Isn't slower feeling better? I mean you can get better lines and passing lanes :)

The discussion of FoV is as old as racing sims themselves. It basically comes down to personal preference (so we really should have the option, in both directions - wider as well as narrower). On the PC side of things, you have hardware considerations (screen resolution and aspect ratio, mostly) which may affect the optimal FoV setting for a given individual, as well. Plus the distance and physical size of the display.

A wider FoV gives a better sense of speed (because you can see more of the periphery, which "moves" faster) and obviously provides more information of positioning vs. other cars etc., whereas a narrower FoV gives better detail in the centre of your virtual "vision", so it's easier to see yaw, spot apices, parallax etc.

A narrower FoV works better as an extension of the field of view were the display to be considered as a "window", for typical viewing distances and screen sizes. But having a "physically correct" FoV like that often results in unacceptable loss of information, since the scene will be heavily cropped.

Having a display that actually fills your vision is the only way to get all advantages, I think. A triple-screen setup, for instance, allows you to run a natural, narrow FoV on the centre screen, but you get the periphery and sense of speed, space and awareness from the other two screens. I'm hoping HMDs like the Rift can do a similar thing.

I feel you! I used that secret option in GT5 aswell and its awesome:dunce:
But yeah as you said it blows my mind too! As more options as better but as we all know PD does what they want. And if Kaz likes his narrow FOV then we can't change it :scared:

I don't understand him though. I saw pictures where he sat right in front of a huge TV with his wheel. When I do that I feel like not moving even going at like 200km/h feels like snail racing. It really bothers me. When I do the same on a PC Sim and adjust the FOV I'm totally fine doing this. Even the other game on the Xbox has a way wider FOV to prevent that... But well... what can we do?! :indiff:

can someone start a petition?

GT have the correct fov for a matching 1:1 scale when you consider the sitting distance and the screen size, that's the reason because Kaz sits in front to a big screen. That view gives him the closest to being in a real car and the sense of distances, scale and driving becomes more natural. The extra sense of speed is given with a triple screen setup when you can realistically fill the sides of your view.

A wider fov or fish eye effect is not realistic or natural, just a compression trick to simulate more field of view in a single screen and often used more in arcades than in simulators. Distances becomes less precise and the scale gets distorted in order to increased the sense of speed.

Even in the other game some try to avoid that:

Anyway it would be an interesting option for an hypothetical GT6-Pro to anyone who wants to tune a custom GT to its liking or whatever is used in other games.

People generally have their FOV set far too high. Read here to understand more:

The short version is there is no one-size-fits-all FOV that is correct. It changes depending on screen size and distance from viewer. It absolutely needs to be adjustable in a simulator, to allow people to key into their naturally developed sense of scale and distance.

Well since I'd say like 95% (my suggestion) people are using a single screen set up playing Gran Turismo, because buying 3x PS3's is vey unlikely for one game, it should have an adjustable one. So everybody can set it up as the personal preferences are. But being forced to play it as it is isn't the right way imo.
Anyways I played around with the FOV in GT5 and for me I found out a degree of 59° is perfect for GT. Hope I can adjust it in GT6.

I'm surprised PD hasn't announced the new dash cam function in GT6 at IgroMir.

Technically thats already in the game with replays. Maybe they can cut the quality some

Haha! Even humanoid animals are playing GT6, amazing.

That's just a person in a fursuit, nothing special as we already know people did playing GT6. Now we can get back to on topic for talk about new screenshots and videos little later?

That's just a person in a fursuit...

Oh God, really? I thought it was some disturbing tiger/human halfbreed. Love child of Tigger and Miley Cyrus. It has it's mother's eyes.

Thank goodness you were here to point the fursuit out. I was losing all faith in humanity's ability to not stick it in anything that wriggles.

I was only kidding. :P

You will never get a sense of speed from a tv unless you A have a bad camera or B the edges of the screen are artificially burred. We get our sense of speed in a car due to our periphery vision.. our periphery while looking at a tv is of our rooms. GT has never used to my knowledge all the dodgy sense of speed techniques other games use.
