Has the game even been patched since?
Either way - it’s the same. Varies a bit from car to car. Generally the benefits outweigh the problems by far imo.
It sure helps that I turn the hud off most of the time anyway.

You’ve inspired me to switch things up, I had the Pro since it’s release, I should be trying the new features. I’m going to turn the reprojection on and turn the hud off. I abandon the new feature on day 1 in favor of hud for daily racing. And hoping for a patch. But I don’t need hud, I’m not fast, nor do I have time for practice to improve. Why not just drive with the best quality VR.
I remember back in the summer I did a bunch of race c at spa. I think it was a 45 min, annd there was rain for sure. After the first 3 races I wanted the challenge of no hud. Rest of the week was a blast with no hud, pretty good results, got caught out a few times. I need to experience that again. Just driving hard, a tach, and mirrors. Perhaps the best overall collective week of races I’ve had. I put in hours that week.
Yet after that week I have been using hud every single race. Not sure why, I guess it’s a comfort thing in the daily races, but who cares I’m always in the 25k+ lol. So thanks Glam, I’m going back to driving!

Good afternoon all.
VR2 and surround sound. Looking back at previous posts I’m not optimistic that there’s a solution to this, but here goes anyway.
Previously had my rig set up with a very old Creative 2.1 pc speaker set plugged into the headphone jack of my monitor (iiyama g-master). Sound quality was reasonable but had been thinking of getting a surround sound set up for a while. Having researched how to get the audio from ps5 to sound system (not simple in itself, using an audio extractor) I bought a cheap(ish) Sony 5.1 soundbar with surround speakers and subwoofer. Set up it all sounded good, but then I noticed that as soon as I turn on the vr2, the subwoofer went silent and all I was getting was tinny stereo from the soundbar.
I fiddled about a bit and found that by plugging a 3.5mm jack into the monitor headphone jack (just the cable, nothing at the other end) I instantly got better sound quality as the subwoofer kicked back in. I have no explanation as to why this happened, but the improvement was significant.
However, there is still no sound from the surround speakers when the vr2 is turned on (as soon as you turn it off, there is). I can get the sound system to output via all speakers regardless of the signal it’s receiving by turning on ‘multi speaker’, but while it sounds better because the sound is coming from all around, it’s not the 5.1 I was hoping for (I assume it’s only stereo) and there won’t be the useful/immersive effects of hearing cars behind etc. If I’d researched vr2 and surround sound before buying the system I probably wouldn’t have bothered, but it simply didn’t occur to me that the ps5 would prevent the surround signal being sent to the amp.
Has anyone found a fix/workaround to get full 5.1 working with vr2?

I run the PS video & sound through an Onkyo TX-NR709 receiver to my surround sound set up. I don't have an actual sub-woofer, since the main pair have 10" woofers. I tried hooking my Buttkicker Gamer 2 into the sub-woofer channel back in '22/'23 and couldn't get it to work reliably unless the main volume was at uncomfortable levels. Haven't used the BK since. I did notice, after getting the VR2 at release, whenever the VR was powered up the receiver would automatically drop out of Dolby D mode to a lesser surround sound mode. As soon as the VR shuts down, the receiver auto switches back to Dolby D. I get full surround in either mode, the Dolby D is just more, emphatically surround, than the non Dolby D mode. Perhaps shutting off all sound output to the VR, from the Playstation settings, and in game, would prevent that switch and it may also help with your set up. I've not checked if this is even possible or not. I'm thinking the Playstation must split audio to the VR, since there is a headset port on it and, I'd bet, the vibration function on the VR is sent from audio signals from the PS.

I have Surround going through a receiver. It's a Yamaha Aventage RX-A880 (nice), and TV is a TCL 55R635 (kinda ok, kinda crap).
HDMI from PS5, then eARC for sound back to receiver. I use earbuds for VR but I still want sound for my bass shaker which I get from the subwoofer line out on receiver.
My problem is dealing with sound lag and low sub level when using VR with the VR earbuds. When I turn off VR headset the volume is louder on receiver, it's always been like that. I use the DTS preset in sound options in PS5, it has the least amount of audio latency with my setup. Linear PCM used to be the best, but after an update, DTS works best for me. Atmos sounds great but there's a terrible sound delay so I never use it.
And I don't know if you can turn off all audio to earbuds and still have normal audio sound through receiver, never tried it because I use the ear buds.
Some games won't allow any sound other than VR earbuds when they are on so GT7 is good in that way at least.
But if I want to I can take out my earbuds and crank the surround sound up and I can play like that, with little sound delay, but I have to turn up the volume more on the receiver. For my bass shakers and VR I crank the subwoofer level output to +6db, and crank gain knob on my bass shaker amp and it works.
Try turning off VR earbuds if possible, that might fix your problem, but not sure if possible.

@Dragonwhisky, I suspect the 'lesser surround mode' you get when the VR2 is on is similar to what I am getting, i.e. sound out of all speakers but not actually surround i.e. no spatial effects other than stereo. There really is a marked difference in the sound quality between VR2 off and VR2 on. With it off, there are clear spatial effects (i.e. forwards and back, not just left to right) even just sitting in a pre-race screen with the car driving around in the background.
When I was setting up, I tested this by turning off the amp's 'multi-speaker' function. With this off, it only sends sound to the speakers that it has a specific signal for. With the VR2 off, I got sound out of all speakers. With VR2 on, I go no sound from the surround speakers.
It's a shame but the sound quality (with multi-speaker on) is still better than my approximately 25 years old Creative PC speakers! I set up speaker stands last night so the surrounds are close to my ears, and the effect was reasonably immersive. Just a shame the Genesis G70 Gr4 doesn't have the best engine sound!
When the VR2 is on, you can't change the audio output in the PS5 settings. Weirdly, when the VR2 is on but not on your head, the output says AV system but it's definitely not 5.1. It's only when you put it on that it says VR2 headphones.
Maybe this will get amended in a future update, it would presumably be quite simple to leave the audio output options available with VR2 on. I have the Pulse elite headset too and that's great, but with it on I feel a little too closed-off and paranoid!

One thing to try might be a bluetooth dongle sending to a bluetooth connection on the reciever. I was able to get sound to the AV system doing this if the dongle looks like a headset to the PS, but my receiver’s codec was basic so don’t think I was getting full surround - testing was limited

I'm not going to be able to do any testing for a while. But I'm actually not sure if when I put my headset on and take my PSVR2 earbuds out, if I'm getting actual surround, but all my 7.1 speakers are working as well as the earbuds but speakers are at a lower volume unless I turn off goggles completely.
My Rx has settings that automatically fill out the rest of the speakers though. I'd have to do some testing to make sure I'm actually getting discrete 7.1 channels when using VR or if I'm getting stereo that my Rx (receiver) is maybe automatically expanding to 7.1.
So My rear channels may be just stereo channels expanded, but I have my Rx settings on "direct" which means they should be discrete channels. I'll have to do some listening tests to make sure, but that won't be for a while.
It could be PS5 itself doing that though, expanding a stereo signal into 7.1 before it even gets to the Rx when using VR earbuds. There's so many different sound setting on the TV, the PS5, and the Rx just in my own system, let alone what settings are involved in other peoples' setups, and how all those settings are configured. Things can get extremely complicated because all those setting can't affect each other.. But if the PS5 / GT7 is not putting out 5.1 or 7.1 discrete channels when VR earbuds are being used, then no one will ever get true surround effects no matter what the settings are. But the settings can still allow all 7.1 or 5.1 speaker channels to have sound coming out of them and some Rx's will even have settings to fake the surround with speaker timing and make it almost sound like surround.

I haven't personally done anything to mine, but I've heard nothing but good things about the Globular Cluster set of pads that replace the rubbery ones in the headset. I plan on getting them, it's just not a priority as I don't have issues with mine... at least for the first two hours or so, haha.
If you wear glasses there are prescription lenses that snap into it so you don't have to wear them while playing.
Other than headphones I don't know much else others may be doing to theirs. I use headphones plugged into my controller for audio, but it's only because the connection for the factory headphones never allowed the jack to seat properly, so the sound often cut out of one or the other ear. Should have sent it in, but I didn't want to wait months to get it back!
Still love it with GT7.

Put my globular cluster on today. What a difference. Holy crap. They should come from Sony with this FOR SURE. It's not even comparable how it felt before and after. Thank you good folks in here for that recommendation. It's changed the whole experience for me.
Also did the first time trial where I actually felt like I could drive again after getting the VR. Good things today in virtual land!!

When you are not wearing it, but looking at the lenses, as you would be when cleaning the lenses, they have a way of kind of reflecting light in a way that makes it look like there is a smudge, or a defect or scratch on the lense, when there isn't, it's just reflected light. Is this what you could be seeing?

I think I may know what's going on with the VR2 sound thing. Thanks to @BWX 's advice and guidance, I got my Buttkicker Gamer 2 up and running again, after 2 years of not using it, because, issues. I discovered something while getting things adjusted on my Onkyo Rx. My PC was sending stereo signal. The Rx sounded like crap unless I had the listening mode set to a PLII mode. And the BK wasn't getting any sub signal. Swapped the output on the PC to 5.1, wiggled a couple more things on the Rx and my BK went absolutely ape💩. Clip light pretty much steady on. Tuned the BK to stop that action. Now, I can't get the PC source listening mode to even touch a PLII mode.
All this leads me to think, when VR2 is powered up, the PS swaps the audio to stereo output, since PLII mode is what my Rx drops into when the VR is running. How very disappointing. Really hope Sony pushes a patch to remedy that. Kinda' kills the point of having a decent sound system to rock along with VR, just to get it hamstrung.
Now I know why it sounded better in that mode than when I forced it into a non PLII mode. The Rx was translating the stereo signal to 5.1 surround and now, since its getting 5.1 signal, it doesn't have to logically force signal to the surrounds and won't let it go into that mode.Dolby Pro Logic II

That's awesome man, very glad I could help! And what you're saying is leading me to believe that PS5 and GT7 just drops the surround signal to stereo if VR goggles are on which does suck for people who want to use actual full 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound with VR in GT7.
There might be some work-arounds to find, but it might be a limitation within the hardware of the PS5 unfortunately. Maybe somebody somewhere has already figured it out.

The 3D sound through headphones when using the PSVR2 (via the headset or the controller) is truly awesome. Having just such a set-up, I can't personally see the point of having a surround-sound speaker system, but each to their own. That aside though, the 3D 'tech' relies on a carefully modified stereo signal, which is why it works well with most stereo headphones. So this is just a wild postulation, but perhaps PD expect most PSVR2 users to use the '3D sound' (i.e. normal) earbuds provided, or headphones, and that just maybe they can't combine the 3D-sound tech with a surround sound spread of 5.1 or 7.1 audio outputs. In short, I'm guessing that one can have surround-sound or 3D-sound but not both, so PD have taken the logical step of switching to 3D-sound when the PSVR2 is in use.

Unfortunately, that makes Sony/PD sense. My preferred audio, even with or without VR is my stereo. Only run with the headset, plugged in to DS, when it's late, so as not to disturb the better half, or the series I'm racing in requires voice comms. The sound reproduction, especially with VR turned off, is yards better.
