Poor @Leon Kowalski was getting some abuse due to the loading bug!
I went from 10th to 3rd - but considering 11 cars quit before the start, it wasn't such a great achievement 🙈
And I couldn't even read all that stuff, because I just saw a frozen screen and waited for it to unfreeze, like it happens sometimes... so that didn't bother me at all...🤣

Race C, which is a better strategy with Audi TT?
  • Fuel-saving, 14 laps RM + 1 lap RH
  • No fuel-saving, 11 laps RM + 4 laps RH

How much does fuel-saving cost you in lap times? If you are 1 sec/lap slower with hards, then fuel-saving shouldn't add more than 0,2 sec/lap to be a better strategy. 🤔
If you're on manual shift I would imagine the best strategy would be either the one stop one lap or just hards all the way. I'm not sure there's been enough racing to really know what the right strat is going to be.

Did my first Race B. I think I'm going to enjoy this one but I need to find consistency; my QT sectors are all over the place. I could be mid 1:33 but currently 1:34.408.

I was P7 on the grid with quite a lot of DR B opponents. In the race I climbed to 6th but then penultimate lap got taken to drop back to 7th and that is where I finished. According to my DR tracker I still gained 420 pts for this race.

There were a lot of 911s in the field. That might be the drivers go to car even though others might be quicker. I think it is just more controllable on this circuit.

IMG_6222.JPG

I need to find another second or two of consistency in race to fend off the faster drivers behind me. I think a large part of that is that I drive kind of defensively in race to try to avoid stuffing it by over doing a turn, but I'm naturally losing time...

Below is the raw race (if you care).

EDIT: BTW, does it get dark on all races? Mine it looks like storm clouds were moving in and it was really dark at one point.

I was on a 1:32:xx lap before my last race but ran out of time before I could complete it.
I hate when that happens!
Started on pole and lead wire to wire for the win. Biggest gap was 6 seconds smallest (post start) was about 3 seconds at the finish because I bobbled going for fastest lap into the hairpin.
I just did a race where I started pole, but I faded in the last 2 laps, ending up P4. I looked at the replay, and it was just bad driving on my part. Probably spent too much time looking in the mirror.
GT-R was fast here, probably my closest competition. The BRZ definitely has a 1:32 in it for me, a skilled driver could maybe get a 1:31, maybe? I feel like I'm leaving a lot of time on the table through T1, the long triple left, the hairpin, and the chicane.
911s were my fiercest competition, along with an RX-Vision.

#monday is race A day, as usual.

That Porsche can't decide whether to understeer or to oversteer, so it does both. I needed quite some time to get used to it.

Chasing the record of @Nebuc72 for almost two hours , I ended up with a 1:37:050, actually less than half a second slower by the smallest possible margin, P39 on the global board when the controller finally fell out of my cramping hands 😆.

Now I'm half proud of myself and half pissed because I didn't crack the 1:36s...

Any time I do a grid start I tend to do much better than the people around me. I stand on the brake and accelerator on TC1 and at lights out I let off the brake. As soon as I get rolling I turn to TC0 and off I go. Tigney will use the e-brake in the same way, but I don’t have that button mapped.
Thanks for the suggestion.
I didn't try that cause I figured without an early start penalty it'd be quicker, and I wouldn't have to worry about releasing
the brake too late. But if its timed right do you think I'd get a better launch then I would without the brake?

I'm loving Race C. Started the day with barely a DR of C.... first race with BMW M4 and got 2nd, next try with Jaguar F Type and got 2nd. Now up to DR B and SR S and very happy, but running too slow in those cars to compete for podium (consistently getting around P8). Switched to the TT and doing around 6th.... Will try to RCZ suggestion tonight!

For reference getting high 1:18 / low 1:19 with Jaguar

yeah 911 appears to be the meta car. My lobbies it's being driven slower than the BRZ (I'm not the only one, I was inspired by someone being P2 with one earlier today with a really low 1:34), and the GT-R. Probs that's where I'm going to end up as I re-learn the circuit. BRZ is super controllable but slow if you rev to the top of the range from 3rd to 4th onwards. If you short shift it you're just as quick

Bullwinkle, do you think holding in the clutch and dropping it when the lights turn green would work instead of the e-brake? or does it not quite work that way

Thanks for the tip! I had tried the BRZ and it wasn't too bad but ultimately found the 911 a little quicker. But I had been playing with short shifting but hadn't figured out which cars benefitted from this and in what gears. I will give this ago on the BRZ. I feel like there could be a 1:33.x in me somewhere...

What is the definition of short shift? About where in the rev line do you change?

I haven’t tried this race, so I couldn’t tell you, but it’s always what I’ve done before so it’s what I’ll do this time too. I’ll let you know if my results vary.

I honestly don’t know about that one. I use paddles so I can’t do that.

Just had the most soul destroying 5 hours at Race C. Couldn't get on with the TT so tried a few other cars (mustang is brutal). Settled on the gtr and did just 1 qualifying lap 1:19.072, could easily shave another second off that. Anyway, the racing was scandalous, not 1 race where I didn't get ****ed off the track in the first 2 laps. I didn't see 1 single penalty given all evening. Really , it was a disgrace. I know being stuck at C/S doesn't help but I have never been as p*ssed off as I am now 🤬🤬🤬

I'm shifting about halfway through the rev line once I get into 4th gear. 3rd is a 3/4 shift point into 4th. That's where I'm most comfortable and getting the most acceleration.

Like you notice it the most from 4 to 5 and 5 to 6. The BRZ really drops off towards the top of the rev range in those two gears. For example running it to red line in 5th before 6th on the start/finish stretch you enter the braking zone somewhere around 145-150. Shifting into 6th half way through the rev range and you enter the braking zone somewhere between 150-155.

I got a 1:33:9xx basically the second lap around with it. I know there's a lower 1:33 in it for sure, and maybe on a godlike lap (for me) a 1:32

Just jumped into Race B. Love Dragon Trail and did my usual run of my batting order of cars. Vette/Vantage/AMG/Stang/Vision/911. Initial returns were the Vantage at 1:33.4 but jumped in the trusty Mustang and managed to blitz out a 1:32.644. Felt like I still left some out there at the triple chicane and the hairpin so I know I have a low 1:32 in me.

This game is gorgeous btw. Love this track with the big mountain in the back. Will probably try to get at least one scapes pic of my ride of choice each week.

Just in case this can help you: start on hards and pit in at the end of lap 1 for mediums. Fuel refuel and then minor short shifting needed. You will avoid 95% of the chaos of lower lobbies if you survive to the first lap. It's the safest way for the race but a bit "boring" since you will be racing alone most time.

I always release the brake when it's transitioning from 1 to start. Don't wait for the word start to display. I think there is a certain amount of tolerance to account for lag. I haven't got a penalty yet and always get a minor jump compared to those around me.

I hope this works out as I just spent 450,000 on this. Lol.

Currently I’m about a second off my 911 time but I do love how it drives. Currently I’m not seeing the short shift improvement. More practice to do….

EDIT: I'm still stuck in the 1:35s with this. With my paint job I think the car looks sick and it drives nice but I'm not sure it is a 1:33 car in my hands. I might get it into the 1:34s with more work. With the short shifting I found I can hit ~152 before braking into turn 1. The ghost (GTR) I was following was going 154, so the BRZ can't get up to GTR top end. It hangs with the ghost in the corners but loses it on the straights..

SECOND EDIT: I went back to the 911, gave it a nice paint job and hit the track... Out lap I was 1:34.x and second lap I was 1:33.8x. I decided to stick with the 911. It works for me.

This! If you want to add a little more spice don't fuel and save the 2 seconds. Stay in 5th around the long corner.

Love that piece, Pachelbel’s Canon. First heard it 40 years ago played by a quartet of students in Manchester. Was so moved by it that I stopped and stared along with over 100 other folks. I asked the students what it was after they had finished. Still as hauntingly beautiful as when I first heard it back in the 80’s.

Melancholy mode paused, normal service may now resume.

Enjoyed some B race action while I’m still competitive early week racing. Did laps with the stable and solid 911 until I had it around 1:33 flat then went to the AMG and put 1:32.8 in a couple of laps but it tried to kill me too many times just like it was during yesterday’s practice laps. Finally settled in with the Aston as it was most consistent for me yesterday and nearly the fastest times I was putting in so why not.

Started racing with the 1:32.8 and first race P10 to start. Bumped p9 in t1 so I waited until he went by then started back up at p16. Fought back to p9 and then at the line I still gave the place back to the p9 from the start since I passed him on a late penalty he got.

Race 2 started P3 and got creamed in t1. Karma? 😉 Dropped to p15. Fought back with all I had and ended p5.

Race 3 p3 to start and finished p2 when p1 & p2 got in a tangle and I moved up a position.

In between races I did a couple laps and dropped to 1:32.7 and scored a pole on my final attempt. Stayed ahead the entire race with the trusty Aston which didn’t try to kill me and I finished p1 for my final Monday fix.

DR/B probably 75% is where I’m at on alt as I’m still recovering from Laguna a couple of weeks ago. Last week was fun and this one seems like a decent race too because 6 laps allows for making up time if you get into trouble.
We’ll see how it unfolds as the days go by.

I will try again tonight. Unfortunately I no longer have my rig due to lack of space so I am back to the 🎮 and I find using the manual box a pain with the 🎮. Unfortunately my qualifying time has me starting mid pack and even though the gtr is good on hards at the start it doesn't account for the lower runners blowing me off. Bit of a no win situation 🤣

EDIT: I just uploaded my QT replay for Dragon Trail, 1:32.640 in the V12 Vantage. It's in Showcase, search for tag "gtp6". It's not pretty, but it may help some of you. Or not.

I don't get along with the GT-R on this track, either. Loving the V12 Vantage - it just fits me
I’m glad we are friends in the game. I spent an hour turning 1:33’s with the GT-R yesterday. I saw your time with the Aston Martin and decided to give it a try. I turned my current QT on my second lap with the Vantage. I’ll have to watch your video this evening and compare our laps since they are just about identical times.

Still driving the GT-R in the races as I can turn fairly consistent laps with it. The AM gets squirrelly with me on corner exit.

This car makes it's lap times cornering moreso than anything else. I'm finding myself carrying most of my speed through the triple left, the esses between that triple and the hairpin, and through the final corner. If I'm not doing 130 coming off of the rumble strips exiting the last turn I took it poorly. You can absolutely be doing 115-120 through that corner in the BRZ and I can't carry that much speed in anything else. I hope it works out for you, I don't want to be the cause of wasted credits :(

I don't mind spending the credits as it's a sick looking car and I have fun driving it. However, my 911 is faster.
IMG_6224.JPG

I further shaved time off that with another session so there's no denying that these times were much easier in the 911 as I was unable to get into the 1:34s with the BRZ with many more sessions. The BRZ probably needs a better driver than I to maximize its cornering capabilities though. For instance I'm unable to trail brake through T1 and accelerate out but perhaps that is the nature of that turn. The best I can do is brake in before turn, hold the curve at something like 60 and then accelerate when pointing down the straight.

I'll continue to swap between the BRZ and 911 to see how they play out. I must admit it would be fun to be competitive is something that is not one of the dominate cars (911, GTR..).

Speaking of T1. After getting a decent (for me) QT I decided to do my second race B. I was unable to drive much last night as my son got a new game and kicked me off his PS5. How uncaring he is! LOL. Anyway, I qualified in P7 and as I was gaining on P6 into T1 and the initial speeds were slower than full pace I went down the inside for a tighter turn! Bad move and the embarrassment! I spun out and then getting going again I spun out again! 🤦‍♂️ P7 to P16 first turn. Not good. I must remember about cold tires and extra fuel on lap one... Luckily ahead, three more has spun out on the first lap and someone left the race, so by lap 2 so I was up to P11. By lap 4 I could see quite a pack in front of me so I knew I was gaining (1:35 lap 2 and a 1:34.x lap 3). Very motivational! Lap 4 was slower as I could not easily get round a glitchy P10. But on lap five, both I and P10 took a spot from someone with a penalty so I jumped to P10. If I had had more laps I think I could have got back into the top half, given I was lapping a second or 2 higher than those immediately in front, but passing was a challenge and I had a slight wobble on a curb that lost me a few seconds so I settle in to finish P10. I lost DR on that race but I was happy with my improved pace.

Highlights..

BTW, can I "friend" some of you? While we'll probably never meet in a lobby given our vastly different driver's rating It would be fun for me to see your lap times on the leader board for me to chase after. Then again, that might be depressing as it might reinforce how mediocre I am! LOL.

I apparently have not done much if any laps at DT gardens reverse. I am a fan of the track going forwards so i figured i give it a try. Wow, big mistake. An jour and a half of doing laps with 3 races mixed in, and i just can't get my head around this track. Every turn feels awkward and i can't seem to even run the race at the back to try and learn, cuse i eating the wall every few laps.

Will try again tonight, but am not expecting different results.

Said it before and I'll say it again, i will accept any friend request as long as it says gtp in it. I do not accept blank ones

It's funny you mention that. I was sidetracked yesterday by just how beautiful the landscape is. Fortunately it was a QT. Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks so.

Coming back to P5 is awesome! That's the kind of thing that makes me feel really good. In last weeks B, I never felt much of a chance to come back. Good to know it's possible on this course.
In between races I did a couple laps and dropped to 1:32.7 and scored a pole on my final attempt. Stayed ahead the entire race with the trusty Aston which didn’t try to kill me and I finished p1 for my final Monday fix.

That's pretty cool. And it's kind of amazing how each of us can feel "right" with different cars. We talk a lot about the bad things with this game, but I have to admit it seems like they've done a good job recently in Daily Race Bs of allowing different cars to be competitive.
Still driving the GT-R in the races as I can turn fairly consistent laps with it. The AM gets squirrelly with me on corner exit.
I think TCS 1 is a good compromise in this track, with all the sharp turns.
BTW, can I "friend" some of you?
I can't remember if we're "friends" or not, but if not, sure! A lot of us have our PSN under our avatars, and I think everyone should consider doing that.

To me, this is a track that was initially hard to understand, then it clicked in a span of a few Q laps. Not that I was suddenly perfect, but it started making sense. I encourage you to watch a replay of one or more leaders, and I like to record the replay so I can refer back to it. IMO this is a fun race and worth the effort to learn the track. Of course, YMMV.

My first session I was like WTF! But now with some practice I am liking the reverse nature. Once you get the turns it all starts to fall into place...
