There are simply a stupid amount of stupid threads in this section and in an attempt to not add another I will post my question here.

Who is going to buy GT5 twice? Assuming GT5 comes out in Japan first and then later in other countries, will you buy the Japanese copy first till it is out in your country? At what point will you consider it not worth getting the game twice (by this I mean, if GT5 comes out in Japan First week of March then only 3 weeks later in EU/US will you still bother getting 2 copies? Or does a release difference of at least 2-3 months justify purchasing the game twice?)

I will buy the Japanese copy of GT5 unless an english version is out within a month of the Japanese date.

Not me. I'll wait for the EU release of GT5. I did buy GT5P first from the Japanese PSN but once the EU version came out I never played it again, so I'll wait.
Still enjoy playing GT5P and I still play GT4 with my G25. I still believe it'll be worth the wait.

I bought the Japanese version of Prologue and then later bought the U.S. version of it as well. I think the only reason why I bought the Japanese version was that I pretty much truly NEEDED a GT game on the PS3....and I think it was worth it for awhile until it was released in my neck of the woods.

That said, though, I probably will NOT buy the Japanese version of GT5 just to save some money, regardless of when the U.S. and EU games come out. I'll still have prologue to tide me down, and me personally, am looking forward to MW2 to play in the mean time. I'm pretty patient for the most part.

Latest News from Playstation Blog:

31 March 2010 for Japan. American and European release date will be announced later.

More than likely yes, but there is not a confirmed day for release anywhere on that site. Also has nothing to do with the euro & U.S.A release schedule :nervous:.

TGS details here.

Go to attendance info in at the top, then TGS forum.

Like the others, I did buy the Japanese Prologue, because the US version was three months later, I believe, and we didn't even know if there would be a version for the rest of the world. However with GT5, I'm still enjoying GT4 and Prologue, plus it will be fun to toot around in FW3 for a few months. On top of those, I have at least three games I'm looking forward to, especially Ratchet & Clank and Uncharted, and have several PS3 and PS2 games I haven't finished because of GT4 and Prologue addiction. All are great games and all will be getting some love this fall.

There is one thing that will have me importing though, and that's an awesome Special Edition.

I'll buy both either way. GT5 is a racing game, it's not a RPG so in my opinion, you'll enjoy the game just as much even if you don't understand much. I imported the japanese version of Prologue since it was out in december and any fans would know the menu by heart and even if not, you'll have pictures and translations posted on this board in no time! I guess I'm a bit too crazy but it also depends on when they'll announce release date for the other regions then obviously if the gap is small or (the same?) then sure, it'd be silly to do so.

they can release in US anytime they want. ifs its 1 week after japan, i'll buy from play asia just like i did with prolog.

b

ps sony screw you for screwing us

One thing to keep in mind, for those who want to jump online is that the lag might be atrocious, especially in Europe. I remember having some very bad experiences online with my Japanese Prologue. Still, most of my racing was offline, and my brother married a girl from Japan, so she could translate my menus for me, but I'm thinking the best thing is to wait for the US release.

Then again, if the US release is six months later... never mind, I'll import.

Here's my experience/advice:

I bought japanese version of GT5 Prologue from playasia.com because I just couldn't wait.. It was cool at first because I could finally play in high def :sly: BUT there were significant down sides:

Screen navigation was cumbersome because the prologue menus were new.
Tuning was very confusing because you have to rely on website translations.
(btw thanks gtplanet 👍 )
Also, game stores will NOT buy back japanese titles.

Basically the game becomes very limited.
I wish I waited the extra month for the english version!

Do you think guys by the time its out in USA in Fall 2010 and especially in Europe in the December 2010 , the game will be considered obsolete since next gen console are already near by 2010? and the rosters of cars will be considered old since 2011 cars are also near? And can we actually call this GT6 heheh!

I know they target full capability of ps3 but i hope it will not take that long for us in the West and Europe. I think we can kiss goodbye to march 2010 launch for this game since GOW3 will also launch on that date. Worse scenario we might even still see this game in the next E3 being demo (Damn it took that long imagine that or much worse TGS 2010)

You know guys March could have been okay for me but the problem is its only for the Japanese, it should have been world wide, developers of today in th west can actually do worldwide launch i don't know why Japanese developers is so backward that they need another 3-6 months to launch a West version and worse PAL version takes almost 9 months - 1 year.

Honestly guys whether we like it or not many racing enthusiast and car aficionados will be tempted to buy Forza 3 and a xbox 360 because it also have new cars and also it is a simulation. The anger of most racing fans kinda help forza 3 to make more sale. i think Sony should update GT5P or give us a PSN demo.

PS4 and the next MS iteration are several years away at least. Won't get anything before 2014.

In that comparison I am extremelly surprised that visuals were given away to Forza 3. But the second post above, this is no time to make comparisons.

I'm not surprised. Sterile Tokyo track can't fight against that wonderful mountain track of F3.

Tokyo is an excellent race track and will most likely be one of the demo tracks, if indeed there is more than one.

I would never call any GT city track excellent, excluding Citta Di Aria. For me, the reason is the lack of natural flow from curve to curve, lack of vertical changes, lot of 90° corners and barriers everywhere. I prefer natural circuits too, I would take Midfield instead of R234 anytime.

Most city tracks in real life primarily are right angle bends and barriers everywhere.

But let us hope that there will be no more further delay for the USA version and especially PAL version who is always a victim of long delays from past GT games or any games, our friends in Europe. i hope they show more respect the Europe which has been there biggest fan as always. Not so late like Fall or December 2010, that is so lame. It is a nightmare scenario if we see this game declared as a launch game for ps4 upgraded to 3D and 2X 1080p.

But the bad thing is we might even see this game again still being demoed on the next E3 2010 again. That long is so painful. Three E3 had past and still the game being demoed.

Not necessarily, E3 is June. Japan release is March. I don't see any reason why a global release isn't possible, or at worst within a month of each other. Presuming the different versions are actually the same game.

I do hope that it won't reach E3 2010 before it is launch. From PD history they are not capable of doing a global launch just like most Japanese developers that is why they are very much left out by the west in terms of game development.
