GT5Junkie's GT500

Signed the paperwork and mailed the bank check today. I pick it up in less than two weeks, but I basically own it now so figured I'd start a thread.

If you read much of my other thread (or even if you didn't, really) you can just skip straight to the pics.

Was planning on getting a 2011 GT, but then got a nice raise/promotion at work so I figured with the Boss 302 being the hot new stang and the fact that the 2012s are out, I could probably work a pretty good deal on a leftover 2011 GT500.

I had narrowed it down to three color choices, grabber blue with white stripes, Kona blue with white stripes, or performance white with Kona blue stripes. I went back and forth on whether to get the SVT performance package but decided in the end that I'd probably regret it if I didn't. BUT, the SVTPP means skinny (~4") stripes instead of the regular 10" le mans stripes, and I don't like the skinny stripes so I decided I'd get a stripe delete and then have the stripes added later.

So I sent out literally about 50 emails to dealerships throughout the Midwest. Got a ton of prices back, most of which weren't that great (1 or 2 grand off MSRP type prices). Found a white 2011 with SVTPP that they were close on, so I offered them MSRP and they said they'd take it. Was on the phone with them and had my credit card in my hand to give them a deposit when i remembered to ask how many miles were on it. I really didn't want one with even 60 or 70 miles on it, and most dealerships are VERY stingy about giving test drives in their 550 HP limited production Shelbys, so really shouldn't be tough to find one with 20 or 30 miles which would be fine. Turns out this dealership was dumb enough to let someone take the car home for the night and then they didn't buy it, so this one had almost 500 miles on it. Told the dealership I'd think about it and hung up.

So I decided to investigate my backup plan, which is a dealer that was advertising 2012s for about 2500 off. If I could talk them down another grand that would put the price at about 1600 more than the 2011, which I thought was a better deal than a 2011 with 500 miles. While working with this dealer I found out that they would accept Fords x-plan pricing, which I have a pin for due to being a Mustang Club of America member. This made the deal even sweeter, as it's basically invoice price (few bucks less I think) plus the dealership is limited to a 100 dollar doc/delivery fee which usually saves another hundred or two.

So I bought it. Payment is about 130 bucks more a month than my 2008 FJ Cruiser, which I paid off in December, so pretty comfortable.

I fly out to pick it up the 27th, which will start an epic road trip. I've wanted a Cobra since I was a kid, and specifically a factory supercharged cobra ever since the 2003s came out, but never thought id be able to afford a new one, so this is a bit of a dream come true.

Without further ado, pics of the car from the dealership.

First mod may be Kona blue stripes and a clear bra, I may have it done before I pick it up. Also thinking about buying some various white LEDs (Map lights, reverse lights, turn signals, etc) and a MGW short throw shifter and installing them during my trip.

Already bought my first accessory, an Escort passport iQ, combination radar detector and GPS, which should come in handy on my trip.

I think it looks a little plain now, but stripes should give it a good look. White isn't generally my favorite color for a car but I like the idea of emulating the 65 Shelby GT350, all of which were white with blue rocker stripes. Less than 1/3 of them had the full length over the top LeMans stripes though. So kind of thinking of just doing the rocker stripes. Sucks though that I have to either decide now or risk rock chips by road tripping without a clear bra.

Looks awesome. I love these Mustangs. I agree that you should get the stripes put on, and the clear bra is a good idea too if its not ridiculously expensive. But with a car that nice, its definitely going to be worth it.

How long is your road trip?

At least you got a manual transmission. I've seen soooo many expensive cars when the owner got a automatic!

That's good thing. A car like like that shouldn't have the option for an automatic transmission.

Cincinnati Ohio to Seattle Washington, stops in Iowa, Colorado, and Berkeley to visit friends and family, and a stop in Vegas for some fun. Should be epic, can't wait.

There will definitely be a boatload of pics and video once I pick it up, and periodically throughout the road trip.

I moved from Iowa to Alaska about 3.5 years ago and at the time I had the choice between buying a more practical 4x4 or buying a performance car and then buying a beater pickup once I got up here. I bought the practical car, and have kind of regretted missing out on an amazing road trip in a serious performance car. So now I'm doing it right.

Very nice and I even like the colour. (White is my fav car colour) 👍

My cousin just bought a new GT and I am impressed with it (I am in Canada right now) from what I expected even though it is auto but the GT500 must be something else again.

Personally I would leave it just as it is, especially to get a feel for a dead stocker before you start adding things like short shifters etc, though rocker stripes would be a nice touch.

I say skip the corny stripes and get your attention with straight pipes and blinding florescent wheels. Lower it, stance it, straight pipes, get laid. That's how this works.

Congratulations on your new mustang :D

It would be awesome if you could record your first drive of the car once you take delivery 👍

The shifter is really the only thing I'm thinking about right now, just because I've read that the stock one isn't that great (in typical mustang fashion), and the MGW is an automotive engineering piece of art:

Other than that and some fairly minor cosmetic stuff it's going to stay stock for quite a while. Eventually I'll put a mild pulley, intake, and tune on it, which is generally good for 540-550 at the wheels from what I've seen. But for now I'll enjoy the stock 550 (crank) horses and the factory warranty.

Congratulations on your new mustang :D

I'm thinking about the best way to record video, I've got a Sony that records pretty nice video, and one of those little tripods that has magnetic flexible feet, so I'm thinking it can probably attach itself to head rest posts pretty well.

Please don't "stance" the car, of I'll have to shun you for life. 👎

No. It's a Mustang, not some stupid "look-at-me" trend car.

Ignore stance, Kenne Bell it for even more power.

Congratuliations!

I wish you and the car all the best. Let's hope this won't end in a accident oder something.
But why a GT500 and not a Boss 302? :)

Does not compute.

Excellent fitment and stance. Super clean. No stripes. IMO, that Saleen wheel is ugly as sin. If you set that big GT500 on some polished Works or some other VIP wheel it would look soooo nasty.

Ignore stance, Kenne Bell it for even more power.
If he's in it for power, ignore spending huge money on an aftermarket supercharger. One of our local Terminators is running bolt-ons with a stock hand-ported supercharger with tune putting down 550 wheel. More power and running faster quarters than the big Whipple guys. And no, that isn't his only stock blower so it's not like he went to town on the factory part. He bought another stock one just in case, and they're cheap as hell.

Just leave the car stock!
Don't put money into oversized Rims or Spoilers or whatever!

If you spent money, put it into the engine and suspension!

At the ende it#s your choice, what you do with the car, but that is what I would do with the car! :)

So I agree with R1600Turbo!

Keef's doing it wrong. All the stance you'll ever need is here.

550 to the wheel in a Termi. is not going to be all that fast. The Kenne Bell will run his GT500 up to 700Hp & beyond, enough to dominate near any Terminator, as long as he knows how to drive it. And it won't cost him all that much more than attempting to buy some ridiculously expensive set of wheels & suspension just so he can be on the verge of "hella-flush y0".

That's awesome, jack it up and put slicks on it. Then get beat by V8 240s on the highway. The last thing you need to do is roll around looking like a hardass with your 3 inch lift and racing stripes, and then get beat by a V8 240.

Racing Stripes are just a part of a "strong" car.

It's a question of taste. And everybody has a different taste!

I would just leave it stock, and put the money into a bigger supercharger and a new exhaust system. You would remove the Racing Stribes and put bigger rims and stuff like that on this thing. And McLaren would put the "Drag Racer" to this thing? So what? :D

I like them Hood Locks a lot!

Because looking like some stupid ass VIP car is so much cooler, right?

The V8 240 sounds like a nice little joke. Here, let me dump that same money into the Shelby. Goodbye Nissan.

Edit* Oh look, those same V8-swapped 240s are doing the same thing as above.

Look at how ridiculous this guy looks. That kind of stance obviously has no effect on performance.
