GT5 Online Servers Coming Down?

I think the servers shut down for that game due to gamespy servers shutting down in May.

True, but it did last extremely long, and will probably be revived by XLink Kai.

They're sacrificing traditionally popular features of Gran Turismo in order to create a positive online experience. This has had the opposite effect and so they eliminated online play for GT5. More features have been sacrificed for GT6, so simply upgrading is not the answer. The same thing is going to happen again and again until someone realizes that online play needs to be structured to Gran Turismo and not the other way around. Am I the only person who recognizes this? It seems glaringly obvious. How many features of Gran Turismo need to be eliminated before someone has an epiphany?

I couldn't agree more. I LIKED playing GT5. I could leave GT6 alone for a week and not care. I log in daily just to keep my bonus at 200% ... but then I usually just suck my teeth, say "mmph" under my breath, hit Quit Game and go watch a movie or something.
The (GT) thrill is gone.
P.S. I have to get IN the car just to look at it spin around?? Really??

I'm still playing it, despite blatant messages urging me to "upgrade" to GT6.
I've got all 5 GT titles, they're more FUN than GT6 or GT7 or GT8 will ever be.
The handwriting is on the proverbial wall unless online play gets restructured.

When I realized that the prize for 1st place is usually a COLOR and not a car, that pretty much sealed it.

Just a ramble. I knew it was coming, but I put in GT5 yesterday, got the update, the "this service has ended" message and felt sad, the sadness punctuated by the lobby music. I kind of wish they would have at least removed the online garage and community buttons so they're not there as constant reminders of what's no longer available. But I really wish they'd have added more race series to the offline program, as for me that was GT5's biggest issue and what the online series addressed.

Ive deleted gt5 game data Iinstalled to 21/26 and now using garage editor to fill garage with missing cars having alot of fun but it keeps telling me to update..... lol yh okCan't award a car because that might give an unfair advantage

That's what I did also.
A shame they removed the seasonal events, at least they could have left the 200% bonus after seriously severing one of the most important features of this game.
Now with GE I can have some fun collecting all the cars, so it's a shame
My brother gifted me a copy of GT6 but I will not start playing it until I complete 100% the game.
