If Sony is attempting to drop a bomb I find it hard to believe it will be at a developers conference. Most news that comes out of developers conferences are things that have to be pulled out of the details.

At the US GDC Lego Rock Band was unofficially revealed, but only because media got a copy of Harmonix's preliminary Powerpoint presentation. The official presentation did not have it in there. So, if we get GT5 news at GDCE I doubt it will be straight forward.

Personally, I expect to see more info at GamesCon, but the final announcement at TGS.

I only say that because Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai is the keynote speaker. Those are often used as reveals. Last time Hirai keynoted TGS he revealed the DualShock 3. I can imagine that will be where we get a price cut (or slim) announcement along with major GT5 details. His address is to be titled "New Tactics for 2009," which is an interesting topic for September.

Disclaimer: With the exception of Kaz Hirai being the keynote presentation at TGS all I have said is pure speculation. I can, and very well may be, wrong.

Your are right, but not with everything.
The GDCs have a huge history of surprises:
MotorStorm in-game was first shown there, Ratchet & Clank ToD, LittleBigPlanet and HOME were revealed there and KILLZONE 2 was shown behind closed doors there.

I thought LBP and Home were at E3.

Those were at E3. Or have we already forgotten RIIIIIDGE RACER!!!!

Nope that was at GDC, i will never forget this day, it came out of almost nowhere. lol
HOME was leaked from Kotaku before though...

I guess Kaz Hirai will be talking about, Price cut for PS3? and maybe he will talk about an approach to people with the motion controller ala Wii, because he said he will talk about what direction is going to take the PlayStation Family or Something like that, but I DO expect more info at GamesCom, although, The Big Bomb is dropping at TGS, im almost Sure.

I actually agree completely about the way in which GT5 will be announced but one little thing that keeps niggling about this Developers conference is the fact i really feel as if their is something huge about GT5 we dont know, and its technical detail will be the star of this conference. Maybe something big about PS3 and GT5 integration, maybe something really special with face recognition.

Or then again............maybe not.

But at GDC, it will be SCEE Press Conference, with the keyword being that it's open the press. VG247 for example will be there with liveblogging as will others. And besides it's a 3 hour Press Conference. To me it sounds very much like what they had at E3 except this is more geared towards the EU market.

You have confused GDC Europe and GamesCom, which are two different events.

Yeah I think TGS is the most liekly event for GT5 release date detials. I wouldn't rule out hearing something bout the game at GDC though.

Yes it is confusing but I meant to say GamesCom.

Ok im confused.

We have:

Tokyo Motor Show
Tokyo Game Show
Gamescon
GDC Europe

and somewere in here theres a 3 hour presentation by sony?

Anyone care to clear up dates/times/presentations go where?

Game Developers Conference Europe (GDC Europe) is 17-19th August in Cologne
GamesCom is 19-23rd August in Cologne

This is basicly the same thing, the GDC is for developers and publishers, like the E3 and the GamesCom is a Convention for the gamers and as far as i have heared the Keynote (the 3 hours) by Kaz Hirai will be held at the GDCE, so somewhere between the 17th and the 19th of August. The 3 hours is just for the whole show including some kind of buffet for the press, so only 1.5h will be spend on really releasing any info on the PS3, PS2, PSP and hopefully GT5.

The Tokyo Gameshow is later this year and the Tokyo Motorshow seems a bit out of place, as far as a possible announcement about GT5 is concerned.

I thought Kaz Hirai was doing the Tokyo game show in September? Or is he doing both?

The bi-annual Tokyo motorshow is not out of place for GT5 at all, last Tokyo motorshow in 2007 gave us tons of details on GT5P which included the release of the GT5P demo. Considering TMS is in october after GT PSP's release, we may just get a lot of GT5 goodness from it.

The 3 hours press conference is on August 18, but the press conference is for the GamesCom and not for the GDC, which makes the whole thing extremely interesting, it could mean that we will see alot of impressive tech stuff.

will it be streamed live somewhere, like they did with E3? Damn i'll be travelling between the 18-19th

I'm positive it will be live blogged somewhere. And G4 may give it live coverage with translators.

Eurogamer alsways had a live blog afaik, but i dont like Eurogamer, they always make stupid jokes and dont take that stuff serious.

We will see, the sites that will have content will notify us for sure. ;)

guys, not related directly to GT5 but check this out.

So the big announcement in Gamescom Cologne will probably be the price cut and the new PS3 model.
All the pieces are slowly starting to come together :dunce: Sony will bundle the new PS3 and GT5 in time for the christmas sales!!! (everybody pray with me now!:nervous:)

Anybody remember this post on the news blog? :)

Before you rejoice too much, Sony came out with an official statement shortly after that saying:

Polyphony are working on GT5, but we cannot confirm a launch date at this point in time.
