Eiger is fun but a big problem for me that track have very "light", don't know how call it - barriers (for not going out of track) - but car hits it like in stone wall, i even don't say that you cant go out of track...those barriers are so...

(aghhh!my english, again!)

Yeah invisible walls. How can a small tape barrier stop any car lol. Hopefully now we have moveable objects on track it might be a bit better. I remember grand canyon was awful for that.

I guess Kaz just doesn't want people driving off the course and across the terrain. So, they have to put an invisible barrier somewhere - better to put it where there is actually a barrier, even if it is a weak one.

I found a picture from PD studio/racing site and it seems to depict a track editor in GT5.

It doesn't look anything like ModNation Racers to me, based on my time with public beta and I have a hard time believing that picture is actually from GT5.

I'm talking about the track geometry, everything else is cosmetic...
The track will change appearance based on the time of day and lighting
Trees and grass change over time and seasons, curbs get scuffed etc

pretty amazing, since it's all done by hand and not laser scanned

And I suspect the graffiti probably changes over time as well...

If you are talking about track geometry, why did you say "GT5 --> Real, except for the writing"? This implies that you think GT5 looks better than reality, except for the writing...

If you really are talking about just the track geometry, how can GT5 be "better"? It's either the same, or its not. Beyond that it's just pure opinion.

:odd:

I thought that the reason the real world tracks were so close to reality was that they had all been laser scanned and were accurate to within 1/4 of an inch . . . please correct me if I'm wrong.

Simple answer, no. Iracing on the other hand does have laser scanned tracks accurate to the millimetre including bumps. It's not a game though and it costs a fortune so if you try don't be dissapointed.

"--->" = arrow

it means, this is GT5, and this is real :grumpy:

PD measures the tracks by hand and survey tools, they don't use a laser scanner to plot points. And scanning the Ring would not be feasible :)
Can you imagine the size of point data?!

The tracks in iRacing are scanned so they are accurate, but I think it's a lot of hype as far as the precision of the surface details go. Laguna Seca is 130mb on my hard drive. If it were accurate down to mm as far as surface bumps go, I would think it would be far larger than that and my 2 gig PC would not even run it! I dabble in 3D rendering and laser scanned 1 million+ poly models I have are way bigger than 130megs...
Silverstone 140mb, Daytona 116mb, Sonoma 99mb

PD for sure can't spare 130 megs on track data alone though. Since the PS3 only has 256 megs to use for system data

They measure them but they don't scan them. There's a big difference in the two methods of using laser equiptment. They don't get on thier hands and knees with rulers and protractors and measure the track that way. But laser scanning is an altogether different thing than measuring using lasers or any other type of electrical measuring equiptment.

The tracks are pretty accurate in layout and they did say that the Ring was within 1/4 inch all the way round. However that's thats talking about the layour of the track, the width, the corners radius, elevation changes etc. The real detail in a track is how accurate you get within that 1/4 inch, that's the surface detail, and while GT4 did a very good job compared to other games, iRacing's tracks are better in this regard as they are laser scanned. They still arn't totally accurate as no home PC would run such a model, but they are widely regarded as the current benchmark.

Are you sure? Because back when the TT Demo came out people noticed that back stretch of Indy was much much shorter in Iracing than in the GT5 TT Demo. Someone's wrong.

just a thought...since GT5 has the proper Super Gt license...tracks like Twin Ring Motegi and Okayama will likely to appear in the final game, no? Sorry if speculations like these are said before...but I just can't wait to play a proper, full super gt season with 80% of those real tracks available...it will not make sense to have only 20 circuits, I guess.

I'm feeling these license agreements (Super GT, WRC, NASCAR) are for cars only...
So I doubt about the tracks of these series, especially WRC...

Actually the license agreements basically gets them logos. They have to get a separate license for each team in order to use the cars.

I would assume they wold be including at least 2 WRC tracks or PD is just wasting money on the license since they have had all the major rally cars in past games(minus Skoda).

Not specifically, while you often can license race cars from a team sperate to a series, when you licence a series you sometimes license the works (manufacturer) backed teams signed up to that series. Many of the higher tier motorsports such as the WRC and FIA GT championships will require each of the manufacturer backed teams to allow the series the rights to use the entered car and it's representation in any associated deals or as they see fit. So if you were BMW and you wanted to enter the BMW M3 GTR into the FIA GT1 series for example, part of the contract you sign to enter the series will say that the series board or owner whichever it may be have a right to use your car so the could license you're car out as part of an FIA GT1 series license. In some cases they may even require the exclusive right meaning that the manufactuer cannot license their own car out themselves. Private teams are a loophole as no race series can make a private team sign over rights to a car they don't have the rights to, but then you would still need a license from the manufactrer as well as the team to represent that car.

This isn't always the case, it depends on the series in question and what they require upon entry but it's common within the higher ends of motorsport.

Motegi (in all its configurations) has been in GT before so I'd be a little surprised if it wasn't back for GT5. Okayama would be making its debut, and I don't know that they'd put it in at the expense of a more famous circuit from elsewhere in the world.

PD have held the license since GT2 or GT3, it's not new. In GT2 they had the cars and the GT300 and GT500 events, in GT3 and GT4 it was the All Japan Super GT championship, this is what it was called before being re-branded into the Super GT. It's only the first time we're seeing the Super GT championship in Gran Turismo now because it's only become the Super GT since GT4. It has been in GT in other guises since GT2 though.

thanks for clearing that up, guys. 👍 I really hope they will have a proper SuperGT season in GT5, with proper tracks...I am a big fan of SuperGT...

Am i the only person who is going to do Star In A Reasonably Priced Car as soon as i get GT5?

Nope!

Thats one of the first things I'm going to try! Going to try a lot of the cars from the lapboard actually.

See if I can knock the Gumpert off the top.

I cant wait. I just wish that you can make your own boards so that you can have:
1 Board for power laps
1 Board for SIARPC
1 Board for Hot hatches
1 Board for.....etc.
I dislike the idea that you cant delete or rename any of the entries that were in time trial in GT5P
