GT5:P Online Dissatisfaction

Heya. New to GT5:P multplayer. Old to the GT series.

19 total races? automated matchmaking? Half the races are in standard physics mode?

Why can't we create custom races? Why can't you invite friends to your games? This is strange and cumbersome. I hope the final copy of GT5 isn't going to be like this.

Also: BUMPERCARS. LATENCY ISSUES. CANNOT CONNECT. LACK OF PLAYERS.

But despite this bad mojo, I'd love to play with some fellows. Gimme a shout on PSN.
 
I'm down. I just now got with the times and picked up a PS3 for myself. I used to have access to one but it was my roommate's.

GT5 will have private custom lobbies and possibly public custom lobbies.

Think of prologue as a sort of online beta test.

Bumpercars? You mean the physics side of things? That has been seen to. if you are referring to other drivers shunting you, theres not a lot you can do about it excpet drive cleanly and set an example (or send a PM to the player).

Latency issues? I don't notice any (at least anymore, not with the latest update). The latency was horribly bad in late 2007/early 2008, but its been tuned and optimised now so it runs smoothly. It must be your connection.

Cannot connect? We all get errors from time to time, some are fixable manually, some just fix over time... Again PD will most likely fix some of these problems for GT5.

Lack of players? Its a prologue that has been out for 2 years, very few people are playing it now. Sometimes it can take 10 minutes+ to actually find somebody else online. When you do, its usually 2 or 3 cars in the line up, which is always a big disappointment. At release the servers were constantly full, it seemed every race was a full grid, but not anymore.

It is very very limited right now. But as Kazunori Yamauchi’s has stated:

"Physics, sound, and online-features will be Gran Turismo 5’s greatest contributions to the evolution of the GT series." (Source)

And about online play:

“The big difference between Prologue and GT5 Prologue is that works like an open game. Anyone can go and play together. In GT5, there will be a restricted area where you can invite anyone you want or your friends.” –via JVN (Source)

That sounds great. I'm already exited if there are more than 5 opponents now, because that doesn't happen often. I can't imagine how it would feel like with 16 cars on the track.
