GT5 vs Forza3 big time release?

This is not another release date wishlist. This one could be really major.

What if GT5 gets released sometime close to Forza3's release date?

I mean it's impossible for anyone to speculate the release date. But i remember KY saying sometime ago that the release will be a surprise to everyone. And now he is saying GT5 will be released shortly after GTPSP is out. Forza3 is coming 27th of Oct, GTPSP is coming 1st of Oct, If KY was being real when he said "GT5 coming shortly after GTPSP" then it can't be a November or December release. I mean 2 months, 60 days from 1st of Oct isn't short at all. It should be really closer than anyone thinks.

I think SONY really wants to spank MS so hard this time. As GT5 is the only Exclusive from the old list that hasn't released yet. If GT5 interrupts Forza3's release date... Then God have mercy on Microsoft.

To be honest I think you would see a marked drop in Forza3 sales if GT5 came out - it's just more hyped.

But in saying that, I don't think it will release until December. 2 months is short for KY lol.

Both games would see a significant drop in first week sales. It's Business 101 that you never release something the same day as your competitor.

I agree with the December part also, October would just be too soon for them to get it out. Not to mention you have to give time for people to get pre-orders in.

What makes you think 2 months is short for KY? He never said anything about a release date before. He just kept improving his game.

They're not exactly direct competitors. Anyone who has one of the two systems and likes racing games will buy the respective racing game for it. The people who own both are kind of up for grabs however it is likely they will buy both if they are racing fans. There will be a permanent stalemate between these two franchises.

As GT5 release date will be announced at TGS and this time it's for sure. People will start pre-ordering the game from 24/25th of Sept ;).

It's not to short for him, he doesn't have to do the advertising. Well commercials may not air until a week before launch you have to give time for the game to.
1) Ship (duh!)
2) Allow customers to place pre-orders or just get the money together (not everyone has $60 laying around)
3) Shops to put up promotional posters, schedule special events if they plan on a midnight release as well as anything else
4) Get approved by the ESRB (not sure if other countries have a different name for it)

I would also think they would have to prepare the servers for the game, but chances are it's already done.

I don't think we will see an Oct release. I think before xmas is about as good as it will get.

Releasing head to head is not a good idea despite being console specific and honestly, I think PD wants to get as close to xmas as possible but still be reasonably placed for xmas sales. I think they want to play off the hype as much as possible (especially since I think there may be some dissapointment with the final product compared to the hype) so hype it through november, release early december or at least setup pre orders so sales fever is high and you get the $$$ before word gets out about any faults in the game.

BTW I agree, 2 months is short for KY :D

Just listen to the Dev at the beginning as he sends direct strikes for GT5.

The release date is a surprise. How would you know that they didn't start preparing for such things already!!

When has anything lived up to the hype?

Ah how I love sales age!

Forza 3 would be torn apart sales wise if it released close to Gran Turismo 5. That has nothing to do with quality and all to do with brand name. If the game is announced at TGS that gives the game more than a month to build hype to release near Forza 3. I think the game will release in December 09 though WW.

Quite a few things have, in fact some of the best things had almost no hype so way exceeded the hype.

True a lot of stuff doens't live up to the hype, but then again, we are talking Sony and PD here, who are masters of hype... and PD has the hype machine going 120% right now if you ask me.

Sony has started preparing I can guarantee that, however they won't put it into action until the release date is out. I'm guessing they don't want shops leaking there well kept secret.

Why do people keep thinking this?

The two games are on completely different consoles.

The ammount of people who own both consoles is a tiny fraction among the people who own just one of the two.

Just because a game on a different console was released doesn't mean someone is not going to buy a game for the console they have.

It is as simple as People who own both consoles will buy both games. People who Have PS3s will buy GT5. People who have 360s will buy FM3. People who have nintendo wiis will buy, well, nothing I guess.

Also, when it comes to "system seller" titles, they are mainly for people who had the prequels and enjoyed them but were on the older console. Chances are if you havn't gone to PS3 thus far but you were a fan of GT4, GT5 might just make you "take the plunge"

There is about hole month gap between TGS and Forza3's release date. If they announce the date at TGS they won't have to keep secrets anymore .

Well i know people who are waiting for GT5 to buy a PS3. And i know People who can't wait anymore and might buy an xbox360 just to enjoy a good racing game.

Oh my god! not another Gt vs FM's ...Sony vs MS thread. Nothing could be said in this thread that couldn't be posted in the other threads about these 2 games

You still have to make sure all the retailers in their respective regions get the material at the correct time. Really there are a lot of different things that I probably don't even know about. Releasing a game isn't just shipping the game and throwing some adds around. It has to be very coordinated to make sure all the retailers have the game on time as well.

I will buy both even if theyre released on the same day. Both games appeal to me. I have Forza 2 , Forza 1 and all GT games.

For the first time in ages I bought an independant ps3 magazine called Play. They have a release date set for November. Also on Sep 3rd they are doing a special preview including an interview with Kaz.

So when does the edition that includes this info come out?

I think it's going to be late November, December time at the earliest. 2 months is a short period of time and the only time I would have ever said otherwise was back when I was in school. 2 pay cheques come around pretty quick.

From announcing the gaems release date they need to advertise that date, they need to get the product distributed and they need to make sure than the gmae is full translated and bug tested. Announcing the release date only 1 month ahead of launch I think would hamper early sales, on top of them releasing the game shortly before christmas would maximise early sales of both the game and it would impact PS3 sales more than an October release date would.

I am fully prepared to wait util next ear if I have to, but the signs are pointing to a December release date. Now I'm not saying you are wrong Darkpitiless, becaus we don't know what the date really is. You could be right and if yo are then I'll have GT5 and Forza 3 close to each other, but I think October is too early. The one thing you are wrong about is to say that 2 months isn't a short period of time in pbusiness and particularly product launches.

I dont think that gran turismo 5 will effect Forza 3 sales because there on two different systems and im pretty sure a lot of people that own a Xbox 360(mainly because of the ps3 bland game titles and old Price Tag) do not own a ps3. Its like Final Cut Pro will not still sales from Sony Vegas because there both on there operating systems. I really dont know how this whole ps3 price cut is work for them, but for now I think they will both sell well no matter what the release date for Gt5 is.

I dont think its a question of game sales affecting each other as system sales. The new slim PS3 is coming in at a new price point and Sony will want GT5 to help sell as many of the new variety PS3s as possible. Likewise, people who have been on the bench about which console to buy may edge toward a 360 if Forza 3 comes out without any major (ie. release date) news from GT5, and the PS3 slim may steal some 360 sales if GT5 throws a spanner in FM3's works.

Im not sure I agree.

I have many friends on my xbox live list who all own a PS3 and are planning on buying FM3 & GT5. However they have all stated that if GT5 is released near FM3 i.e few weeks then they won't bother with FM3. The reasons are simple as they say "why bother playing FM3 when you can be playing GT5".

If GT5 is released very close to FM3 then I can see many 360 owners from Europe/Australia being tempted to buy a PS3. This won't be the case in the US but if you look at the sales its the EU that have the most interest in GT franchise. You only need to read the comments on forums/Youtube to see how many people are planning on buying a PS3 for GT5.

Perhaps, maybe its just the demographic of the people I hang around with. Most the people I know dont own either of the current gen consoles, except a couple own Wiis, I only know one dude who has a PS3 and a few who own Xbox 360s. Most of them who do play games are into racing games (probably due to the fact most are engineering students). This is a group of people that up until now, almost all would have owned at least one console from previous generations. Something about this current generation hasn't really appealled to me or most of my friends.

However, being that most of them enjoy racing games, I'm expecting FM3 and GT5 + PS3 slim to bring a few of my friends into the current gen console era.
