GT5 looks better than this GT6 Demo

@ newbielives

What kind of TV are you using?

One of the things I keep hearing, is people with certain TVs see a lower frame rate, colors, ect. If your TV doesn't even run full 1080p, then this could also be a issue. Just saying, it sounds like a personal problem (no pun intended).

Even a friend of mine was complaining about some of the same things last night. His problem was that his TV only runs 720p. When he played it on his living room TV in full 1080p, he said it was fine.

Certain TVs see a lower framerate? No. Also I have a 1080p TV and still see a ton of Aliasing on the track.

By this logic you could be using sprite graphics and run Folding@Home in the background and be bringing the PS3 to the very limits.

Either GT5 was optimal and GT6 isn't a step up, or GT6 is an improvement and GT5 was sub-optimal.

Maybe they both use all the processing cycles and memory available, but if one does so in an inefficient manner it's hardly "bringing it to the very limits".

The limits are reached in both cases, so yes, that is bringing it to the very limits. The key word is "PS3", because that is what was brought to the limits. The hardware doesn't care what you're using it for, it just knows when it hasn't got more to give.

Oh boy, another rant thread what a suprise!
A word of advice or haters of the demo that has only been out for a little over 24 hours-IT IS JUST A DEMO :dunce:. Wait for the full game, then express your thoughts. This is definitely what I'm doing...
Btw, I completely disagree with the OP 👎. Loading times are faster, the physics are profoundly different, and the tracks/cars look slightly more realistic (tracks especially).

Edit: agree with ninja poster above 👍

This. GT5 looks better than GT6... Now THAT I highly disagree. OP, I'm really hoping you're not looking for pretty graphics like next gen, because that's not going to happen since GT6 is on PS3, that's impossible.

I completely disagree. Watching a GT5 replay is horrible. Shadows flicker all over the car, the color saturation feels very wrong and the movement of the suspension kills any belief that this could be real.

Excatly. Proof that GT6 clearly looks and is better than GT5, period.

Your video proves my point. Maybe its the paint used on the cars, but in GT5 there is a metallic coating where GT6 demo is flat and almost too reflective.

I actually think GT6 simulates metallic paint far better than in GT5. In the GT5 part of the video you can see that the paint just gets blown out completely any time the light gets even near it. I always thought that it made the cars in GT5 look a little flat and boring, and why in certain lighting conditions Forza 4 just creams it in terms of paint rendering.

In GT6, because of the higher dynamic range there's more detail in brightly-lit areas, so now you get just a slight sheen on the paint when it is lit, which is bang on what metallic paint is supposed to look like. The reflections in the paint on the bits that are in the shade are also improved and overall the game just looks better-polished and far more presentable.

Spot on:tup:

I think GT6 looks better. Theer are shader effects missing in GT5. The cars look better, in reall ife cars are very shiny if they are clean and polished out. The glossy ones, but there are also matte ones.

Has somebody made any observations yet what it looks like when you've got tyre marks on the road at the entrance to a tunnel, like at Grand Valley?

In GT5, those tyre marks are actually shimmering white in the right/wrong light. Looks freakishly wrong.

Is this maybe gone now...?

I think I am seeing something with the GT6 demo, but not 100% sure. Comparing the GT5 and the demo side by side, it looks to me that the demo has implemented a sort of camera focus effect. The Car and immediate track surroundings look super clear, but the background seems more blurred than before. Look off in the distance while playing. Logos on signs are more blurred.

Two things:
1. Am I really seeing that. Did anyone else notice this.
2. I think this may be one of the ways that PD is using to maximize the limits of the PS3? Sacrifice in the background areas to make room for additional programming in other areas? Just speculation.

How can a surface be flat and too reflective? Bear in mind that flat can be ascribed to colour as a descriptive quality - in that context your comment just doesn't make sense...

Someone agrees with me 👍

These haters hated GT6 before the demo was even available and they are hating the full game before release. These people will hate Every GT and will express so until PD stops making GT games and even then they will hate the GT Games claiming they are fans of GT.

...and the cycle will continue upon GT7's release

The replays looked really cool in my opinion, maybe you're just looking really hard for excuses to move to Forza with the rest of your friends?

Haha, just a hunch.

This + there is a definite refinement to the circuits compared to GT5; the surroundings look a bit sharper and less PS2-ish like some of the circuits do in GT5 (Laguna Seca being the worst of them all there).

Also with regards to the cars, i remember a lot of the cars in GT5 having a dull grayish tone, and with the new ones being slightly more colourful and shiny i like them better. The ones in Forza also look stunning so i don't object if PD go along that route.

I personally thought The GT6 demo looked a lot better than GT5 in 1080p. It was much sharper, and the tracks had more attention to detail, as did the cars. And the replays were great!

What else besides graphics? The physics, that are not hugely different? Unless you are not blind it is o.k.

If you think the physics are no different then either you havent played gt5 or havent played gt6.

The physics aren't hugely different. They're different and certainly better but they're not a huge difference. If they were it'd take a lot longer to get used to them but already people are driving fastest in the TT using the same driving style from GT5 and last years GTA.

Ok I read it wrong I was under the impression he said they weren't different st all my mistake.

I was never impress with GT Academy Competition demo......previous or current demo. I think you mean replay doesn't look photo realistic but when the final game comes out, I'm positive it will look as or good sligthly better than GT5.

I really think GT6 looks better than GT5, just the colors are a bit, a tiny bit too saturated. But the replays are stunning now!

First, this is just for competition sake.

AI cars will be added, crowds most 2D, graphics improvement, AI, sounds etcc the whole game will be released later this year with many improvements from this version.

Even at the current stage it is looks more beautiful. Adding final touches it will look amazing

I agree. GT5 makes it look like there's a clear coat on top of the paint (i.e. 2 layers), whereas GT6 looks like they simply made the base coat look shiny without a clear coat.

In other words, the paint had depth in GT5 and it looks flat in GT6.

Completely disagree.

If they had more cars in GT6 demo than GT5 I'd be playing GT6 demo more than my GT5.

and it's outrageous that you're comparing a beta to the real game. We are still 5-6 months away from release.
do you not remember GT5 Academy in 2010??? it was terrible (imo), very bland. but the real game was just so much better... wasnt perfect but 10x better than GT Academy

The video comparing Autumn ring is bad because you're comparing a touched up GT4 port track with a newly done version, rather than one of the freshly made GT5 tracks like Nurburgring or Spa. I think GT6 has some pretty obvious graphical issues, especially with aliasing in the distance, aswell as looking a bit oversaturated (like Forza) and big FPS drop issues.

I just came from playing GT6 where every time my ghost passed me the FPS dropped through the floor, trying to work out how to turn off the ghost so it doesn't ruin my run every time.

One of the last things to happen before any game releases is optimization of the code/ graphics/ lighting, so it wouldn't surprise me if we see an improvement for GT6, as there are still a few months left 'till it releases.

GT5 was not a bad game by any means, it lacked content, only bad aspects of GT5 were the sounds and AI, standard cars were better than having 200 cars in the game, if GT6 fixes the Ai and sounds, and makes the GT Mode like GT4, GT6 will be an amazing game, the physics are amazing, to all the people saying "it's like GT5" of course it's similar, what did you expect? the sun effects in GT6 are flawless. i enjoyed GT5 a lot, the low amount of A-Spec races was my biggest problem, People saying it's like GT5 obviously didn't play two GT's on the same console.

I'm actually going to have a agree on the cars. It does look a bit too saturated and less natural with the paint. I always favored GT5's look over Forza cause Forza seem too saturated and colorful, and now it looks like GT6 is heading in that direction?

Perhaps I'll get used to it. No doubt, there are better reflections and light refractions, but there something about the color and such that some are mentioning here.

You forgot the 800 Skylines, Spuras and god knows the Miatas.
Also left out half-assed attempts at a course creator, Nascar, WRC, etc.

Just saying though.

For the part in bold see one thing I want people to understand is GT3 came out when PS2 basically launched so really when we got that game people possibly knew what the deal was, but more or less at that time they could succeed because they were the first Racer especially simulation racer on the market.

But on PS3 GT5 came out in Late 2010 this is 4 years removed from launch of PS3 and not only that no matter if you like Arcade Racers/Simulation Racers a lot of games have come by that are Racing Games, and have had the same features GT5 was putting out there.

In fact I'll say it again GT5 is like Iphone right now always blowing out smoke about new features when in fact it's extremely old, or has been seen before.
