Does anyone have an idea what those 2 psp-like-looking icons in the lower left and right corner could be for?
I would guess the left one is "save track" and right one "reset track"?

Your right the left one is save track, but the right one is probably just for exit.

Alright so nothing too interesting, but what about the 2 yellow ones in the middle?
Maybe one is for randomizing the selected sector? Would be pretty cool if we could randomize each sector apart from the others, this way it would be even possible to recreate (not 1:1 of course) real world tracks.

The right-hand yellow button re-generates a new random track based on the settings chosen.
The left-hand one goes back to the previously generated track (the "depth" of this "undo" is unknown.)

Posting for clarity:

So does anyone think we'll be able to just make a simple straight road? I'd like to do some testing on it (and most likely a lot of people) with the Bugatti and other fast cars, especially the X1.

Yes, you will. I believe it was mentioned back at Gamescon when Kaz gave a demonstration of the Course Maker demo. According to Famine, or maybe it was the other one, Kaz made a sector where the road was just a straightaway.

EDIT: Actually, Kaz himself confirmed and announced it, not gtplanet assailants.

Yeah but I mean in the sectors tab, in that video he just uses the course maker tab itself.
Here's what I mean (no embedding because it's pretty big and was posted already on this site)

Maybe if you use that yellow re-generate button in one of the sectors you can randomize each sector by itself without changing the other sectors, but I think we won't learn more about that before the game actually is out :(

Hmm, I'm not sure if their functionality is contextual; they look the same as they did on the "mountain" (general?) tab in other shots and in the video.

I hope that what you described does turn out to be the case, though, since it would make it much easier to fine-tune the course.

If you noticed, though, in the video, when the number of sectors was increased to 6 the track automatically updated. Hence, it may be possible to fine tune a sector by continually changing one of the sliders back and forth until it "fits."

While I'd rather "roll my own" as with the ModNation Racers track creator, if all this tweakabilty speculation is true, it'll be close enough for me. Just knowing that we can have any number of courses up to 10km long in many different environments will be HUGE. No more "I wish we had more tracks."

I know that specific race courses such as Brands Hatch are always desirable, but this sure softens that blow a bit.

Maybe for GT6 we will see a point to point track that culls the parts you've already driven on, and it generates a new sector on the fly, so you get a never ending road of joy and fun :)

It'll be just like taking a countryside drive in a place you've never been before

Even better you can maybe specify a height/topgraphy sequence, so it start low and then gradually climb up to a mountain and back down etc

What happens when you turn around and drive the other way again? :dopey:
I jest; it's easily handled.

I think we've all had little daydreams like this over the years (in fact, this was one of my first ideas for a game - still is, in a way.)

Ahem. "Yes Please" 👍

Man, they must have a coastal road theme. A tropical one even, I want the sea on one side and coconut trees on the other! :)

With what might almost be all the themes shown, it's starting to look like there might not be any generic city themes. There was some speculation in recent trailers that some of the night courses might have been created by the Course Maker.

Of course this allows for more control, but is also much more time consuming and in all that time, you learn the circuit easily, the generator adds an element of spontaneity, being thrown into a WRC monster with only your co-driver to guide you, thats rallying for the most part. Although i hope we get "shakedowns" to set our car up right and get a whiff of the stage.

I cant wait to see some great uphill\downhill country\mountainside roads and just cruise @ medium speed online with other people, and who knows maybe opposing traffic to keep those mountain hairpins really spicy.

Love to create a brands hatch, but thinking about it the amount of people that will get this game surely someone would generate a track similar to a real life brands?

Awesome! I hope we have to the ability to make something approximating realworld roadracing circuits! Of course, I am sure the creative persons can also make excellent fictional road/race circuits
👍

So what happened to this menu? I don't see it in the video...
I have a theory that the Gamestop videos are of a really old build... notice also there is no rain and night time icon, even though it's on the same theme. And the allowed time of day is different as well, as are all the button designs and placement

Probably why they removed it

The theme on the top right looks like a generic track theme

I find it really odd that the trees look awful in the bottom left picture on the right side and what is up with the black line? Either this is some early mock up or trees just look crappy. And also the sky looks alot more bland on the picture in the top right, something else is not right either I don't know if its the lighting or the graphics, thoughts? These two shots look a lot different than the other two imo.

There's nothing wrong with the way the sky looks in that top right shot. Kaz once said that a big difference between real world lighting and game lighting is that you're always able to create perfect conditions to make cars look the best in games. But once you start playing with weather and day/night cycles that goes out the door because conditions are constantly changing. You're going to have times when the sky looks like that or when it's really cloudy ect. But those constant perfect conditions won't exist anymore.

I understand but doesn't the track even look different than the other two? Something just doesn't look right, like the track looks more fake than the others.

I don't think it looks fake. It only seems to be a clearer day (which supposedly affects the colors' saturation), plus, it's the only theme out of the four which is a racetrack-theme. Therefore the asphalt looks fresher and better taken care of. Still, I agree - it does look a bit, well, cartoony is the best adjective I can think of. That cartoony look could easily be taken care of by tuning down the saturation and/or vibration of the colors.

The trees metnioned are tall narrow trees, like the ones on the other side of the road, hence why they look the way they do.
The black area is a shadow from the ledge....

The road surface marking is different, though.
Where is that style seen in the course maker usually used?
That, together with the wind turbines, might give some hints of its location.

Have a look at the large pic above, bottom left theme

Here is how it appears in Enthusia, some fantasy European countryside style track called Burgenschlucht

For some reason the big picture disappeared.

However the bottom left theme had a country road with a yellow centerline; as far as I know such surface markings are not usually used in Europe (and as you can see in the Enthusia fictional german track, they're different).

You can't really judge the Thumbnail, I guess we will have to wait and see.

It's been suggested that a lot of the early screenshots we saw were mock-ups rather than real screens. While it's possible that the Gamestop videos are an old build, it's just as likely that they are a more recent, actual build and differ from the older screens because the older screens weren't "real".
