Imo, the GT PSP is a big part of why we're waiting so long, it should have been on the back burner (yes, again) until GT5 is complete. But I'll wait patiently, while foaming at the mouth :)

Let me get this right, GT5 is delayed for 1 month, in japan?

For an "undefined" period, and for alleged "ambiguous production issues" reasons. Since they can't blame development anymore :sly:

Edit:
One theory says It's not to coincide with the launch of Good Of War:
http://mmomfg.com/2010/01/13/gran-turismo-5-delayed-0113/

Which would make sense in a logic of "maximize other sales and screw the guys waiting for GT5, they will always buy it whenever it comes out..." that I believe rules Sony by now.

That's make no sense... FM3 has Porsche in it! :ouch:

That's cause M$ forked over a lot of cash to pay EA for a license "rental".:ouch:

If his is truly a sony marketing thing, aren't they afraid of pissing off Kaz and driving him into the hands of M$?

Kaz... Top Executive Producer of PD (Sony owned) and Vice President of Sony Computer Entertainment run off the MS (in a foreign land) because he got more time to finish a title?

Some delays on GT5:

1) It seems a lot of people are making up when they want it to come, not always realistic.
2) An official release date was there, but:

I have been a software test team manager, quite a while ago.

The developers say, it all works by then, we can release.
But testers say: look I can crash it.
Dev: Nobody does that.
Test: I just did, no release.

As a project manager in a later stage, I can tell you, very difficult to plan bugs and how easy they will be to solve.

However management, marketing, etc... certainly also play a decision in a release date.
Does GT5p still make easy money, why throw a cash generator away? Milk it!
What is our competition doing, how can we sell more PS3s?
Does it make sense to have different versions with different languages, is it not more sensible to produce 1 version, with all languages (marketing, production, logistics)?
Will I lose more sales in the US by putting a prior date in Asia then I would lose in Asia by a small delay?

We will not know, except for the translator guy that is. We need to get him in our team. :)

If he's the vice pres of SCE, and he keeps saying it's up sony to release the game, doesn't that means it's kind of up to him?

As for more time to finish the title, what exactly is there to finish? The game is most likely done and waiting for a date.

Since November that "the man" Kaz said we could launch any time now.

So... Marketing reasons only for me. And as valid as they may be, we are in the other side of the fence, getting more and more irked knowing we could be playing it already.

He holds the title and has influence but as he said in interviews he rather stick to GT.

You, We, don't have a clue what needs to be finished, Kaz has mentioned in interviews that Sony push him into a release but he holds them off. Kaz wont knock back time any day and we have no proof it's being delayed in Japan because Sony wants to stagger releases. Especially for a game like GOW3 which doesn't have much of a market in Japan at all.

I think you got two Kaz's mixed up, unless I'm behind on some news, Kazunori Yamauchi is the head of PD and Kazuo Hirai is the VP of Sony Operations

Kazunori Yamauchi is a senior vice president at SCEI. That being said, I'm not sure, but I'd say it sounds more a pay grade/level, like in investment banking (analyst > associate > VP etc.), than it is a specific position of power.

Unless your from Japan this delay shouldn't concern you anyway, Sony have already said that this is only affecting the Japanese release date and not the EU and US releases which we'll hear about soon. My guess is that they're going to do a simultanious global release or a global release within a short space of time like a week or two.

Anyone else sick of hearing this?

GTPSP was announced before GT5 was, it was also probably done by an entirely different team. Plus if you even played it you'd realize it probably didn't take long as it's just a port of GT4 with a few new cars and 1/4 of the features.

If it becomes a global release date. Otherwise, if we were to get the game like end of March + 2 months in EU and US (for example), it concerns us all to get it for instance August +2 in EU/US.

Sony saying it only affects JP release date is, again, playing with words and saying "but we never promised a date", in this case in EU and US.

The fact that they've said it's only for the Japan release says a lot. Dave has touched upon it.

In fact, you could place a decent bet on someone saying (market research project manager) that the game should be a global release.

hornet_burnout - No, it doesn't neccessarily mean that. The EU and NA markets have release dates, they just aren't public.

I don't think we'll get the, what looked likely, of a several month split between releases. Which makes no commerical sense whatsoever with the GT market share, but pretty sure they've done it with every other release of the series.

Well, after searching a bit I found that a PS4 launch is "expected" in 2010 (2011 tops). So milking the cow right to the end, and giving us the title that sells the most in PS consoles closer to end of it's life, knowing it will sell millions anyways, and then launching the PS4 6 months to a year later with 3D, and the hype of GT6 in 3D already starting to grow from the CES 2010 3D demo, makes perfect demoniac marketing sense.

Yes, a bit of a conspiracy theory, but I'm really annoyed at this... :(

Kaz answering if GT PSP held up GT5:

“I will not contradict you, because all versions of GT are developed within the studio Polyphony Digital. If a person works on an item, it necessarily prevents him from doing anything else. So yes, there is some truth in what you say.”

The PS4 will not be here for a few ears yet, we might start to hear the first bits of official information towards the end of this year, but there is no way the console will be out this year or next.

I think it's delayed because of the release of other titles as some of you said earlier.
Several games will be out in the coming months and these may be considered as platform sellers. Check this out :

Heavy Rain : February (worldwide release)
Final Fantasy XIII : March for NA/EU
God of War III : March for NA/EU

Sony obviously can't release GT5 before april or even may. Well, they can but in order to make more money, it's clearly not their best interest.
Now the only reason because GT5 don't have the priority over other titles may be because Polyphony was still working on it while other studios were maybe farther in the development process.

It's still ****ing boring anyway :D

It doesn't say that person would have been working on GT5 though. It's basically stating the obvious, if you're doing one thing you won't be able to work on something else.

Your previous post was an unfair chastisement of another poster who commented that GT PSP is probably why we're waiting so long for GT5.

That quote confirms GT PSP delayed GT5, thus rendering your chastisement moot.

It wasn't meant as a comment on PD's allocation of it's employees, which as you say (on the contrary to your previous post I might add), would be stating the obvious.

How was it unfair?

He gave his opinion and I gave mine as a response. It's called a discussion.

I also gave my opinion that the link you provided doesn't prove anything except that PD could have had more people working on GT5. This doesn't mean much though since you can normally have more people working on something.

If you don't like discussions I would recommend staying away from the Opinions forum here.

It was unfair because you posted in a belittling fashion, made infinitely worse by the fact you didn't even know what you were talking about. If you're going to be on a high horse, for God's sake at least be right man!

Discussion? I'm not the one who posted that I was "sick of hearing this", that's hardly encouraging (constructive) discussion. You chastised, and got proven wrong. GT PSP DID delay GT5, and that comes from the mouth of the creator of both. There is no opinion there, accept it, move on.

I definitely, wholeheartedly agree with you they could have more people working on it, but that's a whole other discussion, and was not what your original post, the one which the quote responds to, was about.

As cute as your attempts to backtrack and deviate are, please just accept it and move on. Or don't, I couldn't care less as you know how silly the nature of your original post is, whether you admit it or not.

How did I get proven wrong?
Where did Kaz say "GT5 has been delayed because of GTPSP"?
Yes he said there is some truth in it, that isn't the same thing as saying it's the cause of the delay. There is some truth in saying that Kaz has had a role in the Forza series. That doesn't mean he is a part of it.

I stated my opinion that I was sick of people blaming GTPSP. How is that chastising? Not to mention your post is more belittling that anything I have posted over the last two pages.

Jeez...PD/Sony are receiving some hugely negative reactions with this delay topic. Even on VirtualR people are bashing PD/Sony for this. Look at this post for example:

"There was a point where this stopped being funny, and we passed it around a year ago. I’m never getting Polyphony to build my goddam nuclear bunker – The fallout would have come and gone by the time they’d announced they’d completed the door handle.":lol::lol:.

I'm sure they'll make more anouncements either today or at Brussels motorshow stand, or whenever/wherever the next gameshow or motorshow that GT will attend. If Sony thought the delay would do good to sales, the reactions to today's 🤬 may prove them wrong
