It's not a fixed course.
Tracks without layouts on the selection screen (but instead, with a "generic" theme thumbnail) are randomly generated.

Am I the only one who thinks that certain tracks in the game could have been axed for some slightly better offerings?

In my opinion, TG Test Track should have been axed in favor of a more practical real world course. That track is of such little interest to me, I don't think I'll EVER race on it voluntarily. Be honest guys, wouldn't it have been better if Motegi, Silverstone, Talladega, Texas, or hell, even El Capitan could have made it in?

And then theres the rally tracks. I realize theres alot of Rally fans out there, but personally I don't really get the point of rallying. I don't quantify it as a form of racing. Thats just me. I respect the hell out of it, but I really don't feel like it has a place in a circuit racing game. With that said, I think PD would have been well-served by axing the 4 rally venues in favor of 4 traditonal circuits.

But hey, thats just me. What do you guys think?

It's hard to get everybody to agree what tracks should be in, some like more real world courses, others like more original courses. I think Kaz has tried to find a balance.
My own disappointment was the loss of some original courses, but thats just par for the course. ;)

I missed that one.:ouch:

Yea, rallying is OK. Not the reason I bought the game by a long shot. I definitely would've rather seen fewer rally tracks (Course Maker to me looks really good for making point to point rally courses) in lieu of Motegi, Midfield and Apricot Hill, but the game is the game. Can't change it now.

Trivia question: which Gran Turismo had the most tracks (not including reverse and variations, etc.)? Was it GT4?

Yup. I saw someone else streaming a video of the same event, and it was actually a very short oval-like course...

I'm sure almost everyone believes that certain tracks should be axed for better offerings. However almost everyone is going to disagree on what tracks to axe and what ones to add. I wouldn't cut a single rally track (not sure how you can respect it but not consider it racing). I wouldn't cut the top gear track; it'll be a great time trial track. I would cut Daytona and Indy and replace it with Spa and Tremblant. I'd probably cut Monza in favour of Mugello. I'm sure many people would absolutely hate those changes. GT5 has a fairly wide assortment of tracks which won't make everyone happy but there should be something there for just about everyone.

Worst would be if tracks were wasted with 2 NASCAR tracks instead of just one, which is already one too many

False. Both ovals have functional circuits inside of them. You can't have too many NASCAR tracks IMO. You should try them when you buy the game, you might (gasp!) that you actually like them!

I think of rallying and racing as separate concepts. You really don't "race" anyone in a traditional sense in a rally. But everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

Also, Monza is far better than Mugello.

I disagree. I much prefer Mugello. But that IS my point. Everyone is going to disagree to some extent. Ask 10 people to produce a track list that they would like to see in the game and you will get 10 different track lists.

This is so true, the same thing happened with the car list to an ever greater extent. I think most people were disapointed with the car list, myself included. However just look at the 'Most Desired Cars Ranking - Polyphony look here!' thread, when I last looked after about 300 votes the most requested car only had 15ish votes!

So looking at the list of tracks, PD seem to have done a great job of including 'something for everyone', no an easy task!

Definitely. Excluding variations, there were about 40 unrelated courses.

GT4 is number one in track variety then I believe GT2 would slightly edge out GT3. I think GT3 had more tracks excluded than it added on its own.

Still, I find strange that PD already put everything on the table.
Could that really be the final and definitive track list?
Is there really no more to be discovered in GT5?

By the way, they counted Eiger Nordwand, both dirt and road layouts, as a single track location.
In my list (visible in the opening post of this thread) they are "separate" because they are of different categories.

I wondering if they did, this was one of the themes from the Course Maker that I am not sure is it missing?

Also after looking at some of the videos that where posted on IGN website, some of the shots that I thought where of a different track are of a portion of the track beyond turn 1 tunnel that I clearly see now, but these two last shots I can't see a location that matches these picture. With better video will clear it up.

Sorry but how can we complete the Grand Tour special event if we haven't Bern, s.Gimignano, Galgano and piazza del campo???

We have Bern and Piazza del Campo as Photo Travel locations so it might have something to do with that. Just taking pictures of your car and moving on to next location or something. Doubt there will be races in those locations when there are no tracks for it.

There appears to be a 'racing' event inbetween Siena and Sal Gimignano, so there's hope for Piazza Del Campo, unless there are 2 Toscana variations. I think it's a shame that similar tracks couldn't be erected in places like Bern, it makes me wonder what the point of all the race cars lined up to race were for in the E3 09 trailer.

This doesn't appear to be a known course maker theme.

These are both from the new Special Stage Route 5.

I think it might get unlocked at higher levels or with a patch at a later time.
For example, the Remote Race feature will be made available in December.

I don't really think that the current official track list is final.

Compared with previous versions of GT, it's a bit strange to have all tracks unlocked from the start. I think there might still be a few more surprises to be found at higher levels that haven't been unlocked.
