Eventually it is a compromise that need to be done. @NAXEHT has a good point on competitiveness, wich lead to kinda mono-marque races. I believe that this happens mostly when DR is near to change (in higher or lower rate makes no difference) inducing an atavic instinct of survival to take the upper hand, forcing the choice for the "better weapon". In midrange DR, especially when there's less risk to be demoted,
I agree with you both but there is another thing to consider.

The faster and more CONSISTENTLY you can repeat that you get in to this place where there is more downsides in not being in cars equal to the people who are as quick and consistent as you. Then it becomes decision making, mistakes etc rather than car.

3 more races at Road Atlanta this evening. I came close to setting a new time, but no dice this time.

My first race has me in P5. I take a weird bounce in the first chicane thingy and get stuck in the grass on lap 4 and I finish P12. Race 2 has me in P12 to start and this race was pure bumper cars. I couldn't escape the mayhem and finish P12 again. The last race was clean where I start P7 and finish P4.

I might do more races tomorrow as I have the day off. I think this combo is great and I'm having some fun.

Went back to do some dailies after a few months. Accidentally joined another league but in ACC so had a lot of emergency learning of tracks and have missed the GT dailies.
Not sure why I missed them now though.
About 5 or 6 daily B. All but 1 being disasters.

First one I Accidentally bump a guy a few times but no big issue until someone just runs me off passing me into turn 1. Next race, solid racing until lap 5 when the car simply doesn't stop or turn into turn 1? A couple of more races and people diving into turn 1, turning into you if you're alongside and just shoving the car into any perceived possible gap. At least twice I just lapped slowly to finish and avoid bothering seeing anyone else after being fed up.

Last race we had 2 people run themselves off but the race went fine, couple of good small battles. I Need to do more as I just am not used to the raw cold-bloodes aggression and shoving anymore. Would be nice if the penalty system punished ramming someome off but it is what it is. Hopefully I can figure it out as I just had zero idea where to get the speed out of the car for the whole lap.

Have had some great days at Atlanta at the very top of DR B. I have made sure to have my S rating maxed out, and it really helps the quality of the racing a LOT.
I am learning more and more racecraft: How to keep glued to somebody, yet still brake in a safe way. When to defend, and when NOT to defend. Also I have been bumpdrafting people a lot, and it just works so well. (Yet many people seem to only be doing 100% offensive driving all the time.)
But most importantly I have kept my mind on this: As long as I have good racing, all is fine. I have had fabulous racing among P12, P13 and P14 after taking a hit. It is all good as long as there is racing and opportunity for learning. Much more fun, than when I was hellbent on "moving up the ladder".

Ok, pretty sure Kaz knew the hatchet was droppin' on the GTR and patched in a swan song, it was NOT this much fun before. I always avoided the thing because I didn't like the way it drove. Things have changed in the months since it last left the garage, lol.

Hit the proverbial wall with the Cayman so started pushin' some other stuff around the track. Seems I can drive almost everything at the same disappointing rate. Revisited the Lambo and was having fun in that while taking a couple tenths off. Then I caved and grabbed the GTR. It just seems to be in a different league. Nothing else I threw at it could equal what that thing was puttin' down.

Not a fan of driving what everyone else is but numbers are numbers. Bonus being that it's fun to drive. Not at all like slogging it out in a FF is for me, anyway. I'll probably give the Cayman some race time just to see how it holds up in something other than QT.

Have fun and happy Friday!

Road Atlanta is good fun, track limits are brutal though
Overall I think they're not that bad, apart from turn 5, the left hander at the end of The Esses: the exit is absolutely awesome, it would be so much fun without limits; nothing brutal about them here, just dull, boring and hopelessly lame.

My experiences on Road Atlanta this week are wildly varying in terms of results. Finished with a victory as well as with a P16, and everything in between. This because of the close contact and many doorbanging / punts. Too bad most people just drive on when they shove you off while overtaking at a nearly impossible part of the circuit, or diveboming from 0.5 / 0.6 seconds behind at the chicane. All in all still a good feeling because of the close, exciting racing in between. I can drive fairly consistent with this track / group 4 combo. Almost always catching the people in front if I have some clean air in front of me.

Are you noticing this varies a lot from car to car? Only ask because the Cayman is feeling almost telepathic right now. I took the Lambo out for a run, didn't like it...felt 'spongey', for lack of a better term. Still turns, just feels like you're in a comfy armchair while doing it. Jumped in the Megane and the 'instant' response returned. Wasn't sure it it was an AWD -vs- non-AWD thing.

Also, taking your new found left stick abuse into account, is 'flash to pass' still mapped to L3??🤣🤣

ya, it probably is 🤣

And yes, it does vary from car to car. Some cars are better than others, but that doesn't help much since the better cars are often not the meta cars.

Like, getting through the 2-3-4-5 section at Deep Forest is where I lose all my time because going from full left to full right is SOOOOOO slow. I'm constantly on the verge of being rear ended in that section, even though my overall pace is pretty good. I have more control through that section with the Ferrari, but as we all know, the RCZ is the way to go this week.

I have been close to getting the fastest lap, so I know that over a single lap, it can be done. I simply can't get my Q time into the 1:26's, and that puts me way down the starting grid. The further down the grid you start, the more bunched up you get. That forces earlier stops, which compromises my end of race pace.

I wish they would simply fix the sensitivity :banghead: I don't mind losing to better players (usually) but I hate fighting the controller.

Glad your enjoying RA bro, I’ve been away most of the week so I’m playing catch up, that 1.24 anything still eludes me and after a few races yesterday my DR tumbled a little as side swipers were out in force, settled down in DR C lobbies and the racing has settled down, some podiums coming my way whilst I do a DR repair job

Hope everyone is enjoying the Easter weekend so far wherever you are 👊

This race gives you an idea of what is happening at Road Atlanta. I am slow lap 1 as I am caught out by starting right at top of the Rev range. I am pushed off at the esses, dirty tyres means I am now missing apexes and mobbed and given a penalty.

Then we settle down and race two cars, black and aqua. Black is sneaky dirty as you can see when he races aqua. Aqua trying to be clean but pinches me twice when I had made the apex on the inside and was alongside.

Haha, that first go around the esses is exactly why this track needs to be something slower like civic or mini, it’s extremely hard to race fair in this width of track unless everyone gets it exactly right AND wants to race clean 😁

Had a mixed week this week, alternating between Race B and Race C. I've run with the RCZ in C, as it's long been my favourite Gr3 car.

Having said that, despite it's stability, I've struggled to get the speed out of it, way off the pace on QT.

I've made up places during the first half of the race on hard tyres, then lost them all on the mediums! Wished I'd picked the 911 yesterday and today, every race I entered was won by a 911....

Race B has gone much better, despite my inability to get the pace out of the GTR - 0.5 seconds slower than I've managed in the G70. Having said that, my race performances have been helped by my poor Race C results dropping me to DR C, which has put me close to the front of the Road Atlanta races, and kept me out of all the trouble that others have experienced.

I’ve raced less this week even though I’m fairly ok at both tracks. In all honesty after throwing away 6/7 poles on B and being battered and bruised in a few more, I spent a lot of time practicing Manu and TTs rather than racing.

The one thing that did really stand out was how close B is at all levels but also that everyone is now getting to a strong consistency level so it well behaved lobbies/packs its very much single file.

Looking at the nations races coming up I have very little hope for dailies improving any time soon :(

Pre-update we'd likely still have cars going off through T1 at Atlanta, but it's much easier to keep control now - even the grass seems to have good grip!! I've not had any poles so far, but just took a tenth off my time so might have a chance of starting at/near the front.

A week of double shifts hasn't been good for race time 😕

Just ran some races at Road Atlanta and wanted to mention this...because I missed the 1-2 shift at the start, lol. If you bring up the chat/start menu and let it sit there until the bell rings, it will grab the next gear for you with zero penalty. As soon as it hits 2nd, hit <Continue> and race-on.

Takes the nervousness out of it and you hit the shift every time. Added benefit for controller drivers being the instant full throttle.👍

And possibly one or two alternative/quirky cars that could work as well.

I’ve been vocal about one make but that’s at club level cars (polo, clio, radical etc) but an entire Gr reduced to one viable car per track is not fun.

Yeah it's really not worth trying any other types at the moment. If they can't fix the BOP, just make it a single different car each week. I reckon 80% of my GR4 garage has zero miles on them 🤣

I need to re-learn Gr3 on Race C - only done a few laps and I'm braking far too early compared to the ghosts and also not accelerating quickly enough either 🙄

Had a good couple of decent Daily C races today with the Genesis GR.3 coupe chasing RCZ's. Trying to hold onto my B rating for driving and keep some solid clean racing in. Lots of bump apssing nad bad drving in the B lobbies but overall good racing.

Just did a few Daily B thinking a GTWS night would have a lot of people racing clean.
WRONG.
There were good starts to all the races, but eventually I would catch up to a dirty driver or the dirty driver that had served a penalty would catch up to me and it would be over. A shove off track, rammed off, brake checked for damage. And usually carnage with others. So promising starts and some small clean battles done for by nasty small-minded people.

And a shout out to one of the better ones of them, the Malaysian driver with team titles in his name who ran me completely off track defending when I caught him out and got alongside at exit in the final chicane. For p14. Real classy.
Wish I could name the drivers that were nice to race but it's harder to remember them after the next car in line takes me out.

Video is forever...perfectly fine to share a video of the offenses, just can't SAY who did what. Most vids make that all perfectly clear without specifics anyway.😁

Sorry it sucks in your lobbies. Maybe a time of day thing where you caught everyone being drunk, belligerent or both? Had a bunch of races yesterday and got lucky with some clean A/A+ lobbies, but that was mid-afternoon into early eve. I got out before the bars let out, I suppose.🤣

Fairly good racing today tbf, managed to repair my DR back to BS after some good battles,

And managed to drag myself into the 1.24s only just mind you.

Got to love a back holiday Monday with GT7 eh? An extra days racing 😁

Forget what I said yesterday about struggling with the RCZ in Race C - managed my annual win today, after starting P4 (albeit at DR C), big margin to second too!

Put me back to DR B, so I had another try at Race B - completely messed up my stats now, and I'll probably have a winless year next year as a result of this -

Haven't seen another G70 all week, but seems to be OK in race mode.

I FINALLY broke into the 1:26's

I wanted to share, one, because I feel I accomplished something, and two, because you can see how slow the little red steering dot moves.

I'm having to use a lot of positive brake balance on everything. I use +5 with the RCZ and I used +3 with the Lambo and on this run with the Ferrari. With the steering being so slow, I simply cannot get the cars to rotate without that rear brake bias.

Just tried it out for a change (always been a favourite at RA). It’s very fast around T1/up the hill, had to lift to avoid shunting GTRs in front!

I had a few positives, my pace, consistency and a bit more aggression were back. Just struggled to escape the couple of muppets each lobby. I just need more time back in the battles more to get comfortable again and manage some good races. I know they're out there.

I've had fun this week!

The Peugeot is the dominant car since PD broke the BoP but with the strong slipstream and tyre wear you can have some fun going against it. Some races have had as many as 15 RCZ's on the grid but I've also seen good players in the Huracan and AMG being able to hold their own too.

And whoever designed that final hairpin should be fired, the amount of carnage that has caused every race is ridiculous.
