - price is almost irrelevant etc., but if you have the choice, why not?!

Sometimes I do pre-order, sometimes not.

For GT5, I pre-ordered in Aug 09 !!! at £39.99. Amazon UK have a pre-order gaurantee that they will match any cheaper price that they offer up to release date. I pre-ordered MW2 at £45 and ended up paying £32.

... and anyway, it's the update of the dispatch date that interest me most!!!

the topic here isn't other games or future sales of other games, we are talking about GT5, only one game and their marketing strategy for one game, which i believe, will not outsell any other "big game"+PS3 bundle. Lots of us have purchased PS3 just for GT5 and on assumption that the game was to be released in 2009 or even earlier, so we already have console. I my opinion there aren't that much customers that are only waiting GT5 and then will purchase PS3. But there is a lot of customers who will own two GT5, one being Japanese version and after wards normal version.

Well, clearly 3 years after the PS3 release, the amount of potential new sales will be lower than it was in 2006. Remember though, the PS3 is in a 2nd generation, with the PS3 slim, which is not only cheaper, but has a wider market appeal. Don't underestimate the selling power of a massive title like GT5 would have on PS3 bundles. In an ideal world, it would have been the release bundle for the Slim, but that's not to be.

Seeing as though Amazon do not charge your card until dispatch, they have to charge you the lower price if it goes down anyway because a contract is only formed when you have been charged. Technically, they could charge you a higher price if it goes up, but they won't because that would lose them business!

The information coming out is interesting though, and hopefully the start of a steady stream of reliable marketing and hype.

I figured I would never purchase a PS3 because I have the 360...

But just a week ago I picked up a PS3 slim only for GT5 since I'm a racing game nut.... :)...

It's going to be a console seller thats for sure.

Back to topic :) I have been proven wrong. The OPM did deliver new things.
Impressive. Still want to have timeforward machine.

I've just gotten the Magazine! It looks even better in person :D

Strange, everyone is going for B&N and coming up empty handed. I just got mine off a Magazine aisle at the local Tom Thumb.

im sure a lot of car fans, race fans or race fans went out and bought 360 because of Forza (I AM ONE OF THOSE PPL)... but i bought my PS3 for GT... 5 years later... still no GT... but im waiting...

if im not happy with the game ill just get a 360 with Forza again...

Eh??? The PS3 launched Nov. 2006. That is just 3 years and 2 months ago. However, 5 years ago, we did have the GT4 launch.

Still, I feel your pain.
