GT5 Online Servers Coming Down?

But the Seasonal Events ARE online. It's my understanding that everything online stops.
That's true. I'm hoping, though, that they can provide an update that converts the A-spec seasonal events so that they stay in-game.

I guess my biggest disappointment is 4 people in my family play GT5 and we trade cars very frequently because it makes playing more fun. Now we will not be able to do that anymore even though 3 of us use the same console. I would be happy if people on the same console could still trade cars with each other. It's not about having all the cars for myself, it's about sharing something fun with family members. It's one activity that we enjoy together with each other.

My suggestion is to update up to 2.10 and then you can have any car got want.

... and GT6 eliminates cycling through the UCD, I know, I know.
That change is going to seem a little weird after all of this time.
Collecting cars keeps me playing after completing all the events.

Considering the life collecting/trading gave GT5 and keeping everyone occupied until GT6, I really don't understand PD cutting their own throat like that. Especially given that GT6 brings virtually nothing new to the table, only eliminates what we got used to in GT5. Of course the speculation is that shutting down service for GT5 will open greater support for 6.....but I'm not wholly buying that.

It's on sale for $39.99 today at Best Buy, but I'm going to wait for it to come down even more ... for the reason you mentioned above.

And I have rewards points, so I wouldn't even have to come out of pocket!

I am one who continues to play GT1-4, and no one ever inhibited me.
It feels different this time, because I don't have control over my GT5.
The change to GT6 is coming, maybe it's best for me to just accept it.
I hope playability doesn't get lost in the pursuit of technical gadgetry.

What do you mean, update up to 2.10 and then you can have any car got want.

I think it refers to the feature which lets you "borrow" cars from friends, but that's going away also.

For 5 years I've tolerated restrictions on my game in the interest of "fairness" for online competition.
Now that online competition is moving on to the next title, all these restrictions remain, unlike GT4.
I paid for both games, but I'll likely play GT4 more than GT5 now, because it's much less restrictive.
I can race as many times as I like, win as much money as I like, and acquire whatever cars I like. :)

I've had enough of being told how to play a game I paid for, a big factor whether I buy GT6 or not.
Problems disappear when removing their GT5/GT6 disc and inserting my GT4 disc. Hope they know!
The ability to race live online took away more fun than it added for me, but that could still change.

Isn't it amazing how every time the next "updated" or "upgraded" version of a game comes out ... the players get more restrictions and less control than in the previous game?

More money ... less game. Yeah, that's what we want.

Well I played GT2 like a fiend the first 2 years after it came out, I ended up buying the Music Soundtrack, 2 Playing Guides, 4 Play Stations, 5 different versions of the game, 16 memory cards, 2 Steering Wheels, 2 GT t-shirts, a GT hat and car I liked from the game. For GT5, all I bought was the game and the DLC's. GT2 had to be a much bigger windfall for them than GT5... go figure. GT2 & GT4 are my favorite titles, waiting for something more fun to play than those 2.

Mercifully, GT6 has eliminated the UCD which should not have been in GT in the first place. 👍
I'd rather spend my time playing than hunting for some elusive car needed for just one race.

It sounds like the real problem is you have less disposable income now.

I need to start giving away as many items of mine for free again that I can before this shuts down. I think I still have well over 600 items in my inventory. Just a bummer we are restricted to only giving a few items per day.

How are people uploading recent pics? Were they captured previously and added recently?

You can still take pictures in photo mode or through pausing replays for non-premium cars. Then you can just save them to the PS3 as a picture and then use a USB stick to take it out of the Playstation. That's what I did for my profile pic. It's captured off a replay in practice mode on Tokyo 246.

I have a question for you guys: to keep the dlc you need to download it from the psn and then install it from the game menu or at least that's what the instructions say. The problem is that when I download my dlc again it automatically installs and I cannot re-install it from the game menu. Is it supposed to be like that or am I doing something wrong? Apologies if I sound kind of stupid I just don't want to lose the dlc I bought for the game.

It's my understanding that once you purchase and download, it's yours to keep whether you install it or not. I think I read that it won't be like the PSN, where once you purchase, you can download over and over ... because all GT5 online functions will stop. So you have to make sure you download before May 31.

Your question was a little confusing, though, about re-installing. If it automatically installs, why re-install it?

You can not re-install DLC again if you already have them. As MC5372 is right 👍

I'm just asking because like I said the instructions on the playstation site said to do so and as I said earlier I just want to make sure I'm not doing anything wrong.

No, it sounds like you're ok. If it installs, it's yours for the life of the system.

From the announcement: "If you’ve already purchased and installed these DLC packs, they can be downloaded again in the future, if your PS3 game data is deleted." (except Paint Pack and Racing Gear Pack)

"You will be able to use the items even after the termination of the online services; however, you will NOT be able to install them again if you delete the GT5 Save Data after the online services end."

Cool. So it does stay in your PSN Download List like everything else. Didn't remember if it did or not.

I think I will start a second game just in case my main game becomes corrupted, to retain access to my items. Not one to mess around with game saves but I have frequent power outages due to storms.

I always back mine up to flash drive (before & after playing). That way, you can always do a quick restore if you have to. Thing is, after a restore, you have to re-create most of your car thumbnails. But at least you're backed up.

Good idea... anxious for a Gran Turismo thumb drive with exclusive content to be released. J/K
