As a warning before you keep making more posts, intentional double posting (let alone 5 in a row) is against the rules and you can get an infraction for it.

GTPlanet does not have a casual chat thread, so much of the chats, esspecially when setting up races with others are organised from a link in this thread

btw, who cares how many times i post? it's relevant to the topic and i'm just trying to attract interest for those still online...

is there something wrong with that because if there is i humbly appologize

didn't see that. i'm done

I should point out that your connection (in terms of ADSL or cable) doesn't need to be any faster just because your playing with people from other parts of the world. It's the connections your ISP routes you over to reach the other parts of the world that makes a difference.

So, to give an example, if you can play online from the UK with someone from the UK then you'll only have difficulty with someone from Japan if your ISP routes you via a poor connection to Japan.

I haven't done a lot of monitoring but an ADSL connection with 1Mb down and 128Kb up seems to be more than enough to play. I haven't measured the bandwidth to serve yet.

Im sure thats the case, I do not have any problems to connect with Japan or Northamerica. 👍
Upload is only imortant if you want to host races, which would be nice sometimes.... I think !?

Quick question: what track/pp is it now ? (not at home today)

I played a little hookey this afternoon and spent about an hour and a half racing in the new event. I am currently cut back on my up and down speed to 64kbps on account of exceeding my download limit and it was playing fine for me. You definitely do NOT need a super high speed connection to make it work. I can't say I entirely understand the technology but it looks pretty solid to me.
The next three card trick is to try and ensure this thing does grow. I think Sony could have picked a way better track and physics/tune combo but I am guessing they wanted to keep it simple. The thing for us to do is to support this event as much as we can stand putting up with the rammers etc to encourage Sony to broaden the base of global races available. I've been waiting a very long time to go head to head with Internet friends I have made and we are getting very close to that opportunity now. Let's not take it for granted and possibly blow it.
BTW NSX 02 seems to be the consistently quickest vehicle so far although they weren't getting too far ahead of my Skyline NurII and I am a mid packer at best among you guys.

I appologize if it's a bit updative, but I'm online and trying to keep u up to date...

Its called the edit button.
You are fast heading towards getting banned, double posting, let alone five-times posting is frowned upon by the moderators.

And, wow, this event is shunters x 2000. I'd love to show my support for region-free online racing, but I can't stand to race in destruction derbies for it.

Thats because lag caused by bandwidth is basically a myth. The main cause of lag is high ping times caused by either network load or distance, neither of which can be fixed on your end or by game code. It has changed with the patches but last time I checked GT5P with 16 players was using < 25KB/s down and less than < 12KB/s up. Any broadband connection can cope with this.

Lag can be caused by a lack of bandwidth IF you are stupid enough to be uploading or downloading something while trying to play online as well.

Its also called annoying your user base for the sake of over moderation. Its completely absurd that if I read and thread and wish to make replies to several different people I need to:

right click quote > open in new window, right click quote > open in new window, right click quote > open in new window, click quote, write reply, select new window, select quote, cut quote, select new window, paste quote, write reply, select new window, select quote, cut quote, select new window, paste quote, write reply, select new window, select quote, cut quote, select new window, paste quote, write reply, select new window, select quote, cut quote, select new window, paste quote, write reply and so it goes...

The current online world event is rubbish. Seems like all the people who can't drive go on there.
Can't count how many times i've been hit.

The thread title needs to be changed to: EPIC FAIL :sly:

The track is crap, the physics are lame, the opposition are wall riders and punters only, and I can't tune my car to make, say, a Mustang competitive what with its super long gears for an underpowered engine.

On a plus note, the n00bs who think they win because they punt must feel a need to "prove" themselves on the "World Stage" now, which leaves less punters in the Pro Events.

So noone answered me ,but I assume the world- event is High Speed Ring beginner level , yeah? PD are really funny, i think they can watch that races and lough up their a**es !

HSR Beginner :scared::scared::scared: Without me.... HSR means Wallsurfland & PuntersParadise... What do they think of when they decide to create events like that :grumpy::grumpy::grumpy:

👎

edit: another useful post from me today... damn, It's time to get home from work and do something useful.

To be precise lack of bandwidth can be a cause of network latency/dropped packets but it's unlikely to be at the point of your ADSL/cable connection.

Sorry to be a pedant.

@nasanu: Thanks for the stats!

Yes, it's Beginner level at HSR with the "Sports Car" class.
Yeah i see. Thanks Holden 👍

Nothing ? :sly:

Ill give it a try just for the chance of more to come !
I think i just have to think of it as last man standing destruction derby , then it might be fun !?:dopey:

Great idea poorly implemented on the surface, but the idea behind it is to make it as accessible to as many drivers as possible, hence the basic track, standard physics and simple cars. It seems PD want to benchmark a new direction for GT online and I gotta say, the lag issues appear much improved - I haven't seen such a smooth racing experience online for quite some time and never with that many cars on the track at the same time.

Could be good, might pay to keep an eye on it over the next couple of days...

I was going to post that you were nuts... But I found what you were talking about. Strange thing but that icon was ad blocked, along with a few others. Gah, my bad. All apologies. I always thought it was strange someone had not though of that option yet...

Just did a worldwide event, i cant believe they would pick the most exploitable track with standard physics, however i like the idea of non regional events and that kinda pushed away the anger i felt from some serious punters, also ddi anyone think the rubberband effect was slightly ridiculous in the races? by the 3rd turn i had a 2 second lead and by the time i exited i was in 5th, then dropped to 10th then finished 4th

I'm assuming this event was designed as a test for future global competition. Not much in terms of lag and load times are extremely fast. I'll do my part and participate in this "global crash fest" but I can't do more than a few races at a time. Standard physics just isn't my cup of tea and allows for every basher in the world to shine on a global stage. I think I now have an understanding of what it's like to be a medical laboratory rat and it's very painful indeed.

haha i agree i hope it succeeds in them lifting region locks for all races, but it is a serious punt fest, actually ive never seen such blatent ramming and blocking in any other race

OMG

Wow they get desperate when they're getting spanked. Wall Surfing and using me as a cushion for kamikazee moves in turns 2 and 3. That's the only way they could catch me.

Had a [ES] driver in a NSX hit me in the esses 2 times, then he hit me on the back stretch 4 times HARD until he finally spun me.

LMAO

Confirmed: PAL is equally as bad as NTSC

I'm one an done with the World Event...for now

haha ill check it out from time to time i think they should mix up some tracks, PP, or at least car types, cuz STD sports cars at HSR is gonna get old

Just had 1 race on this garbage and that is all I needed  total punting and ramming all the way .... what a load of Bollocks!!!!

Never again :P

well the punting and ramming happens on all regions that was made obvious to me today, i hope PD doesnt see this as a failure and forget about lifting region locks

I had a surprise this morning. Normally I can't connect to onlines due to my router as some of you know, but sometimes when the host have so great connection and there's many people on the race, it does connect (for example, on Suzuka 750PP it connected 3 times one after one while Timpaqq was the host).

So I thought that global online would give me the oportunity to reach great host, and I tried to connect. It gives me lot of errors like always, but finally I could do 4 races !!! 👍

So, until I buy the next router, I'll driving on the global online one. I should tell you that with my 860kbps down / 260 kbps up, it goes perfectly without not lag. The japanese drivers are good, not many punters at all. It's fine to be able to race with you again, see you on the global one, it's not my lovely suzuka600pp or suzuka750pp.. but at least sometimes it works .

I really don't understand why the WORLD event is being run in a track already known to be a punters/wallriders paradise.

IMO, there are only two tracks to race in GT5P. Fuji and Suzuka. All others, with cheaters in them, are useless.

Hello
i have just been racing on the World Event, and to be honest what a waste of time,

first its on the worst track that has actually been in the game since GT1, and it is full of idiots who if you get around them and pass them fairly they will do anything to take you out, to be honest the world event should have been a one make race on anything but the High Speed ring,

i am not going to bother network glitches or the like because the racing is so bad it actually makes no difference if someone has a problem.

personally i will not race on this again i cant be bothered to go against people who really should go and play mario kart

ill see you on the other tracks from beginner to expert, as i like to race and have good races with a varied amount who are really fair and play the game correctly.
now a world event on a suzaka i think if you sat on the line and held back every muppet who shunts would be in the kitty litter, and then PD would have some real feedback on how to combat people who quit becuase they throw their toys out of there prams, personally i think the world event for testing servers and the like, makes no odds to me, i will race any one from any country and there are more than enough fair players from europe

I haven't tried it yet, probably will (once) and then forget it's there.

I think they picked this specific event to generate maximum participation. HSR is popular with the masses, and beginner level makes it very accessible. I'm guessing they just want to get as many people playing from around the world so they can see how it works out.

Hopefully a harbinger of things to come!

LOL private rooms with my respectable friends or bust 4 me, won't even try with the n00bs, etc. out there.

Jerome

Now they need to put in a PRO race! I really don't understand the standard race only. If they watch online at all, they know 90% of standard physics is punt city!!! Bring on the world PRO RACING!!!!!!
