Looks like you had a productive day yesterday, well done on those podium finishes ZEE. Keep up the progress and results.
Thank you Chris appreciate it, keep on racing and aim high matey!!!

Not a ton of actual racing in Race A this week but felt it was a jolly good car to hustle about with TC2 engaged. How some of you do it with no TV is utterly beyond me. I do feel I have bene making progress getting used to a wheel too, by last night I felt I was hustling not tip-toeing in races.

I may have been the wrong end of the result but how close was that for a finish 00.002 !!!!
I saved the reply for public view, first time in 2 weeks using VR so my first laps were sketchy to say the least 🤣🤣🤣
Unfortunately that again put me back into B lobbies and the ****e started immediately. They are disgraceful 😔. Anyway I'm on my other account at the moment and this isn't going too badly so far. If anyone gets a friend request from Father_Dougal80 then don't worry, it's me 🤣🤣

Brought my NSX Gr.4's (default) Race C QT down to a 1:28.925.

Race 1: Started P1. A G70 helped me celebrate my 16th Pole Position by pushing me into a spin at Surtees on Lap 2. They waited, but the damage was done. Took new tires at the end of Lap 6. Finished P8. 😤

Race 2: Started P3. Pace wasn't great. Had a brown pants dorifto moment at Paddock Hill on Lap 5. Took new tires at the end of Lap 6 again. Finished P5.

Race 3: Started P1. Lost the early lead to an Alfa 155, but had fun trying to keep pace. Took new tires at the end of Lap 7. Had a very costly solo off at at Wesfield on Lap 8. Finished P6. 😤

Race 4: Started P5. Pace was decent. Took new tires at the end of Lap 7 again. A bobble at Surtees on Lap 10 lost me a potential podium. Finished P4.

Called it a day at race #400, licking the wounds of two very rare Pole Positions that went to waste. Ah well... let's review some statistics:

Clean Races: 133 (33.25%)
Fastest Laps: 13 (3.25%)
Pole Positions: 16 (4%)
Victories: 14 (3.5%)
Top 5 Finishes: 122 (30.5%)

@Chris30 yeah, had to really step back a while. Learning wheel and getting stuck in a rabbit hole of leagues where I proceeded to wreck out of 90% of my races, even while cruising and fuel saving. Needed a break. And real life turned qup to 11.

But having more fun now. Back doing more dailies and just fun stuff. Don't see many here online since I haven't booted up my US account in a year, but need to look at that.

As for someone talking about streamers, they get what happens. Run your race and if things are good or bad that's just the roll of the dice. Also assume over half the time they're not actually streaming or have less viewers than when my family sat on the couch behind me for a league race with my kids heckling me. (New style of streaming content for anyone looking to be different). We all know how well someone with a temper would handle that and I can think of at least 2 streamers I'd love to watch meltdown in that situation.

I agree, taking a break for like a week or two is understandable. Especially when you get stressed during intense races with baddies from the A club. That's a good analogy, it's like a roll of the dice. You never know what kind of lobby you'll get. Whether it's with a decent, friendly group or a bunch of egomanias that like to win and do any dirty things/tricks to do so. That's my way of putting it in this scenario.

Well, I hope you're doing well. All I've been doing is running laps in the qualifying mode, I've been steering clear from the racing for a while. I need to rest and get my mind back in the positive range instead of being negative and complaining that I can't be as quick as everyone else.

Looks like the 4C has taken over the leaderboards in race C. Someone found a tune? I don't know about race vs. quali. Anyway I can start in the middle and gain some places in the Trophy, almost up to C rating, (again) haha.

Guys, I need your help pls. I'm new to racing online, just got PS+ two days ago. Did my first daily race yesterday evening and it was pretty much what I was expecting it to be.
But now I just did my second race and I'm confused.
Daily Race A, I was in pole. At the left turn after the tunnel I was on the inside and P2 passed me, riding the rails on the outside. While he did this I saw that his car was getting transparent.
At the corners leading to the start/stop straight he was braking early. Too early for me. I hit the brakes with full force, expecting to crash into him but his car went transparent again and I drove right through.... I was so confused that I quit the race. What's going on here?

Because you have lower DR the ghosting settings are on max to stop contact.

Typically in the lower DR levels drivers are less consistent and less aware so this is the games way of stopping constant accidents.

As you move up the DR levels ghosting is minimal as typically people have better car control and consistent pace.

Thx for the reply! But I'm still confused. Does that mean I just drive like it's a hot lap and don't care about the other cars at all?

No on the contrary, to move up in DR and more importantly SR drive like there is no ghosting and focus on being clean.

Don't rely on the ghosting....I know this from experience...

Yeah, but I thought that Race A doesn't effect rating. So if I care about cars there and the others don't, it's not really a fair race, is it?

That's not the way to look at it, you can only race your way and not worry about how others are racing just be aware of them.

SR updates are typically on in daily race A and the better your SR generally the more cleaner your opponents will be. That is why it is important to race like there is no ghosting

1. Your SR will improve and get better safety rating lobbies and "generally" better racing etiquette

2. Its practice for when you eventually do races that impact your DR you know how to race, leave space and consistently avoid contact with other racers.

Having just started with dailies and being placed in lobbies where there are people like you who are just starting and don't have a lot of experience don't let them or this period create bad habits or incorrect expectations on how to race and what good racing looks like

Well, thanks again for your answers!

I'm afraid this is not what I'm looking for. I just don't get it, racing is a rather simple sport, why is it so hard for PD to do this in a proper way? If you hit another car, you hit another car. It's so easy.
I don't really play any other sport games but I wonder if it's just like this nowadays. Maybe in FIFA you can also shoot the ball through the goalkeeper if you're lower rank?

Please don't get me wrong, that's no criticism towards you or anybody here. Just my honest thoughts. And yeah, I'm a bit grumpy atm. I'M JUST TOO OLD FOR 💩 LIKE THIS😄😉

For game play reasons.

Other games don't have ghosting but the learning curve and frustration are massive.

Whilst it is less realistic, on balance would you like to have an hour or so to do some racing rock up, get taken out in the first corner and then just be lapping at the back on your own and not racing all because of someone's else's accident or poor driving.

Then imagine that happens 5 races in a row....would you want to keep playing anymore?

You are in lower level lobbies that can be absolute chaos, when you do ranked races and move up there is less ghosting (there are a couple of exceptions to this) and the racing is more competitive, less people miss braking zones etc

We all share a little of your frustration but you have to take a holistic view and just appreciate that there is some liberties taken with realism to make the game more enjoyable and to keep people racing rather than quitting because there race was ruined on the first lap etc.

Edit:

Fun fact I was a community gameplay representative for FIFA 10-13.

FIFA is a bad example as it's easier to 1-2-1 match you with someone of the same ability and the AI can be dialled up and down dynamically to create tense ranked and unranked matches online.

Me at EA Sports Vancouver doing an awful rainbow kick

I see your point but I also see solutions for all of this. Just provide two modes for online, unranked/ranked or arcade/sim or whatever you wanna call it. And for the serious one just deal out severe penalties for unsafe driving.

But ofc that's just hypothetical. I'm aware GT7 isn't a sim and doesn't want to be a sim. I guess there are rather few players looking for serious racing here, by far not enough to justify doing things like I suggested.

Just did my first Race B after getting some motivation from watching replays of some cool races! Quite happy considering it could have been a disaster after Lap 1 😂 😅

Started in P11 after improving to a 1:59:6 and was put off a bit after a rude re-join halfway through the first lap from a dude in front! Focusing more on his potential danger from having dirty tires, I soon made my own mistake into T1 of Lap 2 and was lucky to keep the car pointing the right way after skidding through the grass!

With dirty tires (which I was surprised last almost a full lap) I fell down to P13 but with some luck, keeping calm and taking advantage of fighting in front of me (not to mention a clean driver who I overtook and defended from on the last lap) I managed to claim back 4 positions to finish in P9 and quite happy with the outcome! Though I am a bit annoyed for losing my clean race bonus as only real contact was getting softly punted from behind after the mistake I made at the start of Lap 2 😊

We've all talked about at length before.

The problem is the player base spread is so wide and quite candidly the skills gaps are massive even between the top and bottom of DR levels.

There are lots of players looking for serious racing in GT but these players naturally progress through time and improving their pace beyond casual pick up play players.

I have a rig, dd wheel, loadcell and VR you can't get much more immersion and realism than that.

But the reality is that most players are playing from their sofa with a controller in an unrealistic driving camera/view which in an of itself breaks any realism.

You should try ACC as it's free I believe still on PS+ the game is focused much more on the experience you are describing. Or iRacing on PC which is at the extreme end of realism.

It's a bit hard to describe for me what I really want. (English isn't my first language). I'm not looking for absolute realism in terms of physics/gear and so on. I'm on controller myself. I just want racing to adhere to basic rules of motorsports and the basic laws of physics.
An example: While racing in single player can be fun, the more I played the more I got annoyed by always starting last, catch the rabbit and rubberbanding. That defies the basic rules of racing 'cause there's no racing series in real life where one guy always starts from the back.

So I thought "let's go online" 'cause there's qualifying. And yeah, there is, but now there's also this ghosting thing which defies the basic laws of physics.

So in short: I'm not looking for a hardcore sim, I don't need a high end rig, I don't wanna spend hours on setting up the car, I don't wanna drive against Max Verstappen (at least not on a regular basis😄) I just want a simple race game. Just qualify and race. And if you crash, you crash.

But as I said, won't happen for GT7.

And no, I don't wanna jump on ACC. I like GT7 overall, even if I complain pretty often. I will get ACE when it's out for consoles though, but that's still a long time from now.

But now I'm curious: How does ACC handle this? I'm sure there are also players who are not that skilled or don't care about racing etiquette.

Might I ask, what is your DR rating? I ask because you said that you are tired of always starting last - maybe you can intentionally lower the DR by quitting a few races and then being put in lesser-fast lobbies without affecting your SR so the drivers won't be any more/ less dirty than your current predicament..

Personally, I am very much against my own advice because even if you are constantly starting at the back end, it teaches you more than being at the front because you are constantly learning about space-awareness of cars next to you and also getting experience on how others drive and you should/ need to do to react and come out ahead!

The rubberbanding issue is more against the AI rather in Daily Races, unless you count the slipstream but as you mentioned, you are looking for some realism and slipstream is very real! Not sure what you are after mate as quoting you: "I just want a simple race game. Just qualify and race. And if you crash, you crash." it is exactly what the daily races are! Good luck, though!

What you want is here, you just seem to have made your mind up very quickly after 1,2 races at the very bottom where ghosting is intentionally excessive. Sounds like you’ve given a final feedback on Sport mode yet you haven’t really fully experienced it. Like reviewing and rating a film having only watched the first half.

I have no idea what my DR is. I just finished a single race so far😄
And what I said about always starting last was about the single player mode - where you just always start dead last.

No, sorry that's a wrong impression. I will keep on playing ofc, I was just really confused today 'cause the idea of ghosting didn't even cross my mind. What came to my mind first when I saw it was that the guy maybe lost connection. But I would never have thought that the game does this intentionally.
