This sounds extremely outrageous of a question, but is it possible for exhausts to generate thrust?
Blow exhaust gases to create thrust? In theory yes, but in practice virtually impossible.

Hello all, thought I'd pop in. Long time motorsport engineering analyst and enthusiast, currently planning my own G56 design alongside a fellow young engineer. Keen to add whatever I can to this project.

Yes. Measurable force is a different question, most likely not a useful amount.

I am perfectly okay with this.
Because who needs style when you can go 200mph with 300hp.

I honestly think purely aero shaped cars look nice, but people here seem to enjoy providing sketches and coming up with visual themes.

Thinking over the idea of a low power 200 mph car, I've come up with a sort of starting point that's basically three airfoils. One main horizontal airfoil for the body, and two vertical airfoils at the side to house wheels and passengers. Not practical at all, but we could try to incorporate the idea into a working car.

It actually may not even have to be so radically looking, GM in the 80's I think had some super low cd concepts (in the .2 CD range), but these were commuter cars. Compared to a performance car they have lower cooling needs, smaller tires, and a weaker chassis.
 
Sounds like a good idea ! Remembering I posted the following concept previously, I think this Suzuki S-ride is somewhere a starting point for the idea @Exorcet had described.

For example, the S-Ride had small/narrow tires, A kinda jet-fighter cockpit with the passenger is sitting behind instead besides the driver. Thinking this car more redicilously, with bigger wheels, wheel housings and a drivers view lower than the top of the wheelhousing.

Actually, my idea was sort of like that but upside down. The reason for that is downforce. It's well known that high performance cars tend to have a flat bottom with low ground clearance, but this isn't necessarily an aerodynamic optimum. It comes about because of the need to lower center of gravity and because most race series try to limit downforce numbers.

The need to keep the car low while still housing a driver creates a curved upper surface, which lowers pressure and creates lift (blue in the image below)

If you turn the car upside down, the lift becomes downforce. The problem is, as I've said already, this will mess with weight balance and packaging. I think a solution could be a slightly raised car with a center tunnel. Something vaguely similar to a solar car, but lower and less thin

The idea would be to drive air under the car between the side mounted airfoils (which would contain wheels and possible motors) where it would see very high acceleration and thus create downforce. On the top of the car, there would be little curvature and low lift.

All of that said though, a low and flat car like the one in the sketch is another way of approaching the problem. Determining which path is better to follow will take some analysis and also depend on other factors like what kind of engine the car would use, the space desired for occupants, etc.
 
Two words: Rake angle. I've been playing with it a lot.

No clue. We originally had one set in stone before, but there were many complications, and therefore we ended up going back to square 1.

Sounds like it could be a road-going Catamaran, or at least that's what i'm imagining. Could be really cool looking. 👍

Thought i'd give it a colour change. Looks a bit more boat like now. The driver and passenger are seated in a laid back position in the pontoons, battery packs are underneath the occupants.

Heres an old sketch from a few years ago. Single seater
400-500 kg
400 horsepower
Carbon fiber monoquocue (spelling)
Turbocharged flat 4


Because the car is tightly packaged, it will be more aerodynamic

Probably would need to add a front wing to keep air flow from getting disturbed from front tires but I think the small shape and profile of the car is simply attractive.

Nessy, can you make a tutorial how you are drawing these amazing designs? Do you use a drawing tablet or just a mouse? Once I'd the age driving my Puch Maxi, I was drawing these kind of images too, same perspective, but in the digital world I can'tdraw anymore like that. I miss the steady freehand position and sketch over and over again (allthough, I don't miss the loads of paper-waste)

Once I'd the age driving my Puch Maxi, I was drawing these kind of images too, same perspective, but in the digital world I can'tdraw anymore like that. I use a 'Wacom Intuous 4' drawing tablet. It initially takes a bit of getting use to, as you're drawing onto a blank surface (like using a mouse). It's hard to beat the hands-on feel of pencil and paper, but it's not far from it, once you get use to it.
'Wacom' do actually do tablets that you can draw straight onto the screen, but they're quite expensive (to pricey for me). All the professional car designers (and most if not all design students) use them.

I used to get through so much paper before drawing in Photoshop with a tablet, (i use an old version of Photoshop 7). I'm really glad i made the switch as it probably would have taken me several marker pens, masking tape, chalk pastels and at least 10 pieces of paper to do the drawings i posted above^.
I do all my drawings in layers on photoshop, and adjust the opacity of each layer, (essentially being able to trace over what iv'e done). It's like using tracing/layout paper.
 
Oh man... @Nessy I remember a quoute of you you won't make work of this hobby because it will kill your hobby in the same time.. The fun about drawing would fly by the minute.. But man you've such a great talent.. And not especially for car design, but turning ideas into drawings, storyboards or something.. your talent is so extraordinary !!

I know you'll say it's too kind and stuff like that, from my point of view it's just the truth and hopefully you could do sometime with it.. Anything that fits you and make you happy makes me happy! Just between attic-artists ;)
