GT6 AI Experiences Thread

So with the first hour of the game i've already had a cool experience with the AI.

I had the Honda Fit in the Amature Cup: Race 2 and there was an MR-S in the race that was nuts. I first took notice in the last lap when it seemed like he was trying really hard to stop me from drafting by swerving on the road. That was disturbing at first, still i managed to keep up and pass him. I then passed the the next two cars getting into first. I thought i was safe but checking in my rear view mirror that MR-S was coming FAST.

The dude skillfully passed the other two cars by driving like a mad man and made a B-line for me. I was so amazed i nearly messed up, but kept my position by blocking him till the finish line.

E. Wulf, that was a good race sir.

Might upload the replay when i get a chance. EDIT: gah it won't let me save it? :(

Since the AI seems to be so improved this time around, anyone have any experiences they want to share?

E. Wulf is a very good driver!

I have noticed a major AI flaw though: They seem to be braking with almost 100% brakes for a lot of the turns. Grand Valley Speedway East Course, I am reeling in a Toyota Starlet Glanza on the approach to turn 4 (brow of the hill). He stamped on the brakes so severely that the rear wheels of his car lifted clean off the ground at least two feet. Similarly I have noticed the other AI braking so hard that their cars are pitching forward to the extent that the chin spoilers are scraping the ground!

Yeah i noticed this too, makes overtaking too easy. i don't see it all the time but i do see it often.

Mine is TERRIBLE! I'm going to post a video but I just won a race using only 2nd gear! With 100pp less than the ai.

The max pp is not an indicator for the pp of the cars, i did all the novice races except the championship with a stock fit, the championship was just adding mufflers and sports computer which was also a challenge.

I've found the AI to once again be very weak just no challenge , im really hoping the further I progress the harder they get , im in national B at the moment and there just to easy even with lesser tyres and 100 pp less im still wiping the floor with them.

And whats with the stamping on the brakes at every bend ?

So wish this game had a difficulty slider.

Well... I am quite disappointed about AI. It's definitely again ducks in a row... and if you hit the ducks they almost brake...
I hope that the version Jordan tested, is coming in the next updates.. because it definitely seems we,again, did not get it..

The AI is terribly slow at least until iB license races. If that is by design then its a poor choice by PD. Why can't I have some fun in low/medium (any!) powered cars against fast AI drivers? I got bored in career mode and I am not even sure if there is anything to look forward to (do they get quicker?) I wish there were AI skill levels to set. Underpowering you car does not help to bring any sensation of racing - it can make any event hard but not in the way that is enjoyable. I love driving in GT6 and amount of content is staggering but its not a good single player racing game. This time I was hopping again for better AI but it might be that PD is just designing the game with something else in mind.

Licenses and time trials are still great:)

Jordan had his famous encounter with the FTO in arcade mode with the AI on professional setting, so i don't know if there's much hope for the career mode...

Anyway the whole system with rolling starts, and you starting at the back is just to disguise the lack of challenge in the first place, imagine if you started in third place on a fixed grid; it would be a very lonesome experience straight away.

When you use a car that is far under the PP limit until A license, you will notice the AI has gotten agressive! :D Because the AI is very slow until IB I would recommend taking a slow car.
They really try to take you over and they are trying to play dirty all the time. I think it has definetly improved!

Severely handicapping yourself was also the trick in GT5, but then you have to find the balance of having a challenge with the majority of the bots and still being able to catch that rabbit before the laps run out.

Reports say they programmed Bugs Bunny to slow down in the last lap tough, so you could catch up on him...

They can do better. PD has probably some of the most talented people in game development profession. I am afraid that its a design choice and it won't change whatever the next gen hardware capabilities. GT follows its own way...

Just got the National A Licence and I've haven't noticed any improvement over GT5's AI at all.

Hopefully it'll go up a notch at some point in the career mode, as of now I'm extremely disappointed tbh.

Some of the videos I've seen made the ai look at least competent in the higher levels.

Here's to hoping for something good in iA or S.

This has been my experience too. Used a stock Miata through some of the first races in B license and while they brake too much for the turns I've seen them block, dive bomb, overtake and battle me two wide through a turn. They're still easy to beat because they slow down so much for the turns but they're much more dynamic than GT5. Not saying the AI is perfect but if you hang around them you'll see them do some interesting things.

Best AI experience in the game thus far:

GT-R Showdown Mission Race at Silverstone. Check it out.

Up until this point, I hadn't noticed much difference.

But the red GTR you have to hunt down is a tinker.

You pass him and then he is right on your tail and then tries to out brake you into the copse complex.

He got so aggressive with me on the start and finish straight that he pit manoeuvred me in the middle of the straight. Felt like I was online ;)

It shows that the AI is at least capable of some reality/aggression if it is setup right.

I just had a great race with an AI driving comparable car! It was first race of iA touring car championship. The leading car was doing laps of 2:09.xxx until I came through the pack from 16th place. After I overtook it pushed me like crazy doing laps of 1:58.0xx and 1:57.1xx which was just my pace exactly. I won the race just 0.180 in front!

Dis I mention the cars were almost identical?!!! Great job PD, it does get better!

Update: Next race and the same story. AI clearly waited for me (had a crash on lap 2) doing 10 to 15 seconds slower than on the last two laps when they where on my bumper all the time. Why can't we have standing starts and fighting AI from the beginning of the race???

I'd agree having a slower car early on does help the ai be competitive. I'm fine with that though, I get no fun out of breezing through races, and even better ai wouldn't help that.

I'm certainly not in a slower car. But about even. If it wasn't for their hard breaking I might not pas as well as I do.

Went onto SS Route X in Arcade mode with AI aggression set to max, and on professional mode. It's a flatout oval with 10km straights, not exactly difficult for the AI, right?

Well, the AI backs off when you are side by side with them anyway, even if you leave a few feet of room, and if you keep backing off so will they until you both come to a near stop. C'mon PD, seriously.

On a positive note, it's incredibly easy to P.I.T maneuver those simpletons now and send them into several 360 spins.

Mine are actually decent. I have had some serious battles going on, even some dirty moves from them! I am actually very happy about this, and it made GT6 really fun for me.

I don't know the AI seems a tad better than GT5. Yes they basically slam on the brakes in turns but I also notice in some turns the AI cars will take up the whole track or if you are side by side will try to block the racing Line or even brake as late as you do going into turns.

I agree guys.... even though I had the impression that it was even too much ... it was like the opponent car was boosted some time... I had it far from me and then again in the mirrors...

Mine has occasionally blocked me, given me a little kiss in corner or moved out of the way.. In other words, it's improvement over the "see no evil, hear no evil, do no evil" AI of GT5.

This, passed it early in the lap but the gap at the end was like 2 tenths or something. Great fun.
