GT6 is apparently not a racing game...

Gran Turismo has always had a broader focus than strictly racing around a circuit. That's the core of progression through the game, but it's not the only thing the game is about. To paraphrase, both Kazunori Yamauchi and Dan Greenawalt have claimed that GT and Forza are a "celebration of the car" of sorts. It makes sense to me.

Genre: Online Car Life Simulator

Because, Asia?

How about Kaz wanting to add a free roam mode where you have to obey traffic laws, more car maintaince gimmicks added to GT Auto in GT5, and things like museum cards?

...but an "online car life simulator".

Anyone want to give their thoughts on what this exactly means?

Since the first game GT was a specific and unique RPG game, where every vehicle was an RPG character basically. Prospect of maintenance services and consequences of ownership in later games vastly broadened that formula. I always called GT games a CARPG games.

With increase of online and community options, the new description of the "genre" perfectly fits into unique GT philosophy.

I am looking forward discovering all new improvements regarding "car life" aspects of the series.

That makes sense. Seeing GT6 being called an "online car life simulator" made me ask myself some questions like: What would Kaz add to GT first if he had unlimited resources? How important is the actual racing to him in GT?

That's pretty much the way I see it and think. And that's why I judge so important features such the used car dealership, gt auto car maintenance, etc.

Sure, why not. Here are my thoughts:

It means absolutely nothing. All other regions (that I've checked) has genre listed as "to be decided". I'd be surprised if Hong Kong were the only region who were told what it actually is. It's far more likely that it's some intern who saw that the info was missing and though "hm, if I were to describe this game, what would I call it?" and then entered it on the site.

And as such, this sort of topic is 100% sensational and 0% trustworthy.

There you had it.

I like the sound of "online car life simulator" actually. It fits GT really well if you think about it. :)

Okay, we need more online features, such as online car dealership where players can sell their cars in for other players to buy. :D

Let me start over. What you said is possible, but that thought didn't occur to me, because GT has a bunch of things that have nothing to do with actual racing. In addition, Kaz mentions wanting to add things like a free roam mode where we would have to obey traffics laws. Going by this, it's not unreasonable to think Kaz views GT as a "online car life simulator" for a lack of a better term. Hence, my question.

Maybe I took the page too literally but it just got me thinking what will Kaz do with GT on PS4 and beyond and where does actual racing rank on his priority list.

Means nothing? Hardly. This could be PD's acknowledgment that the focus of the game from now on is online. Let's face it, online in GT5 was an afterthought and nowhere near what it could have been. Perhaps with this change after 15 years the game will morph away from a heavy offline focus and more resources will be dedicated to the online portion of the game. Where that leaves ASpec/Career Mode etc. remains to be seen. Hopefully they put some major work into that as well, best of both worlds and all that.

Online Car Life Simulator. A Car Lifestyle is what comes first in my mind, catering to gearheads like us. Sure an emphasis is placed in the online segment, but it doesn't change the fact that being a hardcore fan of GT is a lifestyle already, and one I say with pride (even after the GT5 issues) :gtpflag:

Genre is supposed to be a broad category into which similar articles are placed.

PD have intentionally chosen something so obscure and specific that no other game will be placed in that genre.

It means nothing, it's marketing gibberish. For normal people, it should read "Genre: Racing".

But... all you do in GT is race.

Ok ok, besides the updated photo mode and ability to Free Run online...

..but still mostly race.

👍
It's crazy what people do to get money.

Maybe I'm confused but how does that make PD money?

It's more of their normal advertising schtick about placing GT on a pedestal. See 1000 cars/1200 cars. Weather and day night transitions (on very limited tracks). Leaderboards (on a few seasonals).

It's yet another thing to make people think that GT is some special and unique snowflake, where the truth is it's just a good racing game.

Sorry if that sounds bitter, but I don't see what's wrong with just being a good racing game.

I understand what you are saying but it's marketing and PR so who cares? That's what marketing and PR does, make statements that their product is the most unique and best product on the market, whether it is completely true or not. PD is no different than every other game studio in that regard. I've played some bad games that had awesome press or statements from the developers about how they are the best at whatever genre they are offering. Some of them have been racers other GT, some have been GT's. I try to look past that stuff and see the product.

If you think of it, yes, it's more about car culture, when GT5 went online everyone thought every room would be race, race, race, race and race, but instead you had the obvious racing along with other things that no one could have predicted like time trial rooms, drift rooms, cruising rooms, make rooms, JDM rooms, muscle car rooms, stance rooms, etc,. the list goes on, so on that basis I think GT is more about "online car life" ie = car culture.

Online Car Life Simulator?

Dear Diary:
Today my owner thrashed me around the track! It was a really big rush, but I really was hoping for some better tyres. My pressures really weren't brilliant, I am sure I could have done better than I did. My boss sure seemed pleased with my handling though, but that last chicane was a really pain. My brakes are still hot the heavy use. I should call Brembo soon. Anyway, got to get back to work!

That's what I see as an OCLS :P
The Sims: Car Edition.

Just to show GT isn't the only game with PR speak:

Taken from the official fact sheet.

“Forza Motorsport 5” is a cinematic automotive journey starring the world’s greatest cars and tracks. Built from the ground up to take advantage of Xbox One and the vast power of the cloud, no game better delivers the wide-eyed thrill of racing.

There are some other gems in there as well.

it means you buy a car , rag it and then sell it on or scrap it....with maybe some serious racing in the middle...
that would be my take
