Heard a "rumor" that the GT5 online servers are going to be shut down in May (2014) ... basically ending GT5's online worthiness.

Factual, folks?

Thanks.

I guess this is how they are forcing people to buy GT6 huh?

Yes, PD the big bad wolf will be knocking on your door in May, forcing you to buy GT6. And they will also strong arm you into buying online credits as well. :banghead: Really? Forcing people?? You do have a choice you know.

I didn't mean it that way by any means. I have only had my PS3 for like 6 months because I am kinda poor. I bought the GT5 bundle because it was really my entire reason for buying the PS3 in the first place. Now that they are taking away the coolest part of it, I don't really have a choice. I don't have any local friends that would come over to play, and my kids are too young to play. I guess I can look forward to shelling out another $60 if I don't want to race by myself. That gets old after a while, ya know...... This is just a big disappointment is all.

This is a real bummer. I just started racing online a couple of months ago and now it's going away? I guess this is how they are forcing people to buy GT6 huh?

How long were you expecting them to keep the servers up? The game has been out for three years so its hardly "forcing" you to do anything. Pretty sure the amount of people online on GT5 is going down now that content support for it has massively been reduced so unfortunately that's what's happening.

Personally in this day and age I think that a AAA release title with online support should have server support for at least 5 years if the title does well. I don't play online at all really so I am not upset by this but believe their should be a standard. Are there enough people upset by this to start a petition ?

With GT6 out, continued server support of GT5 may only diminish Poly Dig financially in the long run, so it's understandable that they would make the change. However, it would be nice if they converted the seasonals to A-Spec in order to keep them operable. It will be interesting to see if GT6 is substantially updated commensurate with the GT5 server closures. It could be the carrot, so to speak, that pushes the holdouts over.

They should update GT6 online to be at least as good as GT5 before they destroy the GT5 online community.

How hard is it to add shuffle racing to GT6, or show you the PP level of a room you are thinking about joining, really?

Looks that way. I won't be racing GT6 like I do GT5. Maybe if they update the races and retain the up to 200 points like GT4 had!

I do hope they allow us to buy restoration coupons before GT5 online goes away. I would buy for my 3 ID's as much as $150 worth at 10/$1.

PD. You listening? Or maybe let us buy more cars with zero miles that we don't have before going away...

Afterall, you guys are in it for the money.

I cant see why they don't add all the stuff they have done to a spare disc. Then we can buy to retain all the online stuff + the items you mentioned, or at least download the lot to hard drive at the very least? Though I don;t fancy filling up my hard drive to be honest.

It's like this... if you purchase consoles and games designed around online play like PS3/PS4 or GT5/GT6 , you don't really have complete ownership of your gaming experience, you are merely paying admission fee's to the full experience for a limited time like renting. These franchises are not totally useless after the online support is pulled, but since they are designed to be played online, the experience become severely diminished and far less enjoyable. I will not be purchasing GT6 like Big Brother wants me to do. I am perfectly content playing GT4 on my PS2 where I have control over my fun and how many of each car I want to own for as long as I like to enjoy them. I have full ownership of that console and enjoy unfettered access to all of my game saves. I determine when I decide not to play them anymore, not some one else. :)

People now have to shell out more money for downloads if they wish to continue playing a game that they already paid for... shouldn't they get their moneys worth for doing so? At least do something to make purchasing a download more attractive for content that is no longer going to be supported. I would purchase a download if it removed restrictions aimed at "protecting" online play which no longer exist. Let those who paid for the game continue to enjoy playing it after online play has been discontinued, since there is nothing left to "protect". Unlock GT5 and empower players to enjoy the game in new and different ways rather than in severely diminished ways. Totally agree with the previous post.

They did. It's called the XL Edition

Before I pack away old GT titles, I attempt to collect all the cars.
GT5 is the first title I had difficulty collecting cars in my garage.
Since online play is going away, can we trade all the cars now?
Before we can no longer trade anything anymore?
Dare I ask more than 1 item per day?
Or maybe a DL with all of the cars?

What you looking for deora3?

If there was a game save with a full garage, I would gladly play my way all the way back through the entire game in order to have a completed game I can pick up and race fun runs anytime in the coming years. I still play the earlier titles all the time, the older games are more fun and the newer ones more challenging in many small ways.

This may have been asked already, but I didn't see it.

Is there any chance PD will let us download all the DLC cars for free before they take the server down? I mean, they might as well because once the server is down, no one can buy them anyway.

Go to the News section and read the posts. The answers are yes and yes.

Which thread?

The thread "Keep Your Gran Turismo 5 DLC After Online Services Close" doesn't answer my question. It only talks about purchased dlc.

Is there another thread that addresses it?

I think you spelled out the answer for yourself. If you purchased it,you can keep it. If not your outta luck.

So basically, you managed to contradict your own answer. You answered "yes" to my question ... then you followed-up with "if not you outta luck".

I don't think you understood my original question. It wasn't about purchased dlc. But thanks anyway.

If you read this, like I said, you would have your answer.

As announced late last December, Polyphony Digital will be terminating the online services for Gran Turismo 5 on May 30, 2014. Now, the company has shared more information regarding how you can keep using downloadable content (DLC) you may have purchased in the game after this date has passed.

Be sure to review the complete instructions for each DLC pack you own or want to keep.

The DLC items will be removed from the PlayStation Store on April 30, 2014. If you’ve already purchased and installed these DLC packs, they can be downloaded again in the future, with the notable exception of the “Paint Pack” and “Racing Gear Pack”, which cannot be re-installed if your PS3 game data is deleted.

The announcement also confirms the end of the “Gran Turismo TV” service, which has been slowly winding down after Super GT content was pulled at the end of 2012. Distribution of all content will end on May 14, 2014, and the service will be completely taken offline on March 14, 2015.
