Me messing around with a Lexus IS-F. Man they really improved the sound of it compared to the Prologue version. Sounds like the real deal now 👍

Real thing to compare

All sounds are improved. However, they continue to miss bottom end and the "throatiness" of real engines/exhausts. Above all the sound is "synthetic", like a cheap game. Keep in mind it's been almost 6 years, this is a subject they were hammered about for a long time. A long, long time.

Attention!! Make sure you have sound setting ingame matching your speaker configuration. Mine had 5.1 setting on for some reason altough i have only 2.1 system. When is switched to 2.0 in-game, sound improved massivly.

For some strange reason, if you add the best transmission to the cars, it sounds like you added a supercharger. It gets a very annoying and overwhelming whine noise from the inside view.

I drive on the inside view (when I can) and but the audio is actually better on the roof cam. :dunce: And I hate the roof cam so trying to get the audio perfect is almost impossible for the inside view.

I was very impressed when I first hear the sound of NFS Shift. Then, I realized that ALL sounded VERY similar.
I mean, they sound great, with a great feeling of a real car, but in the end I felt that all were in a equal situation.

In GT5 got a big sound improvement, is not definitive, but I think I'm more comfortable with that. I really do not know why, but... :dopey:

By the way, that IS-F sound JUST REAL.

A big hug.

Eager Snake.

The racing exhausts sound good on the sls stealth and on the maserati. But other than them two allthe others sound alwful.

I found the MP4-12C to sound dissapointing stock, but with a titanium exhaust on (2.1) it sounds like an old DFV and much more representative of the real thing.

On a different note, anyone else dissapointed by the lack of induction noise on the M3 CSL ?

On induction noise, there's the very disappointing thing that in most cars in GT no sucking or booming noise coming from the engine compartment, especially after intake upgrades are performed, cannot be heard

Most cars in the game only make mechanical noise. This is particularly apparent when using the cockpit or bumper view.

PD should really fix this. In real life on many cars, especially when tuned, induction noise can be louder than exhaust noise. And on cars with tuned exhausts, the exhaust sound is surely quite audible from the cockpit too (but maybe it's "my fault" since I'm using two-channel audio?).

They would also need to include more different blowoff valve noises (also, not all turbo engines have a BOV), different turbo kits having different noises (but some cars have turbos that do sound different), compressor whine/noise (when one is fitted... oh, also I find limiting that there's only one choice possible. In real life there are different types and much tuning possible, but that goes outside the scope of this message), not to mention the lack of sounds related to road-car contact (come on, when a car is landing from a several dozen centimeters high jump at speed, much more dramatic noises than a soft "thump" are heard in real life).

Several pages back I wrote that GT5 sounds weren't disappointing. After actually playing the game I guess I was wrong, although they do have improved over past games. There's a severe lack of sound sources (many more things than depicted in GT5 make noise in cars), variety and often fidelity (engines at high rpm/loads especially), in addition to bad mixing of the included engine/exhaust noises.

Forza, Shift and DIRT sound fine on TV speakers, and expensive equipment can't fix corvettes sounding like 6 cylinders in GT5... I know because I often wear a pair of $300 Sennheiser closed air headphones at night.

FYI, some of us live in duplexes or apartments with bitchy neighbors, it's not always an option.

have to agree the zr1 sounds like crap 👎

Anyone else noticed the lack of echo/reverb when driving through tunnels? Whats up with that?

No, but I have noticed the extremely accurate echo/reverb when driving through tunnels ;) The noise of the engines makes it just slightly harder to make out. Stop for a minute in one of the tunnels and honk your horn, really sounds nice actually 👍

Try it on a Camaro Z28 👍 Sounds beastly.

Lexus LF-A sound. Doesn't really have that "explosive" sound as the real car does.

It sounds like the real thing outside, but interior sound is different in the real car. More a buzz than a scream.
The howl is only heard outside the car, it's from the tuned exhaust system.
Street car that is, the race car screams on the inside too.
I mentioned before the low end is off in some cars, and you can hear it in the LFA clip.
Pretty obvious pitch shifting can be heard.

That's one thing about the interior sound of GT5, I never get the feeling of muffling and sound proofing. The sound is quieter and thinner inside, but they should have left in the filtering that Prologue did, to muffle the top end to make it sound more rounded.
Missed all the wind and buffeting noises of GT4/Prologue as well....

Also wish they patch it and fix that damn collision sound! The one in Prologue/Time Trial sounded more like a metal body hitting something :indiff:
And for some reason in certain views you can't hear the impact sound

Because its a Racing Transmission !!
Have you ever seen a WTCC/BTCC (or such other kind of Race-series) race with cockpit-Camera ?
There you will here the whining noise => kind of realistic ;)
I will edit a link to a youtube vid

That noise is supposed to mimic the whining of staight cut gears... as on race cars.

the sound in gt5 is a lot better. there are two sounds now, one coming from the motor and one coming out of the exhaust.

The doppler effect is also better. I think that GT5 is the only game that has a decent-great doppler effect.

Have you guys had bought Lambo Murc SV yet? Do you think it has more or less same engine sound effect as real one? I just had it and I am drooling about that beast!

Now this is what I like to call classic...
Compared with the original, I think this music does the car justice, don't you think?!!
(More like those promotional showcase commercials from the automotive companies)

I think many people have problems with the sound being "off" because of their audio setup. There is quite a lot of possibilities in this game. The lowest setting, 2 channel stereo with livingroom range setting, is very dull sounding. The sound is very held back, to keep from damaging speakers and to possibly help improve sound to some extent on low end equipment. If you have a high end home theater (not one of those cute little things that claim 1000 watts power and have tiny little speakers), I suggest setting it to the large theater setting and your respective surround sound setup. I think most would be surprised with the results. The low end on most cars comes to life when you do this, along with the overall potency of the sounds in general. But I must warn you that on cheap home theater equipment, you could very well damage something.

There really is nothing like being able to hear a RX-7 with a semi racing exhaust in nearly real life volume, and have it pass by on screen from behind to in front, and feeling the sound of the screaming exhaust note in your chest. Sounds (and feels) pretty damn close to the real thing to me.
