It is rather arrogant to say pro physics deserve more than standard physics.
Pro physics is not a step up in difficulty, but it is a step up in realism. It seems a lot of people are missing that point.


At what point in my post did I say it deserves more .I stated that they would alienate a group of people who cannot compete ,nor did I say anything to do with difficulty .Pro physics takes time to master and as a result while in that process means you are not up to speed techniques other drivers have been using for a number of months / years.
 
Nah, unlocking some particular cars would be a bit of incentive for some to move up from standard to pro but not cars that would affect much in the game, possibly classic or historic cars or something.

So we will keep those cars from the millions of kids, and people who aren't die hard GT players?! You guys are elitist. :lol:
 
IMO there souldn't be different trophies for Pro and Standard physics. They should just give more (let's say.. 2x more) prize money for winning race on Pro.

E: I think 2x more A-spec points for Pro would be a good thing too ;) And there should be a trophy for 1 000 000 A-Spec points.

All that would be cool, if there were seperate difficulty levels.
Maybe if there were settings for the AI difficulty, or more difficult times to beat, that stuff may apply.
 
One problem i find is, how are the license tests going to work? On the one hand, it makes sense to lock them to pro physics, but that would eliminate the point of standard... But at the same time, why would people take the time and effort to gold a license if they were content with standard physics? Surely the whole point of aiming for gold is for a challenge and to achieve something. You can complete the game just with bronze. Maybe add platinum for pro users to aim for? and maybe have that a few tenths further up than a gold :D That would be awesome. But i think licenses should definetly give you a choice, thats a difficult one i guess.

However, i whole-heartedly disagree that players who prefer standard should be given less prize money, or given fewer or different prize cars. After all they put the effort in, they have raced the same race, won the same race, they should be given the same reward. Any rewards given for winning the race on professional should not deny the standard players from 100% completion, or collecting all the cars or anything like that, because that ruins the fun. PSN trophies, just like Xbox Live Achievements are there to be earned for that very reason. A-spec points in GT4 were also there for that reason, as an indication of how hard a race is going to be, and if they should make a return i think they should definitely take the physics setting into account, even if it is still possible to max it out on standard.

You guys know what's the better physics for casual player? The GT1 physics! Now that's a seller for casual. They should put 4 types of physics. Beginner, standard, professional and simulation. The easy one is the GT1 physics, standard is GT5p standard physics, professional GT5p or GT5 TT demo pro physics, and simulation is the high end physics for hardcore where a small mistake in a race car could end up ending the race for that person. (Mostly for online use of course).
 
I also disagree with banishing the standard players. I personally have finished GT5P on professional physics with no driving aids at all whilst using my DS3. But I haven't golded every event and if I switched back to standard at some point, I felt like I was letting myself down and switched it straight back. I just enjoyed myslef.

Enjoying yourself is what games are all about. You can rave about how the hardcores are being left out to dry, how GT is getting softer as it goes harder, and how you like to have a sense of achievement that you know could simply be turned off, but you're missing the point. How will that 11 year old kid feel when he can't get past the Sunday cup? Some people just want to win, because winning is fun. And they don't want to struggle endlessly against a video game to achieve that goal, because that is not fun.

This dilemma was over before it began. The best option would be either 1) Have a different trophy for a different setting and a % score for each setting. Or 2) Make it a Playstation trophy for you to unlock. Don't take some kids milk money because is isn't as good as you, nor should you take the toys he got with his money.

The only other bonus I could see working would be a car that could be unlocked at a certain percentage, that you could unlock during a race or buy. For example how many people didn't have a Ford GT before they won the Supercar lounge race in the extreme hall? (GT4)

Just so long as it doesn't take away the fun.
 
I don't care for pro mode. I preffer standard as I'm not a very good racer. I managed to finish Prologue on Standard physics with most gold and a handful of silver and only a few bronze. So being able to choose pro or standard in GT mode would certainly make more sense. Not everybody is a pro.

I don't think Standard Physics means you're cheating or that you're useless or taking short cuts. Just means it's easier. Like I said, not everybody's a pro and I disagree with those
that say Standard is cheating. :(
 
GT has had the best learning curve of any racing game (bar burnout) because of the lisence tests.

Now, there's 4 main ones, NB, NA, IB and IA.

It's simple, the B tests are done in standard physics, and the A ones are pro physics.

And this time, how about the licenses do something? Maybe you're not allowed to race online unless you have the national lisence, and if you only have NB, you can only do online with standard physics? You need a NA at least for pro physics online (or better yet, raise both of those to International B and A for standard and pro online respectively).

Bam, easy way to make sure people are good enough online, they can handle the physics mode (no sudden need to adjust to pro physics for the first time).
 
^^ sorry mate, but I have to disagree, the license tests do almost nothing for the learning curve because most players consider it challenges and take too few lessons from it, they just pass the test, get the license and go race, no matter if he got bronze or silver. This is what all my friends who played GT said, the only one who cares about getting gold on licenses or using them to improve my skills it's me....

Also, you will learn a lot more racing in and endurance than playing consecutive times the same license challenge. Besides, I'm expecting more interesting (and longer ) license tests in GT5.

I don't agree with this. People should be able to pick this game up and play it online straight away.

For people who have already played GT5P or GTPSP, they will already have a good selection of vehicles in their garage if they've decided to transfer them so if they want to jump online as soon as the game is out, they should be allowed to without having to sit through the licence tests.

I always felt that the licence tests did little to improve driving because if you just wanted to pass them on bronze, this could be done fairly easy with very little regard for using the correct line etc.

I think the only purpose they serve is as another challenge to be completed.

I disagree. I think the licenses serve the purpose of teaching people who are new to driving/racing in general.

When i started playing GT1 many years ago, i was still a child so obviously hadn't the slightest idea how to drive a car. The licenses took me a couple of weeks to complete they were so challenging. I play them now and i'll pass the bronze first time sure, but they are meant as a learning tool for entry level users. After you've achieved bronze/silver on them all there is little you can learn from them, there on you get the best practice simply by racing. Then if you want you can go back and finish the licenses on gold.

In GT4 i struggled to get silvers on most tests the first time around, but now i can get gold within a couple of attempts. The licenses were always useful in improving my driving skills, but there is a point at which they can't help you any more.

You still shouldn't lock out a major feature of a game because someone can't pass some tests. I have a hard enough time trying to pass some of the tests with bronze and I really don't want to keep repeating the same corner again and again. All I want to do is race and drive cars, whether it be on or off line.
 
The extremely doubtful, however I would say that 90% of hardcore GT fan will probably play it on pro physics. Most people don't like to crank the difficulty up to 11 on any game.

I'll play it on pro physics all the way through, but the AI had better have the same adjustments to make on the car that I do by using Pro physics too (and not standard physics while I'm on Pro). That would be a poor way of making it challenging :/

Yes, take in account most of us gamers (and in consequence GT players) are under age. In my particular case I don't have a drivers license, and though I have the age to get it, it would've costed me as much as my G27 and wouldn't be as fun. Driving IRL a 1.3L Fiat Palio to the supermarket or driving in GT a 6.0L Aston Martin around a proffessional race track in Japan? :sly:.
 
I'm an utter racing nut, like everyone on here, but unless you have a house big enough, dedicated room, steering wheel - and extra time to dedicate your life to GT, standard physics are the only way I can afford to get a quick racing fix that feels simulation-like but doesnt punish you for not having the full setup ready 24/7.

GT with Pro physics setting *needs* a simulator-like setup, and alienates core GT fans.

Thats why I was amazed GT academy was only pro physics, it should be only Standard - because it is totally inaccessible to the casual enthusiast.

I hate GT Academy with a passion - because I'd love to compete, but I simply can't have my GT wheel + stand out all the time.

The Academy thing was to find the best drivers so it made sense to keep it at the pro level. I just hope PD releases an updated demo with both sets of physics so everyone can see how they will be.

I do have a 2010 1.4 Fiat Palio, and its so much fun to drive... nothing compared to a Aston Martin , but still fun. But you´re right about the most of gamers...they are underage ... and i think the licenses are essential , are part of the game since its born, the most of us took a lot of time to complete some of them... and its kind rewarding... :P

I'm walking straight into an arguement that I dont want, but...

To get the absolute fastest time with Standard physics still requires a lot of skill, but also allows a dual-shock crowd a look in.

I personally feel (and I do track days & karting in real life) that the standard physics actually offer a better overall feel of 'driving'.

The whole sliding around like you're on ice in GT5 Academy is laughable really, you'd need 800 hp to make it that squirmy and uncontrollable.

I think licesnces are a good idea, not everyone has been playing GT for 12 years.. it can help bring your standard of driving up to the required level to enjoy the game.

Online play should be available from the word go, but there's no reason not to have different rooms for people who have achieved a better standard through out the tests.

I just hope that 5 doesn't come with the same catastrophic face-melting understeer built in as the TT did, as stated above it's like having to tip-toe on ice. If that means using standard physics, then I'll guess thats what I'll do - although I still believe the Pro physics will be much more enjoyable and far less frustrating once I get a wheel sorted out.

They both require skill, but Pro physics concentrate that skill on a more realistic feeling of the car, and it also has consequences that are closer to real life. So obviously, Pro physics will give better insight as to who will make a better driver in the real world.

GT Academy on standard physics does not makes sense. It was released for the Academy, it was not aimed at casual players. Who says they arn't going to release a demo in the future aimed at the regular GT players?

You're not really cranking up the difficulty, you're cranking up the realism!

Sorry, but if you can't manage bronze (at least) on the national tests, you're the last person I want to meet online, because that implies that you can't manage simple maneuvers let alone an entire sprint race around a circuit full of cars.

Oh, and for the people complaining that they already have GT5P or GTPSP or whatever, didn't they announce that you'd be able to transfer not only cars/money, but you'd get a lisence or something?

That way the experienced drivers who I wouldn't mind racing against (they have some skill) can instantly go online, or if they don't transfer, then the nat tests should be done in approximately 39 seconds all up. And the non-experienced drivers, the new people to GT, would spend maybe 30min on the tests? And that's be 30 minutes learning the physics engine, using a wide, wide range of cars and learning some sections of some tracks, maybe even some who laps.

tl;dr no n00bs online, if you're not a n00b the tests should take a few seconds.
