PS - the OP said something about 32 slot private lobbies - is it really true? Wow, that'll be so uber, can you imagine an online endurance race with 32 cars? Just imagine if we can do time-based online races... who would say yes to a yearly 24-hour competition between GT forums? 4-6 drivers a team, winner gets bragging rights for a year. GTP has apparently pulled off LAN parties before, with people travelling great distances to attend, so why couldn't that be done?

I would love to do team endurances and other races but as for the

I would be out, maybe if their is a way like instead of passing control off to BOB you turn it over to another online teammate.

It might be a bit hard to implement, but it would definitely make such an event much easier.
With a livery editor patch, it would be absolutely beyond belief. BTW, in such an eventuality, what would GTP colors be? Darkish red on silver? Black on silver? Black on silver with red trim?

I'll update the list in the first post soon(ish) when I'm either not so busy in work or dig my laptop out from underneath a huge pile of decorating stuff. Good to see people discussing the possibilities on the online racing, fingers crossed the team/clan/tournament support will be in depth.
It's definitely "only" 16 cars on track and although 32 player lobbies has been mentioned I'm still a little unsure if that will be the case but even if it is just 16 player lobby and on track that's still plenty.
If you can find out what Division number you were in I'll add it to your entry on the list even without a GTP_PSN ID. As this is totally separate to the official WRS the divisions are only an indication of an individuals pace which may be useful if you want to arrange a session with people on a similar level.
I'll add D1 silver to your entry but don't blame me if you get duffed up by the current D1 guys

Everyone is now on the list in the first post, it's up to about 360 now!!
I haven't put all the news relating to the online mode in the first post but it's pretty much guaranteed that the host (the persons "My Lounge" you're in) can set parameters for the race.
