Just a few observations on the ongoing Sony/Microsoft console battle ( Sony's pretty much given up by now haven't they? , and I don't even own an XBox, probably never will either) and how PD's now legendary delay of GT5 has effected Sony:
PS3 vs. XBOX 360 up to now (# of games, price vs. overall quality/value, quality of online experience, etc.)--PS3/Sony = Epic Fail
Playstation Network vs. XBox Live = PS3Sony = Epic Fail
Sony's reliance on PD's GT5 to move millions of consoles for them = Epic Fail
PD's smug reliance on loyal customers to buy GT5 in droves after making those customers wait in the dark while they waste time on features such as Track Editor = Epic Fail
Sure, there are plenty of customers in Europe and certainly Japan who will gobble up GT5 regardless of whether it is released this Christmas or Christmas 2010 or...whenever, because they are true racing fans.
And yes, I will certainly buy the game whenever it comes out (because that's the main reason I got the PS3 anyway ).
However, as anyone who has popped in to check out the NTSC race chat, or gone online to run in NTSC online races can attest to, NTSC is dying--quickly if it is not dead already. Quite frankly, generally speaking, one of the reasons that NTSC drivers (myself included) are so weak in comparison to PAL (imo) is that they lack the patience and resolve required to put in the countless hours of practice it takes to become proficient at the GT series.
*Newsflash for Sony/PD*--Instead of waiting patiently for GT5 to come out, American console gamers have already moved on.
Mark my words, Sony and PD could not have picked a worse time to drag their heels on the GT5 project. With the current state of the global economy, they are in for a rude awakening if they are under the misguided impression that GT5 will be a blockbuster/console-saviour hit...just my two cents.
