GT7 & PSVR2

I got a ps5 and a pro and a psvr2, tried them both and there's no difference graphically. There may be a difference in hud clarity but I don't know as I don't play with it on but it's still blur city outside the cockpit on the ps5 pro.

I have kayak vr too and the difference to me is pretty tiny, nothing like the way people were banging on about it on YouTube, not to me anyway.

I don't think is guaranteed at all. That's why I'm waiting. Given that VR has gotten ZERO updates since the initial launch and PD have not talked about VR at all when they did their PR thing for the pro there's a lot of reason to be sceptical.

Really don't share your optimism, but I hope you're right.

I bought it only for GT7 PSVR2 improvements. I'm not trying to justify my decision as I know no upgrades have been made yet, but for whatever subtle results I see, I find the PSVR2 on the pro to be a better experience.

Of course, other people's mileage may vary.

I absolutely agree. Just did another 3 races. The improvements are certainly there already. Reflections on other cars also seem smoother. Just runs nicer on the Pro it seems. I would say a 10% better experience for me at least already without a Pro optimized patch.
 
Hm do we think there'll be a "proper" update to GT7 PSVR 2 on the PS5 pro? I'd literally buy it just for that tbh.
There might be slight bump to 100% resolution, even smoother fps and maybe small additions to LOD - but I expect PSSR implementation to be not only likely, but to also have the biggest impact in PSVR2 picture quality.

That said, I cant see the possibility of improvements being drastic enough to make me spend 980€ on ps5 pro + disc drive. We are in any case still stuck with the fresnel lenses after all..

1600€ (ps5 pro + psvr2) buys you a VR capable pc + Quest 3..

I feel the same.

Subtle improvements dont make the purchase worth it for me and in my case I dont need the disc drive because all my games are digital right now.
Lets see what the future brings us but I wouldnt put much expectations given the PSVR2 updates that we had in the past for GT7 (none?)
 
Am I nuts or is this hype about PSSR not really going to do much but increase the amount of ghosting you see in VR? Stuff like that is more noticeable in VR than any other medium and if you're already noticing it, a bit more crispness in overall detail is going to be meaningless when everything has massive ghosting trails. The ghosting with that technology looks bad enough on flat.

I'm talking from a PC perspective considering I don't have PSVR but the general consensus last time I checked, and my opinion, is that using DLSS etc. on PC just makes the visual fidelity in VR outright worse.
My biggest concern with PS5 Pro is that, considering the negligence for GT7 VT - it get PSSR gunked in without thought and it makes the whole experience worse than it already is. I would imagine the best thing to hope for is just support for improving what is already there with the better hardware rather than trying to skip a step with the technology the Pro brings with it.

That's an awful lot of faith in a developer that has ignored VR since it's release. Especially when their parent company (Sony) is ignoring it as well.

There are a lot of VR games that DON'T suffer from reprojection (ghosting). It'll come down to the type of game, it's demand on the system and how much effort/time a developer wants to spend on it.

I think it's needless to say that PD has put the absolute bare minimum effort into GT7's VR implementation. With the added power of the Pro, one one imagine that reprojection could be minimized or completely negated because improved framerate potential.

Sony went ahead and developed a high-end VR system for a Console.
They are the only company ever to do this 2 times in a row for consoles FFS.
They implemented Foveated Rendering and eye tracking. And put in OLED screens again.
Nobody is offering this kind of combination of tech for a very attractive price.
The catalog of VR games is also growing fast now.

They took a big risk. But thanks to that we have Full GT7 in VR now.
And it's the most stable, easy to use VR Racing experience to date, anywhere.
And it runs on a €400,- console! And very likely super impressive on a €800,- Pro console since PSSR+Foveated rendering = very promising.

PD gave us VR support from day one. GT7 was developed with VR support from the beginning.
The whole game is playable in VR. You can have some HUD choices even.
For immersion you want to put all HUD details off anyway is my opinion.

PD does not listen to everyone with their specific VR UI wishes. Glad they have focus on their own vision. It's great.
PD probably knows what the PRO can bring for 2D and VR from the start of the Pro's development.
It's highly likely that they will support the PRO in the best way possible as a first party Sony dev.

PSSR wil get it's on VR specific implementation. EVERY PSVR2 game is going to get PSSR VR support once it's ready.
The lead system architect (Cerny) litteraly already told this during the launch presentation(s) of the PRO.
The PSSR VR AI must be trained of course. And that is with the combination of the Foveated Rendering Tech.
It's this dedication and propriatary HW/SW ecosystem that puts SONY/PD literally in its own league.
The upside of this tech stack and PSVR2/PS5PRO hardware is unique and very promising.

Totally agree w your analysis. But the “perceived” lack of sony support has been widely sited, both in the media and by influencers in forums so perpetuates this view that Sony is bailing on it

I despise AI for quality (why do even TVs need AI to make moving pictures smoother, and then it doesnt even work 100%, not even 90% ...), yet as long as the Pro has more power to offer to provide stable fps this is good reason in my opinion.

Whether correct or not, Sadly human nature tends to be negative or pessimistic rather than being hopeful or pessimistic, as evidenced by the US election... Maybe in an natural self preservation reflex...
It's also natural for human to want destruction first before they realize what they really want ..

We dont get motion blur effects in VR, just the reprojection ghosting from 60fps native to 120fps.
Pro in theory should very easily go to native 90 or 120fps for the PSVR2 native display mode.
With PSSR it should be even easier to get those frames without reprojection. It will be awesome.

PSVR2 has been a huge miss for Sony and they have basically written it off.
I love your optimism, but it’s a bit misguided.
Every cent Sony (and thereby PD) invests in the platform going forward is very welcome but absolutely not guaranteed.
PSVR2 did not sell and that’s what it comes down to.

Probably because they dont release first party games on psvr2 with exception on launch premiere with gt7 and mediocre Horizon

Recently releasing a PC Adapter is not really abandoning the VR product / strategy in my book...

The price is more sweet spot now. The PRO can deliver the sweetspot experience.
PC adapter is released recently. Sales have apparently catched up.
Before I see the actual P&L and statement of Sony I'd say It has just begun to gain some traction.
Once VR PSSR is ready and impressive that alone will be another USP to turn on the marketing machine.
And if it's really good the reviews will be hyping the product vs high-end and 3x more expensive PC rigs.
Let's find out. The make or break moment has yet to come...

PSVR2 did not sell and that’s what it comes down to.
There is a good selection of games on it, and definitly gems among them.
The same could also be said about PSVR on PS4.
Though the amount of games that in my opinion seem "low effort/bad/cheap" is higher than the amount of games that I like.
And most games of those I like are simply VR enabled instead of VR exlusive.

The PC adapter is a hotfix for stock clearing purposes.

PSVR2 is a flop. There’s no way to sugarcoat it.
