GT5 Tracks - will F1 be the future of Gran Turismo?

Its not the cars that make F1 boring, its the tracks.

So tracks like Spa, Suzuka, Interlagos, Silverstone (to name a few) are the problems of F1?

Of course not. Formula 1 was always a fantastic sport to watch because it was unpredictable and true racing experience. This was because of the cars and the drivers.

Still, i would like to see tracks like Valencia, Singapore and Hungaroring make way for better ones like Algarve (or Estoril), Brands Hatch, Zolder, Zandvoort...

Unfortunately F1 one today it's more a "media and VIP show" and not a racing series. To anyone in F1, the Dubai event will be amazing, even though the track design is lame.

When playing GT5 prologue i noticed a possible hint about the tracks for GT5. When signed in on the Playstation network, you will see a weather update on the right side of the homemenu. The places in this update are all racetracks, some of them are already used in GT4 and Gt5p. Why did Polyphony used this names? I'm confinced this is not a random choice. For example, the tracks of Spa Francorchamps and Zolder (in the small country of Belgium) are both in this list, on a global scale not very interesting for a wheater update.

The tracks on this list are:

NEW - Jerez (Spain)(MotoGP)

NEW - Estoril (Portugal)(MotoGP)

NEW - Hockenheim (Germany)(F1 track)
GT4 - Nürburg (Germany)(Nordschleife and F1 track??)

NEW - Zolder (Belgium)(GT2-3-4)
NEW - Spa (Francorchamps)(Belgium)(F1 track - 24hours of Spa GT) Best track ever!

GT4 - Montery (Laguna Seca)(USA)(MotoGP)
GT4 - Sonoma (Infineon Raceway)(USA)
GT5p - Daytona beach (Daytona International Speedway)(USA)

NEW - Monza (Italy)(F1 track)
NEW - Imola (San Marino / Italy)(former F1 track)(oficial name:Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari)

NEW - Shanghai (China)(F1 track)

NEW - Brands Hatch (Great Britain)(MotoGP and a former F1 track)
NEW - Silverstone (Great Britain)(F1 track)

GT4 - Le Mans (France)(24h de le Mans)
GT4 - Monte Carlo (Monaco / France)(F1 track)
NEW - Magny-Cours (France)(F1 track)

GT4 - Motegi (Japan)
GT5p - Fuji (Japan)(F1 track)
GT4 - Tsukuba (Japan)
GT5p - Suzuka (Japan)(F1 track)

With a big possibility I think this will be the list of official licensed tracks for GT5. I remember when GT5 prologue was released, Kazunori Yamauchi told in a interview that a full F1 season in Gran Turismo is a possibility for future editions. Seeing this list of tracks tells me that this is the direction they are going right now. (MotoGP track=a new Tourist Throphy??)

A good find, FDM73. It would be interesting to have these tracks in GT5.

Thanks for sharing this information !

I used to play Microprose's F1 back in early 90's and loved the circuits, especially Spa, Imola, Monaco (Cote d'Azur in GT), Magny Cours, Montreal, Hockenheim and many mor e. But I am curious why is there so few Japanese tracks. It would be good to add Sugo and many others seen in Best Motoring, especially that autumn narrow track. There is only Tsukuba of them.

I don't really care if we will see F1 in the future of Gran Turismo. Right now, GT works fine for me. I just hope to see more great F1 tracks on the map :

Interlagos
Monza
SPA - - A MUST!
Imola

And how bout that new F1 track in Abu Dhabi?

The original Hockenhimring was awesome. After they Tilke-nised the circuit, it's crappy.

The weather thing in GT5P is interesting because I always wondered if it would be tied into the weather system in GT5 (if the feature makes it into the game).

Basically, let's say you want to go do a race on Suzuka in GT5, and after you select the track the game checks with the weather feature to see what the weather there currently is, so that it can select what weather type to use for the race to be accurate to current conditions.

Would be a really unique, innovative and cool feature I think. Like for example if it's actually night at the track you've selected, the game makes it night when you race on it etc.

Would so love that :)

Abu dhabi tracks is good looking with its hi-tech structure but it sucks. I saw yesterday the f1 race and it was so boring, non possibility of overtaking, no fast corners.. it sucks..as all tracks made by Tilke, this man is destroying f1 with is no sense tracks.
I live very near Monza track and i have been there several times.. it's not hi-tech, walking around is like walking in a jungle, there is nothing but is so soooo good. Classic tracks are way better.

Agreed, Hermann Tilke seems to be F1s man of the moment as far as track design goes... which is a very bad thing as his track layouts are very poor!!

I'm a big F1 fan and have been for years, and if you watch an entire season you'll see that the most exciting races are the ones held on historic tracks... Silverstone, Spa, Monza, Interlagos, the old Hockenheimring, etc.

But then come the modern tracks... Valencia circuit as an example. Another Tilke design that un-suprisingly is boring as hell, and anyone remember the A1 ring!?! Which was a great track when it was known as the Ostereichring, but then here comes Tilke and what happened...he wrecked it!!

So as far as F1 being the future of Gran Turismo...

...as long it's the old pre '90s classic tracks, then hell yeah. If it means putting Tilkes abominations in the game... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I saw F1 yesterday and the circuit was better than what I expected, example; last lap. I would love GT5 to have F1, I have been always wanting it.

There is nothing wrong with Silverstone either, the first half of the lap is amazing! I would be happy to see Sepang as well, the best of the Tilke circuits.

Spa, Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Interlagos and Imola can go through as well obviously. I am a big fan of the Hungaroring as well, always found it fun to race on in game, even if it does not provide a great race.

Monza is, lets be honest, a tad boring but I would allow it through as well for historic reasons.

It would be great if Spa-Francorchamps was in the game. It would be totally awesome if PD also put in the old 14km version of Spa. I just love long tracks :)

Ditto.

While I agree about Valencia, the Hungaroring is actually a very exciting track IMO. As for singapore, it might not be the best, and it would probably be a dull race during the day, I'd like to see it in GT5. I think it could make for some exciting races in GT5... Having said that, I don't have a wii or psp, so my opinion may change when I actually get to play a game that includes singapore.

There were some great races there with senna, mansell etc.

ha we could use donnington as a rally stage at the moment

Haha. Yeah we could.

There was a small dirt track inside the main track at some point. I went to the download festival in 2008... What better way to spend a week seeing some of my favourite bands and being where one of the best F1 races of all time took place back in '93.

Anyway, my point was, there was a small dirt track there, allthough I think it was for motorcross. It was at the top of the hill, at the start of the back straight before the dunlop tyre if I'm not mistaken. It was walled off though. Wouldn't be much use in GT5 though, I'm just rambling.

Would be quite funny though.

ha I loved it because of the planes flying really low over the track because it is right next to the airport

I've posted this before, but for those of you who want the ultimate motorsport challenge, PD should be encouraged to replicate the most exciting mtorsport track in the world.

The Royal Automobile Club "Four Inch Course"*

Nothing can compare to this, not even the rather short Nurburgring - and F1 is tedious by comparison.

* - Otherwise known as the Snaefell Mountain Course. Former host to car racing.

Current Lap Record 17:12.3 (against a nordschliefe lap record of some 6:55)
Max speed recorded during training - 206 mph / 332 kph

Just realized how great its going to be in a Ferrari 2007 going around the Nurburgring since they do not have F1 races at the Nurburgring because its to dangerous

Monza boring... i hope you're kidding.

Hhahahahahah Good joke but if your being honest checkout some videos on there from some past F1 races. watching king the Lewis Hamilton hunt Jenson Button down this season on the last laps just before crashing was amazing

I was there, great crash :) ..there was madness for Raikkonen getting the podium in last lap (off course i'm a Ferrari fan)
I live 50 min away from the circuit.

you're lucky too, Silverstone is a good one.

I didn't booked tickets for Monza cause you dont' need tickets .. you just need to be able to climb a metallic net and run fast or at least have some bonus free ticket for the "free roaming grass" and then, when you are inside, climb some stands. Last year i had a free ticket for grass section and then i climb Ascari Stands to reach a 350 euros covered seat and nobody say something (you also need a ferrari t shirt cause if you try this with a mclaren t shirt you'll get killed).

haha but dont you think this season at monza all ferrari fans will be wearing a silver mercedes shirt:crazy:

Monza is one of my all-time favourite real-world tracks. Fantastic high-speed racing there.

As for the thread topic itself, if they could acquire the license, it would make perfect sense for SONY/PD to produce an F1 game based on there established technology base.

Well, concerning the thread title, whether F1 has a future is debatable, so lets hope GT stay's well clear of anything official, just the cars will be fine, preferebly some classic old ones.

That doesn't make it any less boring when you're leading a pack of AI cars who have no chance of catching up and have to go around the same flat-out turns for the remaining 15 laps.

Now, Hungaroring is exciting. It's a great mix of flat-out pedal to the metal and heavy braking.

Anyone notice the Wikipedia GT Tracks section? Someone went crazy confirming tracks for GT5 on that page, so much that I assume the majority won't be in the game. Although tracks that were confirmed on that page include Sepang and Spa, both of which would be great inclusions in GT5. At the same time, Complex String was confirmed and nearly every GT Original track as well, which makes me believe these confirmations are completely farcical.
