GT7 & PSVR2

I’m really enjoying racing with my psvr2. Visually, it looks like I’m looking at the track and cars through a grainy potato, but it’s still great. I don’t understand what foveated rendering does because it’s essentially blurry everywhere I look, except for maybe the top of the steering wheel. Do you all think adding a 90fps option would help with any of the visual issues?

Fanbois galore :D

Its okay. Theres no need to be rational in internet comments.
No, but there is a need to not be a tosser on GTPlanet. Check out the AUP (again; it should be familiar given the number of times you've read and agreed to it), TOS, and FAQ sometime - and stop insulting people who quite rightly point out the shakiness of your sources because you don't believe you need to be rational in internet comments.

That "two million" number you quote came from a source external to Sony (always quoting "people familiar with the matter") and one that is so unreliable that Sony has, rather unprecedentedly, directly responded twice to that specific writer's numbers plucked out of thin air - on PSVR2 and on PS5 back in 2020 - to say that those (and indeed any) numbers are incorrect. And the second time was after he made up new numbers for PSVR2 in January, claiming Sony had cut production to half the previous number he made up, to which Sony responded by saying "We have not cut PSVR2 production numbers". Which was all it said.

10% of the targeted sales bro. I mean. I like Sony too, I have all Playstations and love the Vita. Also the newest Xperia mobile. But 10% is .. not much.
We are still early in the year and there are still a gazillion birthdays around the globe and Christmas ahead. And even though I don’t recall Sony publishing any PSVR2 sales figures, what they’ve published was merely a projection and they already said they have no plans on cutting PSVR2 production.

When we factor in that it’s something that was launched 38 days ago, isn’t exactly cheap, isn’t something unprecedented on consoles and take into account all the economic suspense we are in. Reaching a ¼ of your revised sales projection in less than 60 days isn’t exactly bad.

We also need to consider that a good chunk of PSVR1 users aren’t exactly thrilled with the idea of acquiring a newer version of something they know they haven’t used that much after the first week. Specially when taking into account it’s price point.

Bottom line for me is that the future of the PSVR2 will depend solely on solid games. If they can keep “GT7 experiences” coming it will sell. If they rely merely on games that you enjoy for a couple of hours before dropping it, it will inadvertently fail just like PSVR1 did in the end.

GT7 alone has the potential to push +500k PSVR2 units. And I think it will because it’s that good of an experience, it’s not a fad, it’s solid and something that once you go in there is no turning back.

Let’s see how things develop on the coming months. All I can say is that I don’t see my self playing racing games without VR ever again.

It'll take exactly one must-have game and they won't be able to keep this thing on the shelves. If GTA6 has any sort of VR mode, it'll be insane.

Speaking of shelves, it's not even available outside of Sony Direct, right? U can't go to Walmart, Bestbuy or even get it on Amazon yeet.

I've acquired mine from Amazon, but I'm Brazil so I can say for elsewhere. Here you can find it in a myriad of stores both online and physical.

A friend of mine who was in the "the cars feel/look too small" camp says that after the update the scale feels right for him for the first time.
I was able to test with Swift Sport, car I own in real life. It's a bit better but the scale still seems small to me.

I also
OK. I might be going crazy.

Does the game look "different" to you in VR after the patch?
Can´t put my finger on in, but I feel like something changed.

-I think there is less LOD pop in on opponents.
-more clarity in the cockpit.
-more blurriness outside the cockpit and especially in the distance.

I dunno.

Might all be placebo.
I see the same 3 changes! And the scale seems much better now.

I wonder if the issue is down to linear perspective, an issue in most digital images in games replicating the real world.
New Scientist had an article about it recently about how it is wrong for the human way of seeing things.

A software development company related to the research has a solution.
https://www.fovotec.com/-003, this link demonstrates it regarding car interiors.

Guys from the UK who ordered the VR Opticians lenses, how long did they take to get to you after shipping? Mine were shipped earlier in the week but the DHL tracking hasn't updated in a few days since they left Germany.

FPS will be what thrusts this into the mainstream. I told my brother who is a CoD player that the experience is totally different. If R6 or CoD or one of these games does the VR implementation well, there will be no turning back from that.

You can get it at Bestbuy and Walmart in Canada. For people playing GT7 it absolutely feels like a killer app, i cant go back to 2D even if try. All of the major racing releases on PS5 going forward need to have PSVR2 support.

CoD in VR would send people to hospitals! It’s too fast paced and frantic movement wise to work in VR.

VR is great for racing and flying simulators, anything where the user is tricked into thinking he’s inside a moving vehicle or something that is slow paced movement wise.

Walking/running in VR is far too problematic and far from being something most would withstand for hours and hours without getting exploding headaches.

Probably the equivalent of playing VR on Twisted Metal or Burnout. There will be an FPS game that does the VR implementation in a much more realistic and smoother way. And the result will be not that different to what we've experienced with GT7. That there's no going back after that.

Anybody else getting an issue with a black screen with a green wireframe appearing when driving the new Audi rs5 dtm, happens with head movements, like looking right in my case, doesn’t happen with any other car

I've seen lots of reports of this. Seems like the "allowable" head motion is too reduced on this car.

After getting my PSVR2, had to order the Fanatec DD (updating from csl), then while playing GT7 for the 1st time noticed the brake pedal for my csl was gone (so had to buy the CSL V2). After getting the pedals I started to get into the game deep so far just plugging away at the license tests, and killing with all golds so far... and after a weekend of playing decided to get a sim racing seat and frame for everything...the seat finally came. Did the update and kinda bummed i missed trying the sophy races. Here's some shameless posts of me gaming

It would definitely have to be a slower paced fps on the multiplayer side but the potential is there. Even having to deal with the crappy PSVR1 tracking, the Aim (rifle) controller was fantastic in Firewall and turned Borderlands 2 into a whole new game. GT7 has me excited for my PSVR2 order but the next thing they need to put out is another rifle controller!

If that much is still blurry you may have a bad headset or more likely haven't found the right position for that beautiful yet difficult at first to find sweet spot. Outside of the game just being lower resolution as it has to be compared to flat 4k, it plays crystal clear for me nowadays. Couldn't say that day 1 but i figd it out pretty quick.

I get that with a bunch of cars. Some have some ridiculous allowable head movement space. They should find a better solution for that because with some cars I always end up doing the corkscrew in Laguna Seca basically blind.

Way way slower paced than what CoD is. Personally I’m not too fond of VR games where I have to walk around, I usually find them pretty weird. Call of the Mountain, Resident Evil, Star Wars are all really good but it’s not something I can play for hours on end.

GT7 on the other hand is one I can’t get enough. VR is a perfect fit racing games.

I saw this post before I ever drove the new Audi but I only just got to drive it for the first time and it happened to me on numerous tight turns doing the Sardegna grind.

I had no idea what was going on because I'd never seen it before.

The 2d stuff before the race starts is pretty clear, except for the grainy filter. But, yeah, during the race things are definitely pretty blurry.
