WRX is the new Bathurst meta you say? time to bust out the world's greatest livery 😎

With thanks to @MidnightRun85 of course for the design

Nice to be able to run this again and it be competitive.

Just started with the daily races and I'm currently at 1:26 at Laguna. Want to get it down to 1:22 or 1:23. Feel like the first corner I just don't take right at all and lose time as well as the corner before the funky twist. Using the 911 and the Vette at the moment. Should I just start by doing the circuit experience?
Circuit Experience is a good place to start but to be honest I find its better to spend a good half hour to hour just doing laps on the Quali Time Trial. Circuit Experience you are given a car use where as the daily race TT you can use obviously the 911 & the corvette.
One thing I do sometimes is to run my own custom daily race against the AI. I like to do a couple of practice race runs where you can get use to how the tyres and fuel reacts during the race. On the TT run the tyres don’t degrade and this catches me out sometimes as braking points can change a little bit.

Gotcha, good advice. I'm running a G29 right now and I do kinda feel a disconnect at times between the wheel and the car. Is it better with a better wheel? Like sometimes I feel like I'm going to brake fine and I overshoot it or undershoot it. Hairpins specifically are brutal for me.

If there are things I've noticed about my own driving since I've started to take a more casual approach to the game is that it's become much more rewarding to me to have a clean race. To give a car time in front to recover from a small mistake, to give space going into the corner and give way if an overtake is too risky. To just look for a more enjoyable drive than being obsessed with gaining every position. Not that I was dirty at all before but I would definitely take chances, some stupid, some borderline with my gains vs. ruining some elses race, and the change has felt a lot more satisfying.

The acceptance that I'm probably not going beyond B at this point, and that that's okay has led to me searching more for a good, clean race than a higher position, and making sure as much as I can that the players around also get the same result. Whether they appreciate it or not

Definitely improved my mental health when competing online and not just in GT and in turn it helps me notice the other drivers around who are doing the same and prioritising fairness above results.
It even improved my results. I would also risk everything to gain a position. But the times it backfires do not weigh up to the times it works.

Interesting this weeks Daily Race C at Laguna Seca, the mega car is the 911, the track in real life is a rough surface, so therefore grip levels generally are high irrespective of tyre type, yes there is sand on the track but should not impact a lap time. I thought the 911 was interesting, the engine is mid engined but still over the rear axle meaning your tyre wear on the track would be worse than say a front engined rear drive car but not in GT7 where it’s the clear go to car

G29 is perfect wheel to learn sim racing. I don’t think a better wheel will make you any faster, but a better brake pedal helps. A load cell pedal allows you more control on the brake, where as the Logitech pedal is more a on/off type. You can buy a modification for the Logitech (trubrake I think it’s called) if you dont want to spend loads of money.
Also if you’ve only just switched to a wheel it takes time to get up to speed. Took me a good 6 months to get to a good standard I’m happy with, but obviously since then Im always improving.

@GrumpyOldMan It was nice to see you on the track. I figured the only way to help was to get behind you and block.
It was a bummer to see you crash, because I was gonna stop anyone from getting close to you.
I suppose I should have let you know to just put into cruise control, because if you're a GTP member, you're my teammate, and as safe as can be. I suppose I could have dropped back a little more, so you wouldn't feel pressured.
Good job, nonetheless. 👍

The RSR is actually closer to a mid-engined car as they moved the engine further forward to fit a bigger diffuser. Not sure if GT’s physics model this? Shame the class it’s in, GTE, is going away.

I’ve been wondering this too. I find with the G29 it’s hard to place the front end precisely. I’m missing lots of apexes at Laguna this week. Of course it might be me and not the wheel!

I’ve driven Laguna irl and my lines were a lot cleaner!

I switched from controller to G29 3 weeks ago and wanted to cry. The precision was there but the turning circle was horrible and was losing a lot of time having to slow down a lot more to make tight turns.

Today I installed the G Hub on laptop and connected the wheel, reduced degrees of rotation from 900 to 360° and increased all sensitivity from 50 to 55.

Before today I was so angry as my best wheel time was 1.5 seconds slower than my best controller time. After 4 laps with the new settings i went 2 tenths faster 🎉

It will take time to relearn that i can now brake later, turn earlier and accelerate better but already, after 20 minutes, hell of a difference! Try it!

Good job to you.
I gave up.
I bought a G29, and couldn't make it drive worth a damn.
Then I bought a Thrustmaster T300 RS. A little better, but similar results.
I sold the G29, and the T300 is still in my closet. 👍

Can understand your frustration on been slower with a wheel than your pad. When F1 2021 came out this is when I switched to a wheel and I was slow. I never did any online racing as I wasn’t really interested in online racing. GT7 was my first real experience with online racing and having that year to get up to speed made online racing really enjoyable for me. I guess in your situations, switching between pad and wheel I can see why the frustrations kicks in as you know your faster than what you are, and I guess DR/SR is taking a hit too in transitioning.

Here's something you don't see every day, at Mount Panorama - 3 across The Cutting:

3 Across 1.jpg

It ended with less carnage than you'd expect. Except for me - I was too busy watching in fascination to remember that I had to steer too.

Thanks for that - I wondered what the heck you were doing! My brain decided to take a break during that race, and a few races afterwords. I have fairly severe ADD, and depending on when I've taken my medication, it can be really hard to stay focused during races. It's still a lot of fun, but I'm not consistent by any means.

"Look - a squirrel!" Or in the case of racing - "What is that guy behind me doing?" followed by me crashing into a wall.

2 more races this evening for me. My qualifying time is the same as last time which didn't send too far back in the grid.

Race 1 has me in P10 in a another A/B rank room which has me start at the apex of Hell Corner and that was was inconvenient. Everyone raced clean from what I saw with no dumb overtake attempts. Surprisingly, there were only single car accidents coming down the mountain. Overall, an enjoyable race where I finish P7 with a clean race bonus.

Race 2 is more of the same only I start P8 on the grid. Again, more clean and respectful racing for the most part. One driver made a lunge at Quarry Bend which I defended and we go side by side into the Cutting with me on the inside. I make it through fine, but the outside driver taps the wall. Not the best idea, but we didn't make any contact so we continued on. Another diver makes what I thought was a dirty lunge also in the Cutting, but the replay shows I left just enough space and they made the pass with some very minor contact. I wasn't expecting the pass and was caught completely off guard. I try and catch up but I can't and finish P7 again with another clean race bonus.

Another good night at Mt. Panorama with some decent finishes for me. I only went deep into the Chase once but I had a good lead over the cars behind me so it made no difference. I think this was a good combo despite it becoming an almost WRX one make race. It was a good challenge to navigate the track with other drivers and trying not destroy each other. It will also probably be the end of the week for me. The weekend tends to bring the more dirty drivers and I don't want any part of that.

Holy **** you guys did you notice the patch update put a stop to "my car is destroyed because I was next to a wall"?

Like yeah, if you bin it you're still getting damage, but even then it seems to fall off faster if it's lighter contact, and it doesn't appear to ruin your steering as much as it used to.

Very light contact doesn't give you damage at all. I was able to push through the sector between the Cutting and Skyline and a few times brushed the wall in the double left section without damage at all. I know I touched it because I felt the vibration and saw some sparks but nothing happened to me.

Saw GrumpyOldMan again in the lobby but he bailed before the race ended :(

Had a few good scraps with a guy named Caesar from Brazil. I took one, he took the other. Clean guy, fun to race.
Overall dropped my qualifying time down to a mid 2:12 which still isn't lightning fast compared to the top times but it's good enough to start top 3 in my lobbies tonight.

Good times for sure

It only worked for them because their names all start with "A". Any mis-matching or any other letters and it ends in carnage.

New physics tune for the normal GTR in race A.

You are using a very long gearing there. I did quite the opposite so far, but I'll give that a try.

Still on P60 last time I checked, and I still haven't managed to get a consistent lap without letting three or for tenths on the track. It feels a bit weird that I seem to be way better with that crazy machine than with the regular cars in Races B and C. And it's really fun to drive it, I'd recommend it to everyone who hasn't tried.

The bad part is that I'm doing more and more TT / qualifying and less and less actual races. Seems that I just don't want the trouble of dealing with other drivers on the road... just like in real life*. 🤣

(*where, admittedly, I don't get punted quite as often as in GT7)

The fastest time worldwide is using longer gears and from what I can tell it helps. Also I tested the NISMO with the same tune and it's almost a tenth faster but the safety car is way off now. It's at least a quarter second off.

Yeah I feel I need to upgrade my wheel but don't have the money for it. I feel like I'm going backwards in comparable speed to others. It's not all the wheel of course but I do feel she's showing her age.
This will never happen again so I’m milking it for all its worth. Get in! 😃

Saw you were up there earlier in the week. I remember a year or so back how nervous you were going into DR A. You deserve to hold your head up high.
I'm looking at those times, then looking at my time, and wondering how the actual fork can I find 5+ seconds per lap?!
Amazing time, well done!
Pretty much feel the same, even after all this time. Best thing is to just concentrate on the times of those immediately around you and maybe find the tenths to beat them rather on the new alien.
what is GTP?
You're on it Son!

I take back what I said yesterday, hot lapping is one thing but racing is another. I've only driven the alfa at bathurst since the physics changes but they have completely ruined the experience. At the cutting, dipper and the chase I am holding my breath, the brake balance is way, way too much to the rear and she wants to swap ends. Hate it.

It's particularly bad at the chase, unless ABSOLUTELY ARROW STRAIGHT she swaps ends, like come on guys. Sucking the fun out of the game.

That's interesting, because I find the new physics seem to help me during the race. Although I won't deny the rear end gets a little twitchy at times. But then again, that's true in real life for me, so maybe I'm just used to it.

I love the fact the damage has been changed. I don't have to clench when I get close to walls now. As for the lobby, two things: 1) I'm terrible with names, so I probably wouldn't realize who you were, and 2) Unless I've got something to say, I've been getting out of the lobbies quickly, so someone doesn't say something that'll tick me off. ;p
