GT7 has failed to be Gran Turismo

Fewer fps,
On a base PS4 yes, on a Pro no.
worse graphics,
A different balance, more cars on track and dynamic weather and ToD on all tracks/layouts
more bugs & wonky physics apparently.
Apparently? Nope, it's physics and tyre model still (apart from a few cars) hold up well, PC2 improved that further and the same engine further developed is now in AMS2 and blows GT7 out of the water on every count in regard to physics.
Pcars 1 was a dumpster fire on consoles, not even a fair comparison really.
Unpolished =/= dumpster fire
Graphics matters.....especially to casuals WHO ARE THE TARGET AUDIENCE OF GRAN TURISMO. If they didn't, Project Cars 1 and 2 on console would have blown Gran Turismo out of the water. Sales matters for the longevity of a franchise.... case and point, Project cars.

Next Caller
PC1 and PC2's biggest barriers to sales were arguably a combination of lack of brand recognition and poor controller implementation rather than visuals alone.

I agree with you on this, yes. After all, GOOD controller implementation is one of the biggest reasons Gran Turismo thrives. Poor brand recognition, definitely. But I think it was still too niche for the console crowd. Not to mention, ACC did proper SIM better, while looking better on console.

Admittedly, I was late to the party with Project Cars and ACC. I stuck with ACC and gave up on project cars. Granted, ACC didn’t look great on console, but it was still better than PC2… and I could never get into it. More or less the same for ACC. As much as I liked that game on PS4, it just didn’t look as good as GTS, therefore it regularly went on the back burner.

Pretty much the same story now, even with the PS5 ACC port which admittedly, looks really good. But despite GT7’s current state, I still find myself playing Gran Turismo more because it’s a lot less clunky, much more polished, and better looking.

I’ll be curious to see how Gran Turismo matures, or doesn’t… now that they have a console that’s capable of facilitating good graphics AND decent enough physics. Especially once PSVR2 comes out.

Plus with the rumored PC port down the road, PD might finally be able to capture both the SIM and the casuals crowd

All speculation of course

Not really a factor as ACC came out on console 3 years after PC2 did.

Looks-wise, I understand the draw, but for me, it's a secondary after the physics side of things. RaceRoom and RFactor 2 both look bloody awful in comparison to GTS or GT7, yet I'd fire either up in preference myself.

Completely understandable. Inevitably, I think I’ll end up voyaging into the PC realm sooner or later; wether GT7 gets better or not. And I do think GT7 will get better in the coming months. But I want the best of both worlds. ACC-level physics with GT7 graphics. Assetto Corsa 2 will probably be the title that will by last nudge I need to spend the $$$ on a PC. The only thing I love about Gran Turismo is their focus on road cars

Why wait for in coming months for content that should have already been in the game for us to enjoy, instead we get slowly drip fed with content. PD should have stuck with what previous numbered game were like, having in game career mode content completed and better online events.
GT7 online if the same as GT Sport was and if GT7 was a true numbered game, there should have been online events like GT6 had 3 seasonal races, 2 drifts and 2 time trial events.

People are not that very bright at all if they say things like GT7 is only going to get better in many months, because they don't know much about how a GT numbered game should be structured. GT7 is a very disappointing game because the bright people have given up on this game, and have moved on because they can see the game is heading in the wrong direction.

After over 20 years of being a loyal fan to the Gran Turismo numbered series, PD bring out a game in 2022 called GT7 and it's the worst and most ridiculous game of all time. PD has really ruined the Gran Turismo series with GT7, thanks to the clowns at the company. I am glad I am finish with this stupid company called PD, because they have certainly lost their way on how the designed this game called GT7.

While I agree with you, it’s obvious that PD has chosen to drip feed us content, because the metrics (as far as long term revenue stream I’m assuming), suggests they do it that way. Frustrating, yes. Reality of today’s gaming market? Also, yes.

But I guarantee you’re still going to play this game, despite your frustrations. Especially when new updates drop.

PD and Sony also know this too.

Not all today's market, thankfully. EA already said how "single player games are dead" years ago, yet we've got complete and amazing games after that did sold beyond well. GoW, Spiderman, TLOU2, HZD and more. Or more recent Elden Ring, which might have an expansion eventually, but a complete game since the release date, with zero MTX and drip fed content.

So it's only reality if a developer and/or publisher decides it is.

And you can't guarantee anything for anyone, aside of maybe yourself. Not everyone on these forums are die-hard GT fans. I was, until GT5, which was awful enough so I stopped playing it after half a year, and did skip both GT6 and GTS. To be fair, GT6 was just too late and released after PS4 was out already, and GTS' focus being on the sports mode were among deciding factors why I never bought those, too. But still, PD didn't get even 10-15$ from me for GTS.

GT7 for me right now in the similar situation as GT5. I'm "done" with the game, have all, but 3 cars that will show up in LCD soon. I don't even bother with daily marathon anymore, PD can keep their scam tickets for themselves.

I will check new update, sure, but if it's anything like the May's one, then it's "whole" 3-4 hours of gameplay in a month. Which is laughable amount for a game that is supposed to be the GaaS type. 2-3 more of such updates and I'll just clean out space on SSD for something I actually play. That's what I did with GT5 back then. Will I buy GT8? Maybe, maybe not, but most likely not if PD won't fix the GT7 to the point it's actually somewhat close to what they have promised.

And to be clear, I've got 70$ worth from it time wise as it took me quite longer to get to this point than some single player games I bought for the same price and which were like ~10 hours long. Nor do I really care about how much it was, it was more of not being happy with the direction series is taking and voting with my wallet.

Ive taken the long view too (I don't like it) I can see that they listen though, and have had to address functionality before content. This months update will be telling, as they should be shifting focus towards content rather than fixes. The way to pressure them in the GAS era is to stop playing, engagement is key to monetization so kick them in the greed. I read a lot of comments of folks logging in for ticket bonus shenanigans, you need to realise if you do this you validate that shadiness. Thing is if the next updates are paltry, it just becomes a matter of never buying this game at release. There are a lot of unknowns right now, the best things come to those who wait (I hope), but we have what they want £$ so the onus is on them to deliver.

I am just asking myself is it that hard for PD to make up some more events with more Races...
They could ad more GR1, GR2 races doesnt have to be always a 1hr race.
For example 10 rounds for 300PP, 400PP, 500PP and so on.
I get bored to play mostly the same events (30min. Sarthe or Sardegna 15 rounds).
So PD please bring more events OR launch the GT League !!!

As I said in my post I am finish with this game called GT7 but I can't delete the game from my PS5 console as yet, because I have a dispute with playstation support for a long time about the digital version of the game. All I can say the game is unplayable sometimes and it effects my PS5 in a strange way , but that is not the only reason why I hate the game.

I think it's time for Sony to fund another studio for a car game. Poly won't/can't change. At this point, it's a matter of common sense, they don't want to communicate. Good! Let's move on and give this money to another Playstation studio for a car game. Maybe this game will bring Koenigsegg cars or some features like camera views options. Anyway, after 10 years of "not so good" GTs, GT7 is the proof that Poly lost its magic.

They were specifically not directly competing with GT though, for obvious reasons. @queleuleu is talking about giving another developer the GT formula to improve it.
Thought he was saying “another Playstation studio for a car game“ in general. Unless, I misread his post.

Oh my 🙈 this is embarrassing
Ha, to be be embarrassed means to have a feeling of self conscious confusion and distress which I assure I do not 😁.

To think I should feel 'embarrassed' for stating my opinion about how I feel about a game I've played for roughly a quarter century and its creator, speaks more to your own apparent close mindedness than anything else, which is kind of weird for someone naming themselves after the great Pearl Jam and everything they have stood and stand for.

But.. carry on dude... 🐵

No it wouldn't, Kaz doesn't own PD.

PD is a wholly owned Sony studio (and always has been), as such it more than possible it could continue post Kaz. Take Rare as an example, it's two founders* were hands-on with every release they put out, they left in 2007 (five years after rare became a wholly owned MS studio), Rare still very much exists as a studio.

Ditto GT as a series being able to survive if Kaz were to go, it's Sony's IP, and as such both PD and GT could well both continue to exist if Kaz left, I would argue that the vast majority of GT players don't know or care who he is, in the same way that most BMW owners couldn't tell you who founded the company or who runs it currently.

*The Stamper brothers, who in terms of infleunce in the video game industry are more than on par with Kaz's (if not more so):
"Bloomberg Businessweek described the brothers' software as having "something of a Beatles-scale fandom" in the mid-1980s,[7] and Next Generation named the brothers among the most influential people in the games industry in 1995.[35] Develop recognised the brothers as Development Legends at their 2015 Develop Industry Excellence Awards.[36] The 2015 Ultimate and Rare retrospective Rare Replay features a stamp collection game mechanic, in which the player receives stamps as awards that are used to unlock videos about the companies' past. The choice of "stamps" was in tribute to the Stamper brothers"

I honestly don't know who's next in the line to replace Kaz should he leaves. Also there's the (worrying) trend of Sony shutting down Japan-based studios too.

GT1 and GT2 had the menu shortcut feature in GT Mode of which PD for some asinine reasons removed them in GT3 (and never returned yet until GT7 now, if it's one of the reasons GT7 had been bashed for then the old games should get that too, mind you a newer PS2 game to PS1 one). Why the replayability factor should be really high and fun if those games also has horrible rally physics (era doesn't matter), shallow racing part (for something called racing game), grinding (esp. GT3), etc.?
GT6 had a different type of shortcut that allowed you to switch cars and change settings from anywhere in the menu. Also, in response to @Tornado bringing up Test Drive in his rebuttal on your views (since I didn't properly ping you last time):
The period-correct barometer at the time seem to lean with TOCA series and/or Papyrus' NASCAR titles when you take sales out of calculation (something that people also pointed out re: GT7 sales vs player engagement).

(Also since you brought up Test Drive - a glaring issue regarding car rosters can be seen as early as GT2, which did not have the C5 Corvette or the facelift 4th-gen Camaro, "unattainable" stuff aside.)

It'd be this for GT7:

Though for GT7, while there are no car change there, the car settings can be accessed at event menu unlike GT6.

And if you're talking about TOCA for that PS1 era, GT isn't certainly 100% better than TOCA.

None of which means that PD would be closed if Kaz was fired, its a (remote) possibility not a foregone conclusion.

It's pretty silly to think that Kaz is the only person who can steer the ship. Nobody knew who he was before he made Gran Turismo, nobody has to know his successor either, if he even has one.

It seems that a lot of people are in denial about how humans are always dependent on each other, and in this case, would either think that leaders (or even the face of a group/team, such as for example, F1 drivers compared to the team's crews) would singlehandedly handle anything that's under them, either giving them alone all the credits (if they're good/worthy of praise) or blaming only them for everything that's wrong in that group/team (if they screw up).

As far as I'm concerned this game is still in a beta state...

I'm seriously wishing I could refund this mess...

I haven't played it in ages, and I bought an entirely new wheel/pedal set for this cause I was hoping for something at least basically functional to play with my friends and be able to at least make a minimum amount of progress doing things I find fun instead of only grinding 1-3 races with cars I don't care about...

When the game started freezing randomly during races after one of the updates I threw my arms up finally and stopped playing...

Having your game freeze 300 yards from the finish line at the end of a 60 minute race was just the last straw...

At this point I'm just sitting around following the FIA's hint and playing ACC while I wait for what should have been GT7 ver. 1.0 to finally be released...

Hopefully the beta ends before the company folds and the franchise dies for good...

I wish I could refund too. I found myself just getting more pissed off and frustrated at the monumental amount of ridiculous design choices baked into this game. The 1.17 update with its 40 minutes of content didn't get me keen to play, it got me to delete the game and turn my PC back on. I haven't looked back.

I stopped playing GT6 pretty soon after its launch too. I don't know why I expected GT7 to be any different and I will not make the same mistake with GT8.

I have been having a blast going back through the career and challenges on Assetto Corsa PC, and having some awesome SP races with AI on ACC that are actually fun to race with. AMS2 with its rental karts are an absolute blast too.

Guys....

I think that everything would be different if they just called this game: Gran Turismo Café

Everything in the game would be 'great' for a non numbered game but what we ended up with would not be worthy of a numbered Gran Turismo. They hinted with trailers to hark back to the first 4 games and don't have ANY of the key themes for feeling of the old ones. We got Café, catch the rabbit and a cut down version of online from sport.
A bitter harsh reality to swallow that has annoyed a long time fan but I still believe that the game will become good in the end. (I didn't buy sport till 3/4 years after release!)
