I voted "none", although i'll probably set ABS to 1 until i find a good load cell for the brake pedal.

I just hope that the lobby admin will have the possibility to set rules, and eventually penalties !

I voted none; but I do leave ABS setting at 1 like most do.

hell I don't mind using a bit of assists. It helps make up for the lack of communication from pedals, g-forces and other minor inputs.

I'll take a little TSM, a little ASM, and probably about all the ABS it will let me use. Racing line really helps me out too, since I sometimes have trouble figuring out which way the road is curving the first bunch of runs on a track--by the time I figure it out, I'm sometimes on the wrong side of the track for it. I'll also do anything to keep the wheel from trying to jerk itself out of my hands and into fishtails. If that means dropping the feedback level, then that's what it means.

Speaking of driving lines, I never like using them the first times I'm on new tracks, I really like exploring. Then after 10 laps or so, I turn it on to get a good grasp of the tracks details, about another 10 laps. Then I turn it off, because it really distracts me from my driving.

I would prefer to keep the settings closer to the real world car, if it's old muscle car then none of the assists, if it was a new car then I would use the assist that are made available to them.

Definitely wouldn't using Drive/Brake line. I would have to vote other.

ABS: Depends on whether I have a pad or a wheel. With the pad I will set it at 1, with the wheel I will most likely set it to off (Though I may consider leaving it on if I get a DFGT. Or get a squash ball...

TCS: Depends on the car. Usually I will try to avoid TCS. If I must use it, never too high, 1 or 2 is sufficient. If I have a wheel I should be able to avoid using it all together as you have more control over the throttle input.

ASM: No.

Driving line: No.

It makes no difference online or offline really.

No driving Line .... (except on the rare occasion that i drive drunk)
No ASM
No TCS
Yes to ABS set at 1 for all the cars (whether i play with the pad or wheel)

Question for grabs:
What's Assist Power Steering???? for two years, i am still clueless about this feature?!
what does it do for you? helpful or tackful like TCS?

TCS - although turned down massively. I can't ride those American cars without.
ABS - Always heavy on the brakes. Bit like Jacky Stewart (full throttle and full brakes)

The racingline will also be on, I hope they implement the Forza 3 line of just braking + corner and not the line for the straight. Will try to drive without the racingline though :)

Generally none although some cars I may use ABS, TCS, difficult to say at the moment.

I will add though that if I cannot drive a car without assists then I won't suffer just so I can boast that I use no assists. I find at times those who use no assists see themselves as being superior than those who use assists. This is absolute nonsense when it comes to racing and I cannot stand this almighty attitude.

Only time I used TCS was for the ford gt test car and corvette which were both 1. But with enough practice, I plan to disable it period.

I can see why you would say such things...

... there is a certain pride in it.

Using aids is not forbidden, everyone is free and entitled to use it.
No one is really considering you as citizen of second ranks ;)

BUT, ultimately, you are limiting yourself....
... really....
Instead of walking/running with your own two feet,
why would you want to add crutches to your movement...
... slows you down ;)

Peace

PS: if more of you/us would admit that they do use assists, (get out of that closet), it wouldn't looks so wrong ;)

EDIT: Yes IKizzLE, probably the car that i would switch TCS on would be for the Ford GT, that thing is insane out of control

OK, third time should be lucky, sorry for inconvinience, please vote again, thank you :D

Inspired by similar topic on F1 forum I decided to make it here because I think it will be intrested to find out some details regarding this matter.

What driving assits you think you will use during GT5 online sessions?

Please vote by your personal preferences, multiple answers are welcomed, as well as further poll-suggestions.

Thank you in advance!

I placed ABS only, but I started to get use to driving the Speed SIX without it, maybe once I see how GT5s Physics are, I might switch for No assists whatsoever.

I use ABS at 1, and the driving line because it makes it easier to nail those breaking zones. Basically, I'll use what I have to to go faster. Every other aid slows you down. I dabbled with the settings a while back, and was 2-3 seconds faster with the aids off, but that also included switching to a manual.

I'll be using the same assist that the real car has. If it got ABS then I'll use that, if it got TC I'll use that. If I'm driving an ALMS based GT car I'll use just the TC just as the rules permit. So I cant really select any of the options or perhaps I should choose all of them?

One more thing turning off or on ABS depends on how much of an advantage it gives.

If I go through the trouble of feathering the brake pedal with the risk of flatspotting a tire I want a sizeable braking advantage over ABS users.

It wont be worth it if you can only brake 5 meters later then someone who has ABS turned on. In NASCAR 2003 you could brake as much as 25 - 50 meters later depending on how much you have to slow down with ABS turned off. Of course there was always the threat of locking up a tire or two and flat spotting them, just like with no TC theres always the threat of spinning the tires out of a slow corner, wearing them out faster

Braking 5 metres later than an identical car is a huuggeeee advantage. Braking 25 to 50 (!!!) metres later because you have disabled the ABS isn't just unrealistic, it's crazy!

Sorry :)

Edit: I'm aware of how long it takes a NASCAR to stop, but they aren't built for stopping. A 50 metre advantage in a M3 or Carterham is just silly.

I see your point. However, if no ABS is as difficult to judge in GT5 as it was in GT5P it wont be worth it, even more so considering the addition of tire wear.

50 m was probably too much, I just know in NASCAR 2003 when your slowing from 195 mph to 55mph to enter pit road and not speed you can brake waaaay later without ABS then with ABS. It may seem like a huge distance but it probably only was 15-25 meters. Many times though drivers have locked up tires when trying to gain as much time doing this, even blowing them out :sly:

Most games exaggerate the handicap of AIDs. For example traction control can help some racing cars go faster but in games any type of traction control usually slows you down.

In conclusion, I hope no ABS gives you an advantage in GT5. I would be happy with a 5 meter advantage as long as it isn't stupid hard to judge it like in GT5P.

Great question? Since we're able to set specific rules for private racing, my preference would be to make the car as close to stock or in the case of race cars close to regulations as possible. For example for road/production cars, no ABS or TCS in the case of cars like the Ferrari F40 or the McLaren F1.

For more recent cars wih defeatable/adjustable TCS/ASM ie. Manettino/DTC/ESP etc., thanks to PD's ingenuity to include real-time adjustable TCS/ASM/ABS, I can turn them ON,OFF, increase or decrease the amount of driving assists depending on how well/poor I'm driving in the race. The same would apply when the tires are beginning to wear in longer races (or when I' wearing out). And if by chance GT5 includes dynamic weather, again the RTA Assists will prove handy.

This, except with TCS off. I also plan to follow this when it comes to shift selection (Mercedes McLaren SLR=Automatic, Mercedes SLS AMG=Paddles, McLaren F1=H Gate)
