that's why the DeLorean had rear engine, but DeLorean was the idiot that swapped out the awesome Citroen Wankel rotary engine for a crappy Renault V6. I mean...who swaps a Wankel engine for a Renault V6. That's literally like trading your RX-8 for a Renault Megane.

The DeLorean had a Mid mounted engine because it was a Lotus esprit under its fancy rust proof skin

Have you guys seen the video of the DeLorean w/the wankel engine? It's pretty friggin' sweet. Some guy gave his D the engine it always deserved.

Anyway back on topic, thought these should be in the list as seen some footage of them in GT5, I will try and find it again and post it on here.

153: Ford RS200 '84
154: Ford RS200 Rally Car '85
The RS200 Rally was one of my fave cars in GT4,Here's hoping its premium..

I beleive they were designed by the same guy. Or at least he worked for/owned Bertone which designed the Countach and Italdesign that designed the DeLorean.

No, the Countach was designed by Marcello Gandini whilst working at Bertone and the DeLorean was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro who also previously worked at Bertone but set up his own studio ( Italdesign ) where he designed the DeLorean.

No, the DeLorean is rear-engined and isn't based on the Lotus Esprit, both cars were designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign though and I think ( not sure ) Lotus did have something to do with the development of the DeLorean.

And I agree with Dan that the older Countach ( the LP400 ) looks much better than the Anniversary edition ( which bodykit was designed by Horacio Pagani by the way, long before he build the Zonda ) and if you think any Countach looks like the DeLorean you might need glasses.:)

The Delorean is built around a Lotus-esque steel backbone chassis, with the caveat being that it is rear engined instead of mid-engined.

Yep, I would call this rear-engined as the engine is placed behind the rear axle.

Whilst the chassis design was similar to the Esprit it didn't stop the Delorean being utterly rubbish, I can imagine Colin Chapman needed huge bags of cash to work on a "sports" car that had 2 bodies!

Quote below from the Delorean museum website

"The entire car was deemed to require almost complete re-engineering, which was turned over to engineer Colin Chapman, founder and owner of Lotus. Chapman replaced most of the unproven material and manufacturing techniques with those currently being employed by Lotus. The Backbone chassis is very similar to the Lotus Esprit, and the underbody was manufactured using vacuum assisted resin injection (VARI), a process licensed from Lotus.. The original Giorgetto Giugiaro body design was left mostly intact, as were the distinctive stainless steel outer skin panels and gull-wing doors."

I always assumed this car was just an irrelevant one-man's obsession ( and part of this man's fall from grace ), an oddity only famous for its role in "Back to the future" and the unpainted stainless steel body with its gullwing doors.
It was perhaps almost destined to be rubbish, an amusing footnote in car history with a strange story encompassing Cocaïne deals, CIA or FBI, a Northern Ireland factory in the midst of political turmoil and poor old Chapman caught somewhere in the middle.
It did even inspire Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys to make a concept music-album about this whole saga with a new band Neon Neon called "Stainless Style".

But I did find the DMC-12 quite fun to drive in GT4, probably because of that rear-engine and poor balance.:)

I didn't know about that album 👍 Although the car was rubbish it will always be cool  it does go to show though that you can polish a turd but in this case you have to use baby oil :D

Someone else has listened to that album?!

👍

I imagine this thread will need an update, either in a few hours, or definitely by tomorrow evening.

It would be a million times easier to update this list and keep up with the news if people if people just posted new cars rather than discussing what cars they want or comparing cars or discussing the history of cars or posting links to videos and music that have almost nothing to do with cars or Gran Turismo, and everything else that has absolutely nothing to do with the point of this thread and simply clutters the damn thing up.

^ Which is why I was saying a couple of pages back, we need a different thread where people are actually allowed to talk about what cars they want, or the history of cars etc.

There are, were, plenty of those but they seem to get shut down quite often.

It probably will, it was in GT4. Does anyone remember how much HP it had?

Original car was 130-136hp but the one in the game was a "Stage II" DeLorean with 197hp. They basically take the stock PRV V6 and upgrade it with better cams, cylinder heads (wtv the hell that means!), an upgraded ignition system, a free-flowing exhaust and maybe some other things.

Yeah 197 looks familiar
Sorry for double posting.
