Because looking like some stupid ass VIP car is so much cooler, right?

The V8 240 sounds like a nice little joke. Here, let me dump that same money into the Shelby. Goodbye Nissan.
Goodbye Nissan, yeah. Also goodbye $60,000 the Nissan guy didn't have to spend.

I prefer fancy over redneck. Perhaps it is because I'm caught in the middle between city and country folk here in Dayton.

Yeah, because that's exactly what big rear tires are...redneck.

Looks like the silly rednecks even have an event dedicated to the imports.

Perhaps you should come down here & tell them they're doing it wrong. That doing 8's, 9's, & 10's in the QTR isn't cool unless you're doing it with a car that looks like the suspension just took a dump.

*To get back on topic, I'm not sure if this has affected any of the GT500 cars, but there seems to be a current transmission issue going on in the V6 & GT models.

Just to be sure, I'd press the dealer when you pick the car up to see if they have any info about this.

So if i were to get beat by a 240 and I have a suspension that is all about image, and sucks for performance, then that's better? Your arguments are ridiculous.

I prefer function over form. And calling fat tires and a suspension good for drag racing "redneck" makes you sound like an ignorant ricer.

Looking all hard? It's a factory 550 horse car. It is pretty hard, it doesn't just look it. And you don't need any lift to run fat drag radials.

If he's in it for power, ignore spending huge money on an aftermarket supercharger. One of our local Terminators is running bolt-ons with a stock hand-ported supercharger with tune putting down 550 wheel. More power and running faster quarters than the big Whipple guys. And no, that isn't his only stock blower so it's not like he went to town on the factory part. He bought another stock one just in case, and they're cheap as hell.

550 isn't much on a GT500, it's a pulley swap and a tune. KB = 700+. I know someone that swapped the supercharger and tuned and left absolutely everyone else stock (exhaust, intake, throttlebody, cats, everything) and made 672 at the wheels.

It doesn't. The Shelbys have the TR6060 instead of the MT82 in the new V6s and GTs.

Congratuliations!

I wish you and the car all the best. Let's hope this won't end in a accident oder something.
But why a GT500 and not a Boss 302? :)

A lot of reasons, actually.

The 500 is a better street and strip car. Better at the strip for obvious reasons, plus very easy to get more power out of. In stock form it's seriously traction limited but with nothing more than tires it's run low 11s at over 120 mph. Better on the street because it's based on a premium and has all the bells and whistles while the Boss is based off a base GT.

And InsideLine actually drove the 500 around Streets of Willow faster than a Laguna Seca Boss, though they said it was more work and (of course) wasn't as well balanced. Doesn't change the fact that it was quicker.

Price/value was also a big consideration. A 54,000 car for less than 49,000 is just a better deal than a 48,000 car for 48,000 (or worse, a 48,000 car for 53,000+, which is pretty common).

The LS Boss is the car to have if you're going to spend a lot of time at Willow Springs or something, but I'm not, and the 500 is just way better at everything else.

The stock GT500 wheels look great on them anyway, so no reason to go changing them anytime soon. A little bit lower ride height always looks better, but the guys at SVT have probably got it set up well enough that lowering springs alone would mess up the handling, so it would be better stock or doing it right with a real suspension setup.

Yeah, I'm definitely not changing the wheels, they're lightweight forged and I think they look great. Doubt I'll change anything on the suspension either, SVT has done a great job dialing it in and any decrease in height will hurt when hooking up at the strip.

Eventually I'll get a second set of wheels for the strip. Leaning towards these right now:

I'm now worried about my purchase, there have been two nhtsa safety complaints about the GT500:

TEST DRIVING 2011 FORD MUSTANG SHELBY COBRA GT 500. PULLED OUT OF PARKING LOT SLOWLY ONTO ROADWAY AND WHEN STRAIGHT DEPRESSED ACCELERATOR FOR HARD ACCELERATION. VEHICLE ACCELERATED FOR A FRACTION OF A SECOND, THEN BEGAN SPINNING BOTH REAR WHEELS AND VIOLENTLY AND WITHOUT WARNING WENT OUT OF CONTROL AND SPUN AROUND IN ROAD...

:D:D:D 👍👍👍

 Wat, I thought a 500hp RWD car was supposed to go dead straight at WOT in 1st gear exiting a corner with zero wheelspin...

Oh, wait.

The HORROR. We need an investigation!

No, that's LG Motorsports from Wylie, Tx. Home of the now-retired ALMS racer.

Ok, there's also an LG Motorsports in New York and their owner or one of their employees has a 500+ WHP Miata that used to buy parts from us all the time when I worked at Flyin Miata. 👍

@ GT5Junkie: Which part of Colorado are you driving through?

This complaint about an auto Stang sounds like the kind of automatic transmission I would WANT to drive.

WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN 70 AND 75 MPH WHEN I LET OFF THE THROTTLE MY CAR WILL DOWN SHIFT (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) TO LOWER GEAR CAUSING A DANGEROUS CONDITION. IT IS LIKE HITTING THE BRAKES WITHOUT THE BRAKE LIGHT GOING ON. ALSO WHEN COMING TO STOP SIGN IT ABRUPTLY DOWN SHIFTS, I HAVE NOT BEEN HIT IN THE REAR YET BUT I AM CONCERNED. BROUGHT TO DEALER THREE TIMES DEALER DENIES CONDITION BECAUSE HE CANNOT DUPLICATE IT. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION. I AM STARTING TO SEE IT DOCUMENTED ON FORUMS.

Not really, Bones. Go drop two gears at that speed and see what you think of it. And then stop to 1st from 10mph in third. All without any rev matching.

Heh, yeah, just a bit of mockery of this specific situation with the intent of criticism towards most auto boxes, i.e. I wish autos that I have driven in the past would have dropped a few gears upon slowing for a corner.

I'm sure what this guy is experiencing is not cool.

Ooohh so you ended up buying a GT500! Very nice white. Have you considered black or dark grey stripes instead of the typical blue? That way your wheels (and your future wheels by the looks of it) would be better matched to you car. Either way, great buy. Video of you smoky-peeling away off the dealer is encouraged :dopey:

The funny part is that from what I understand the GT500 has regular traction control as well as a sport setting that is less intrusive, both of which would have prevented the spin, and I'm guessing on this test drive the guy turned both off and put it to the floor in an unfamiliar 550 horsepower car.

I doubt I'd do black or gray, it would be a little more harmonious in terms of the wheels and other exterior trim, but the reason I like blue is the history of it.

The latest thinking on the stripe situation is not to do the over the hood/roof "LeMans" stripes at all, and do a Guardsman blue (same color as the 65 Shelby Mustang) or Kona blue side/rocker stripe. I think it'll look a little classier and more understated while still looking a little different and not as plain, and that's how over 70% of the original Shelbys were equipped (side stripes but no LeMans stripes). Not certain on that though, it'll stay stock for a while and I'll see how I like it.

First off, very nice car! I approve!👍 But I think it looks almost nicer without the stripes... or how about one along the rocker panel? That's more subtle. Or, if you're going for stripes how about a thinner one offset to one side... I've always liked that look on Mustangs.

Just my $0.02, but I'm sure it'll still look great regardless of what you do!

Yeah, Different rims, good 'ol 5 spoke. None bigger, smaller if you want, but different.

And an exhaust. Yep...

Today I set up the clear bra appointment for Monday. Also ordered the MGW shifter, a JLT oil separator, the FRPP resonator eliminator, and a GoPro HD camera.
