I will add though that if I cannot drive a car without assists then I won't suffer just so I can boast that I use no assists. I find at times those who use no assists see themselves as being superior than those who use assists. This is absolute nonsense when it comes to racing and I cannot stand this almighty attitude.

Quoted for truth.

I always use active power steering on and ABS set to 1 for my DFGT.
The rest is all off, as it defnitely makes u slower.

Hi, long time lurker, first time poster 👍

I totally get what you are saying, but I have to question why you would let the actions and reasons of others bother you? If they feel the need to make themselves out to be superior, let them have at it - all that matters is what YOU want and how YOU play the game :)

Personally, I'm a pad user so I find that I generally need some level of assist to make the grade. Gears are always manual, and I'll usually start with all other assists set to 1 to get a feel for how it is with various types of car. If necessary, I notch things up one level at a time until I'm comfortable with the settings that suit the majority of cars.

At the end of the day, for me GT is all about being a game I can play and enjoy, not a tool for me to wrestle with!

I honestly think that everyone in a lounge should have to use the same settings. It would be unfair if some people used assists and others did not in the same race.

The only thing in my opinion that decides what assist is how close it is to the real thing. I want to be as close to the real deal as possible. If that means that I'll be last to the checkered flag then so be it. If a car is hard to drive then I'll practice until I can drive it. But then I'm a wheel user. Can't drive with the pad. And no I'm not feeling superior to users that want to use assists, it's up to each and everyone. But when we have private lobbies I'll be setting my setting as close to the actual cars as possible for realism.

Il probably not use any assists, i didnt in gran turismo, though ABS was always on in gran turismo along with what some games call "stability control" or atleast the cars feel that way, its impossible to lock the brakes.

ABS can make you faster but it can also increase braking distance, if its properly implemented it won't always make you faster. Depends how online racing is though, it may be worth havin some aids on to survive the onslaught of players crashing into you.

The driving/braking line is quite useless for me, as each car should need to be driven different, if you learn to drive using that then you might end up missing out on faster/more natural racing lines.

Traction control? Pass, I don't need that. ABS Only, even though I voted none because I didn't see the ABS one but nonetheless.

I'll be using traction control, just set to level 1 or 2 since in Prologue it seems to have hashed up the accelerator sensitivity. It moves gradually up until you're depressing it about 50%, then in game it jumps up to about 100% acceleration not much after that.. which is of course far too sensitive to try and use. TCS is a must if you're using any high powered car and playing with a controller, sadly. Maybe GT5 will have adjusted the sensitivity of the accelerator (cos braking with L2 is a smooth experience, no reason why accelerating with R2 should be any different).

No assists at all, I hope they allow you to change the sensitivity of the pedals. In GT5P had to keep TCS on 1 to use the higher powered cars. I play FM3 with no assist at all, except the braking line as in FM3 it's hard to judge braking distances accurately. I'm itching to get my hands on that McLaren F1 and tune it like the LM and head for 24HR Nurburgring. I am definitely going to be uploading videos to youtube.

ABS 1.. well going by prologue.. and driving line at the start to get the braking points then turn it off once i'm confortable and pushing to get faster.

Driving/braking line if the track is new to me. If not then none whatsoever.
Believe it or not, with a brand new track I'm often worse with the line on because I find myself focusing too much on the line and not enough on the actual driving. Once I have a reasonable understanding of the track, I find the line helps to get the braking points, but beyond that, I just find it distracting.

I found that in FM3 it's harder than hell to get fast lap times without the braking line in place, much harder than it is in GT. I think the gear position light is what I used along with trackside details to help me gauge my optimum braking points. Been playing too much FM3 online braking line is a given when racing those exceptionally talented drivers.

Yeah, I haven't played too much of FM3 to be honest, only ever go on it if I'm over at a mates who has a 360 and copy of the game.

Typically I'll try not to use the line unless I really have to, and much prefer just learning the general layout of the track by racing it and following other cars. Once I know where the corners are and the approximate speeds, I then work on the braking points, maybe using the line to help there to start with along with the scenery.

Seeing as I prefer to drive older cars, most of which do not have electronic assists, I will be having to switch them off for ultra realism. I will probably end up in the wall most of the time though.

Same here. With the right tuning, a big burly carb'd V8 sedan should be fun as hell to drive.

With the exception of a little TC; every other driving aid feels weird to me and I'm much slower as a result. ABS is probably the worst offender when it comes to assists.
