I agree but then he added that he was only 3 days late and now everything is up to SONY. So if the new release date makes people mad we're just supposed to blame SONY, right?
No, that is not what he said. He says it is up to Sony now because Sony has to completely juggle their November and December plans (they put more than just games on Blu-Rays) to work GT5 in and still get it out this year.

It is like being 45 minutes late to your doctor. You were late, but now it is up to your doctor to either work you in as soon as possible, holding up everyone else that day, or reschedule you later. It is not the doctor's fault if they tell you to come back in two weeks.

👍
I'm with you man!
If it's coming out in 2011 I'm switching to regular version and not buying any DLC ever. They can suck me off after all this nonsense. 6 years for a freaking racing videogame are you serious? It's not like creating a living breathing world full of vibrant characters as in an RPG.

PD, you suck royally. I'm sorry but you do. I'll be a GT fan forever because I was 14 when I started on GT1, but I really do think you guys suck at getting things done in a timely fashion.

With this delay I can go buy FU II. Because if GT5 can out when it was supposed to I wasn't buying any other games. Whenever GT5 comes out I 'll get it. No big deal life goes on.

work us in asap!!! come on sony, you know how important this gem is to you, probably the most important sony product that's about to come out

I am glad to see Kaz handle this crisis, albeit not the way we all would've wanted, but he issued an apology and gave us the reasons as soon as he could, that shows that he does indeed care. Today's news is a lot more uplifting than yesterday's...thank you Kaz!👍

Just because you issue an apology doesn't mean you care (at least in regards to there being a delay). He may have just issued such an apology to cover his arse after all of the controversy which has swept around GT in the past day or so.

he gave us the reasons for the delay, he went back on twitter which he's been absent for almost a month..? and if that's not enough, just look at the blood and sweat this man has poured into the game for us....I would say he cares

No saluki the official reason for the delay is that PD wants us to have the best racing experience possible.

Kaz being in the industry should know the repercutions of submitting something 3 days late too.

Key words.

All I'm saying is that, your opinion that he truly cares (other than to protect his reputation & sales) based on some simple apology written on his twitter (that probably took 5 minutes to write) is just that, your opinion.

They better start paying their workers overtime. :)

So...let me get this straight: GT5 missed the production window by 3 days, but the game is finished...and Sony's delaying it an entire month? Is that REALLY necessary? If it's finished, why can't they push it back a week? I mean, 3 days late could easily translate into 7 extra days, but 30 seems a little excessive, doesn't it?

To those who don't understand why 3 days late = 4-5 weeks delay or even longer, please read on.

Firstly, you need to remember that production facilities aren't only producing GT5 copies and are probably busy 24/7 making Blu-rays. Everything goes by a schedule and there's little time for buffer. The production facilities are probably churning out big titles like Call of Duty, Need For Speed, Assassin's Creed which are all November releases right now and are at full capacity.

If GT5 was 3 days late and it only had 5 days slotted in the production facilities, Sony can't just tell the production facilities to finish GT5 and delay all the other games. That would be chaos. Imagine COD, NFS, AC: Brotherhood all getting delayed, people are going to be mad pissed.

So, GT5 has to wait until there's a free slot to copy the games. That can take up to a week, 2 weeks, however long it takes. Hopefully this can be resolved in a couple of days. That's point one.

Secondly, global distribution can take up to weeks to get around. The most cost effective method to get 5 million discs around the world is by sea. However, those cargo ships don't just ship GT5s out. There's all sorts of stuff from all kinds of companies that needs to be shipped out to a certain location. Taking that in mind, cargo ships can't idle in the port, because they can't afford to be sued by companies for being late and screwing up their business. So they don't care if the GT5 shipment isn't there, they just sail off without it.

So now GT5 misses the original shipment date and needs to wait for the next ship to come. Funny thing is, these cargo ships aren't like planes and aren't as frequent and can be days to weeks until the next ship arrives. Also need to take in mind that ships are slow and can take weeks to get to destination depending on how far it is.

If you add all these things up, it's reasonable to see why Sony can't give us a date before the end of October. They are probably scrambling to see if there's any open production slots in any facilities and checking with shipping companies to see the next available ship that isn't full. Taking in the holiday seasons where everyone shipping stuff, it's going to cost extra for such last minute shipments. If you account for all the locations GT5 is shipping to and how it's aiming at a worldwide release, then it can be quite a long delay. Hopefully GT5 gets out as soon as possible even if Sony has to pay a hefty penalty for it. :nervous:

Up to this point PD might have not planed on releasing any further game info, being so close to the release, But with the delay, one way to hold the wolves at bay, would be to release more detail on the games contents.

Well lazania, if you want to believe that lie, thats your problem man.

Did you miss the multiple posts describing how it's not just being 3 days late, it's being 3 days late for your production line slot. Sony now have to find another opportunity to get GT5 on the production line without compromising other products that use Blu-ray disks.

Thanks for that man!👍

Couldn't Sony make the production facilities manufacture GT5 for the remaining days, then the rest as soon as possible? In this way those who preodered the game in advance would be rewarded.

I'd say it was far more than that.

  • Over 250 cars showcasing a level of detail never seen before in a videogame, each taking 6 months' worth of man hours to perfect.
  • Over 70 unique tracks with over 100 layouts, each taking 2 years' worth of man hours to perfect, including the much-loved Top Gear Test Track.
  • Handling dynamics completely unrivalled on home consoles.
  • A huge range of racing disciplines, including NASCAR, WRC, karting and F1.
  • Real-time deformation damage model.
  • Dynamic dirt accumulation on cars.
  • Dynamic weather and time of day cycles, showcasing rain, snow, humidity, air pressure and moving, volumetric clouds that cast shadows on the ground dynamically.
  • Customisation including engine and chassis overhauls, as well as the opportunity to tune engine notes.
  • Track generation tool.
  • Online track days for up to 32 players (16 players racing and 16 players spectating).
  • Head-tracking with the PlayStation Eye camera.
  • Many real-world racing drivers, including the Stig, some running driving schools in-game.
  • 18 mega-pixel Photo Mode incorporating unique locations with the ability to walk around and drive your vehicle.
  • 1080p HD replay uploads to YouTube.
  • 1080p at 60fps.
  • Hugely in-depth "B-Spec mode" where the player takes on the role of crew chief.

I've no doubt left a whole load out of that list, some of which we haven't even been told as of now.

I remember when i was younger we didn't knew if the game is delayed by 2-3 days/weeks.. we just waited for the game to come out.

This generation is full of cry babies lol

I guess the next generation when people hear of a delay they will suicide...

If it really is an issue with printing the discs then I hope those people that are saying that they aren't going to buy it anymore are serious. Because if that's the case then there's a good shot that the initial shipment is going to be smaller that Sony would want. Which pretty much means that the game will likely only be available to those that pre-ordered it.

Well, maybe all these people that are canceling their preorders will allow sony to realize that maybe they can quickly and unabatedly print enough for a "first edition" to meet just the preorders so those of us who stayed faithful will get it close to on time, while those impatient nahsayers will have to wait longer for more to be pressed. Either way, I was angry at first but life goes on. And if it had come out on the second no christmas or birthday shopping would have been done, and I may also have let christmas fly by without noticing!

It reminds me of the "good old days" where Europe had to wait 9 months for some games after their original release in Japan... which was good enough, since some wouldn't even make it to Europe.
