This is something that has been bothering me for awhile. Remember when PD had to go over to a new console with GT3? All we got was newer models and better graphics and physics. Now, We go over to the PS3. I think GT5 might end up the same. Fewer than 300 cars and a few tracks. What do you think?

Unlikely because GT5 has been a long time in development. GT3 came out 1-2 years after GT2. Conversely it will be what, 4-5 years by the time GT5 comes out, plenty of time for development. I am not worried about the content of GT5, it will almost certainly be bigger than GT3 was by quite a margin.

I dont expect much more than 300, never did.
But i could imagine more, since we already have over 80 cars when you count the 74 from GT5P plus the cars from the different trailers that didnt make it into Prologue, plus the cars from GTHD Concept, plus some other cars shown.

I expect almost the same number of tracks as in GT4 though, maybe +/- 5.

Gran turismo 2 (1999) -> Gran turismo 3 (2001) 2 years.
Gran turismo 4 (2004) -> Gran turismo 5 (2009?) 5 years.

Enough said.

When PD moved to the PS2 GT3 had only 150 cars. I'm afraid that GT5 may suffer the same fate of a critically low amount of cars because of moving over to a new console.

Would be a farce if they did that again considering how much longer they've to develop the game.

It's all good, lower expectations will always mean you will be happier when it comes.

We already have 70+ cars and 6 locales. They were awfully quick to give us some of the newest content to the GT franchise. Daytona, London, a re-paved Eiger, a new HSR. Even Fuji and Suzuka are significantly improved over GT4. Then there's the cars. We have the C6 Z06, Viper SRT10, The new M3, then R35 GT-R. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention we have most of the current lineup from Modena.

If they're willing to give us all of that in Prologue (now that we know that prologue isn't going to be expanding as much as we might have originally thought), I for one am excited for what they're potentially holding back on us.

Consider this... everything we have now, except for HSR and Fuji, will be outdated by the time Mo5 hits. There's supposed to be a longer version of Eiger and London. Suzuka is due to reopen next month after major renovations to update it to host the 2010 Japanese F1 GP. Daytona has been updated over what we currently have. Every car we have should be replaced or updated by then as well. ZR1, Viper ACR, the F430 replacement, complete with the same transmission as the Cali, GT-R V spec. There so much more to come from cars we already have.

You're just getting anxious.

but im serious, yk said we can expect every car from GT4, and i read GT5 will have 900+, have i just not been paying attention? did someone say we are going to get around 300 cars and a few tracks ?? 5 years of development ment eh. GT4 managed 700 cars 50 tracks, prologue managed a tenth of that, and prologue was just a demo

Suzuka is getting RENNOVATIONS not a whole new thing, the ZR-1, ACR and GTR spec V i don't see going in GT5 cause of the GT concepts and the unnecessary fact of having 2 GTR's that are only different with weight and an inch of hp. And by the way, suzuka is hosting this year.

It's a racing game.

What else is there to improve?

AI I guess, but I would throw that in with physics.

HAHA exactly!

AI and maybe damage (at least internal) plus we need body kits and livery editor to make GT5 a step up.

We are talking about Gran Turismo here, when has slightly different GTR's means they wont include it? I would bet good money on they will include the Spec V, it's easy to include, PD had their hands in GTR development, KY likes the GTR, PD have extremely good access to these cars anytime.

Renovations or rebuild, Suzuka will be different in some way, just like Daytona Road. Minor changes matter. Especially with the level of Detail in GT. I gotta be able to see the supercharger on the ZR1 through the hood window. There are unique aero parts for every one of those cars. Carbon ceramic brakes look different from metal ones. Those cars will be there, and they will add to GT5's car count quite quickly.

My point being that most everything we have now will no longer be the most current spec when the full game comes. So count up the 70 cars we have, and add at least another 50 replacement or alternate models of those 70 cars. There are also a lot of perennial favorites (cars and tracks) yet to be seen. Miatas and RX-7s new and old, Supras and Mitsu GTOs. Older Vettes too (we have two models of Viper)

Just think of the manufactures we have now, and how many more cars we will get just from their model lineups, current and past. Mercedes, BMW and Audi. There are other Astons and Jaguars to be had. Toyota, Mazda, Ford, Chevrolet. Getting to the kind of car count GT4 had should be no problem. They've been working on this for a loooong time now.

i really think that there is no car (aside from porsches) that are out of pd's hands. now, the problem is with the whole 900 cars thing is... are they going to put 700 lancer evolutions, 100 nissan skylines, 50 honda civics, and leave the rest of the companies to fight out the remaining 50 spots? they better diversify here... having a whole bunch of the same car is just stupid. if pd does make 900 completely different car models and put them in gt5, it is worth every dollar/euro/pound/yen/whatever they charge for it.

So... GT5 just may be all that. (are you listening, ky?)

well yes, I think GT5 is going to be well below our expectation--mine anyway. I'm not hearing talk of weather, and who knows what they mean by 'adding damage.' I'm seeing a lousy online system and no serious attempts to fix it. I see the most painful menu system of the series. and I see a demo forcing me to drive cars I don't want to drive to unlock safe online racing. ...at least there aren't any idiot licenses yet.

This game has been in the works for at least 3 years--probably longer. I don't think it's going to feel like something that's taken that long. but I'm a racing fan, and a ps3 owner, so this is what I get--and for what its worth I hope I'm totally wrong.

Yes, and by the way, i've beaten prologue and i have all of the GOOD cars.
In that case, why did you bother to make this thread? Oh, and what difference does it make what cars you have?

Look, it's simple really - if you don't want to bother with GT5 when it finally releases, that's up to you. I'm looking forward to it, and even if it's just Prologue with loads more cars and tracks, I'll be happy.

Well if you have a look at the master car list, it shows around 160 cars, confirmed as rendered in HD. Now prologue added about 90 or so to that list, even so most of the other cars were spotted in screen shots before prologue was out. There has plenty of time since then to model a fair amount of cars. Then of course its entirely possible that we haven't seen half the cars that have been made. So I wouldn't get too gloomy yet. Likewise I'm not getting optimistic. Hoping for a thousand cars is unrealistic IMO.

When have we heard talk of anything about GT5? Everything we know about GT5 is either speculation, or is assumed to be there because it's in prologue. They haven't really announced anything for GT5. The only thing we have to go off of is a screenshot of KY at a press conference, showing the features he wanted to implement into I think prologue, or Vision Gran Turismo at the time.

Other than that, nothing has been announced or confirmed from PD.....and I mean NOTHING. No one knows how many cars there will be. No one knows for SURE if we're getting damage, even though KY said it was coming, but we know what technical difficulties can arise involving that. No one has mentioned weather, or what type of tuning options we will have.

Fact of the matter is, we won't know, probably until either next week at GDC, or E3....and I'm hoping Amar can let us know soon because I'm assuming, he knows about a lot of the things I just mentioned, but I don't know that for sure either.

I know you all want to think that GT5 will have 900+ cars and 100+ tracks, but i think that GT5 will suffer by being limited to only a few cars and tracks. Don't get me wrong, i want it to have a lot of cars and tracks, but i'm taking this from GT's history.

No you have been very short sighted in your reasoning. GT2-GT3 2 years. GT4-GT5 5 years (+)

On that basis alone I would expect GT5 to be considerably bigger than GT3. Also note that we have over 160 cars confirmed already, many of these before the release of HD even. Sure it might not quite be GT4 in size, but it will be more than a few cars and a few tracks.

The problem is you haven't looked at GT's history in enough detail. ;)

Ok, technically, you could be both wrong, but in different senses.

The former is wrong for not realising the length of time between GT2 and GT3 but the latter may be overlooking the fact that games take even longer to develop nowadays, especially on the graphics side of things.

However, I agree that GT5 will probably have a car range similar in size to GT4, give or take a few, this would be reasonable considering the number of cars we have already or have seen and taking into account the approximate length of time they could have spent modelling them all.

i think ardius's first point is good... we might not get 900 cars, but who the hell would waste the time and effort to buy all of them and actually USE them when half of them are evos, skylines, imprezas, or integras? I hope that GT5 will have about 400 cars, but all will be very detailed, with modifications galore and a damage modeling system akin to that of GRID. or at least something close to that...

Frankly, I'd buy a ton of them. In my GT4 garage, I have over 400 cars, and some of them are duplicates with different color or spoilers added. I have all the Super GT Supras and Skylines. In civilian cars, I have a whole gob of the Skylines. And I probably have less than half of the car list, and intend to get most of them eventually. Yes, I still play GT4 and love it.

As for GT5, I'm not sure just how many cars will be in, but 400 plus isn't unreasonable. What I'm much more anxious about is for Kaz and the lads to include all the tracks from all versions of Gran Turismo, and many new tracks besides.

I'm one of those who expects GT5 to be all that, and more. I think we're going to be pleasantly surprised.

what the heck is prologue there for then? I just figure it's the current physics engine + most of the features. but minus some tracks, cars and novelty modes.

I guess the short of it is that I don't like prologue at all. and this is my 'taste of what's to come?'
I don't mean to get down on the game, but I'm having serious doubts. once I goot done ooh-ing over the graphics, all prologue did was annoy me.
