I’m not very familiar with the Nurburgring (in any configuration) so, I spent Mon-Thursday practicing and qualifying. My QT sucked and it was ranked in the top 25,000… yes, thats not a typo. On the positive side, I had countless places that I felt I could improve on.

Today, Friday, I figured what-the-heck, I’ll enter one race just to see how far down the grid I place. There was as much as a :50 second spread from top to bottom of the grid (B lobby).

The race was amazing, so much fun (that doesn’t necessarily mean that I placed well). It turns out that grid position had very little to do with final positioning, similar results on my 2nd race.

I always wash after changing the oil. You never know that bit of dirt may slow you down. More drag, don’t you know?
You never know - it could make a difference, without affecting BOP too perhaps. We clean helicopter rotor blades every 50 hours for top efficiency. I guess using a rental car all the time would always ensure the best car for lap times, if there was a performance difference.

P.S wish there was no such thing as rental cars in a daily race. At least if it was a one make race ( a.k.a Gr2/Gr4) then there might be a few different liveries on display.
 
If you have a faster lap time during an actual race than your qualifying time, I’m curious why that doesn’t become your new QT.
I also notice a lot of drivers start at the back of the pack with no QT listed and end up placing pretty high, is there a strategy there?

Usually very fast chaps that enjoy fighting through the pack. I'll sometimes start at the back on unfamiliar track/combos just to get a feel for how a race goes, but then I'll try and qualify to get nearer the front

The trouble is then, people would not be racing. While my old account had more money than I knew what to do with and every car you could get (thanks scripted grinds) currently I’m am growing the VR account “organically”. No grinding so far but that does mean I’m now slow to get the expensive cars.

Consequently, if I didn’t use the rental, I’d be out of luck.

Now if I like the car though, I’ll find a way to buy it…

And generally if you have a faster time in the race than QT, you would go much faster in a quiet QT, so keep pushing

Maybe a quota of cars per week would mix it up, use a car 3 or 4 times then have to use another. Or if a winner got success ballast added, like touring cars used to do (I think they're limited by hybrid boost now??) Or just make every race a one-make event with a different car every week.

Likely need GT8 before there's any changes to anything though.
 
I’m having a few race B only to get me back to BS, my mindset is I’m not going to win, I lift at the 100 board and fly around the bus stop.

But!!!

Every time I’m in a winning position I crash at the bus stop - seriously, I feel like something else is at work here

The only time ever I wanted Monday to come quickly 🤣

Finally ordered and installed an O clamp rather than the awful cheap D clamp it comes

Story of my life. I’m much happier when I’m in second chasing the leader. Often I don’t actually want to be in the lead.

I actually found that serious DR progress can be made by not trying to be the winner but playing it safe and aiming for top 5 each time.

Of course that depends on if you want to win vs gain DR. :confused:

This is the thing. You want to win the lower DR races quickly but once you are playing with loads of DR on the table and the times/consistency are like your own then just finishing/placing is the best strat. The amount of times as a low A or high B driver being p9 but the high DR guys crashed etc and I gained a huge amount.

But the thing we all have to personally measure is do we want DR and admit to ourselves we will never be the fastest guy on the grid constantly or do you want to win races.

Both are valid and can be true at the same time.

Big thing here is the draft. Qualifying sessions you're all by yourself with no chance of shaving tenths off laps by catching someone's slipstream.

That said, and as mentioned, if you're eclipsing your qualifier in the race, you might be able to hit that (or better) during a QT session. When qualifying, the tires are permanently at optimal grip levels and the tank be empty.👍

Holy crap, they give that much money for a win!!?? But I can't say that I'd be brave enough to even win a race at the Ring. Well it's time for me to get back to work, I've got limited time this week. I gotta help my mom get to her appointment Friday, so my racing time in Sport mode is gonna have to be curbed. I really hope there are no more tuned races for a while. That Jimny race at Alsace was a nightmare and challenge to do. It's actually PD's decision what tracks and cars are featured for each week. It'd be nice if we could use a magic wand to choose, but that's not possible in this world.

And believe me, I gave up trying to win this one a while ago, shame to let my QT go to waste so indeed a DR gainer was the idea

Until of course, the gaining of penalties, has its say. of which I got a 5 sec just for passing a pile up!

So I spat my dummy out and just turned the thing off - strange week all in all, will be glad to see the back of it 😁

Techically one could go faster in a race due to drafting. Not like thats too often possible to find a good "wingman" in these races. If your FL is faster than QT its propably downt to your concentration during qualifying. Ir over pushing. Just keep your head at the next turn or two the whole eight minutes and QT should improve. Starting from the back is propably not just fun but also a viable strategy to survive in to the top10 and within a striking distance at the end of lap1. That much intentional and unintentional dirt is going on during the first few km. Thats also why people struggle to finish in top 5 - they fight and bumb over 13th place over and over again not realizing they should let others do the fighting. ( my curret stat 95 races with 48 top5 and only few podiums) In these longer races the fight that matters is during the last few km. Until that one should just go as fast and as clean and possible. Every second lost fighting matters at the end of the race.

Just this week I grinded my second account to AS. Before this I havent played much and certainly really not raced competitively since GT Sport. What a poo show.. even though I maintained SR S or A the whole time. Around mid DR B there is a lot of dirty racing, but i think the worst is right at the edge of DR B/A. Most of the grid is already relatively fast drivers, but 2/3 is either deliberately dirty or more likely lack any kind of racecraft or finess. Trying totally unnecessary overtakes in weirdest places and ruining their own and others races by crashing, getting penalty or at the very least getting their tires dirty or broken car - and then god knows what happens in the following few turns as they dont realize the lack of grip they have. And they do thin back and firth through the field again and again. Usually ending up to bottom 5 or DNF. If one cant drive a straight line next to another car one propably shouldnt try overtaking in the slopes of the green hell. When I finally managed to blow through BS (pun intented) to AS/AA the racing gets a lot cleaner - yes there are still few bumbs, but mostly accidental or something unexpected happens. DR A kind of returned my faith to simhumankind.

Ok, I'm ready to roll today. I've got less than 24 hours to grind many daily races at NurbSprint and W.G. I chose my own Group 1 car to race, the Porsche 919 Hybrid. I like how it gets through the turns quickly so I'll keep using it until the races switch over. It's weird to me too, my actual lap times when I'm racing are different than the actual qualifying times. I still think times are clocked depending on the type of equipment the player uses. I'm at my normal level on the controller. It doesn't matter how much time I spend watching the top driver's replays, I can never duplicate or copy their driving lines and braking points, so I gave up on that. I have been using ghosts atm to help me improve my times so I can get near the front of the pack more.

Because if you ignore the TT format of GT qualifying it's essentially you aren't either doing enough TT or not understanding how to improve you vs the track.

It's not easy if you have really tried in QT to hit those times in race typically, traffic, latency, pressure. If you are bettering your QT times in race you are leaving a lot of QT time on the table and you'd start further up the grid if you did a bit more of it. Track knowledge and general comfort ability plays in to it as well.

Hi Chris, thanks for adding me, btw.
I suggest to use your own ghost to improve. Slowly by slowly you'll get used to find lap time. Also, try to divide in sectors, I mean, mark one generic lap, leave the gost in front by 5/6 tenth the next lap and start catching up. There'll be the moment when the ghost is bothering you, so that's the time to exit (resetting the ghost) and start again. It takes time, but (in the end) you'll find speed and consistency altogether.

@Chris30 they do not have separate timing structures for controller -vs- wheel drivers. While the game/big brother is aware of what peripheral you're using, there is no delineation based on that factor. TBH, they don't care what you use to pilot your 1's and 0's around the tarmac...until you get to the worlds. Then it's wheel only. It's an image thing at that stage. 👍

@Gurzu that's actually a good idea. Chances are, if you're improving you WILL catch yourself -vs- trying to hunt down someone that has 2 seconds on you. You may get there eventually but I'd bet the ride is WAY more frustrating. When you're chasing yourself, you can watch what you're doing wrong in real time. If you can't tell, I don't do ghosts. I'll watch someone else's lap to see what/where I've got it wrong and go from there. Too distracting for me and I'm not trying to topple the entire leaderboard. I'm the casual racer type.😁

@Haitauer I equate entering a daily GT7 race to attending a large concert event (The Cure was my last). I am 100% confident I will like SOME people there. I'm also 100% confident some attendees are gigantic a-holes. Keep an eye out for both and react accordingly. Longer races you can work with the good ones to make progress. A-holes, not so much.🤣

Hi guys, this week was another rollercoaster for my DR at Nurb24. This morning I started racing from the brink of DR D (0.05 DR C finishing one race outside the first 9 and it was D). Surviving from pole or 2nd at first corner (I learned to avoid divebomers) was tricky, but I managed to do it from second race onwards. Summing up, it was 5 wins (some by high margin like 20 sec to the 2nd , 6 clean bonus) and 2 3rd (1st race end up as real carnage but I couldn't retire). Thanks to my stubborness and some very good tip from GBRC-Lunchbox (didn't know the "radar" at all, now I'll use it always), I'm back to DR B, DS S. My QT is enough for starting between 2nd and 4th in DR B, but for this week I'm done. Next time I'll shave those 10-15 sec still to erode from my 8:20ish before start any race, just to be sure, cause still in DR B there's to many "nasty drivers" also in DS A or S (euphemistically speaking).
 
I don't either. It's a mystery. I can barely get a lap under 9 minutes at the Ring. Maybe they called Superman to help give them a push!

Not done the circuit experience? For both the ring and the GP circuit?

Practice is the key. You can't expect to be fast without effort and it takes learning and effort.

Come on Chris, you go as fast as you learn and you only learn with practice. Take a bit of responsibility here dude and learn. It's actually simple to take any corner when you can read the road, just knowing the track.
 
Thank you Glen, I'm sorry. Maybe it's part of my autism why I obsess over being a perfect driver. I'll just relax and do this on my own and update y'all on my progress. Take care.
